  • Jeff Bezos says he's proud of working conditions at Amazon. Workers say they're surveilled, treated like robots, and forced to work in a grueling and unsafe environment. Now these warehouse workers in Alabama are organizing to demand change.

@@yahawahschampion8790 Past union organizing has accomplished many things that still benefit workers today: the 8 hour workday, 40 hour work week, weekends, the end of child labor, unemployment benefits, and workers' compensation laws. The struggle might be long and initial battles might be lost, but history shows that when labor movements persist, the results make life better for workers.

I had a friend from community college that was transferring to George Mason University and during the summer between transfers, he worked at a Amazon warehouse. From what he told me, the working conditions are absolutely horrible and there are almost no safety standards. It was so strict, you could get pay deducted for just going to the bathroom or drinking water during a work shift. The worst part is if you clocked out late, aka worked longer than you should have which is very common in blue collar work, they would punish you by writing you up to management and sometimes docking pay as well. Anyways, he was working a shift near the 4th of july and a bunch of boxes that weren't stacked very well fell on his head. At first it seemed like it was nothing, just a small bump but later that year when he went to gmu, he had trouble concentrating in class and would at times even black out occasionally. He finally went to the doctor and was told he suffered some sort of concussion. GMU would not accept his accommodations for this injury and Amazon refused to acknowledge any responsibility for the incident. What a fair system we all live under.

I never, in all my years of working, heard the complaint that it isn’t fair to have to stand all day when that is the only way to do the job. Factory work is tough and if one does not like it, then leave. I had a factory job for four hours where I was pressured to fold 1000 envelopes per hour and could pee only when a light was turned on. At lunch, I asked some of the employees if they like their jobs. Most said yes because the routine and constant grind was relaxing. Others said no but they did not know how to quit. I said I didn’t like the work and suggested to all the unhappy workers to watch me and take a lesson on how to quit. I had no money except what this job would provide, but I knew I was not going to fold another envelope. People watched and I went back five days later to pick up my check. I got another job.

Worst god damn job I've ever worked in my life, currently locked in a WSIB battle with them, they had me do a form 8 cause I got injured at work and when they wouldn't give me the time off it got much worse. Finally the doctor gave me the go ahead to take the time and let me tell you they weren't happy about it. They tried to lure me back in to void my WSIB case, told me that I was wrong to go to the doctor for my injury, mind you he rescinded this statement immediately but it was said none the less. Now that I'm almost healed and close to going back and my WSIB case has moved forward they're claiming that I had a previous injury and that I'm lying to them about the cause of it. Mind you I worked there for 2 months without complaint of any injury at all. Amazon is a disgusting despicable company and I hope it burns. Jokes on them cause I have all the proof of everything, 2 doctors and my physiotherapist backing me, and now I'm going to out them for all the head games they tried to play and the lack of health and safety between leadership and process assistants. Had 1 good PA that tried to help me immediately when he learned of my injury, that's it, everyone else pretty well ignored it until it became a company issue.

You have the Option to LEAVE ,find another job. Don’t wait for someone to change their Business Model to adapt to fair treatment. No matter how unfair the practices of Amazon may seem. When we make the decision to work for someone else unfortunately we can’t tell them how to run their business , sometimes it’s better to create our own business so we can run it how we like,In the meantime LEAVE Amazon if you are being humiliated, under valued and disrespected. Know your Worth know your Value but most of All know that you are Worthy to be respected on these jobs and if not go where you are respected or step out on Faith and create/build your own wealth.
