Notes to point out:
1. In Denny Crum’s last Elite 8 appearance as coach (1997), Louisville lost on that floor to top seed North Carolina (UNC then lost to Arizona in the FF).
2. To some degree, the Zion-led Duke team’s Elite 8 run in 2019 mirrored Louisville here (both had to survive a one possession game the first weekend and faced an ACC foe in the S16 before falling in the E8 to the Spartans).
3. During the regular season, Louisville lost on that floor to Syracuse where Rick Pitino has noted history as an assistant to Jim Boeheim (UVA who won at Syracuse lost in the Round of 32 to the Spartans a week before this game).
4. Rick Pitino as a 4 seed (6 times as Louisville coach) was 2-0 against 7 seeds in the Elite 8 before this game.
