I remember the night my Aunt died and we watched Channel 4 to the bitter end. It still makes me emotional to hear the boom at the end of ident and takes me back to July 1995 in a heartbeat.
They'd also be back on the air 2 and a bit hours later making it rather pointless to shut down for such a short amount of time. C4 had stopped closing down by the end of 1996. TBF though both BBC1 and 2 could often go on almost as late at this point too and both would stop doing 'real' closedowns (as in the transmitter feed is actually cut rather than airing filler) in 1997, and ITV had already been running 24/7 for some years. This sort of era in the mid-late 90's was the end of the road for closedowns.
3.40am closedown, followed by quick TV equipment maintenance works by the little minions and elves living within the Channel 4 broadcasting centre ehhh?

Channel 4 Continuity & Closedown On Friday 7th/Saturday 8th June 1996.
Don’t know why, but 1:10 gives me the creeps and remember it did as a child too!
Cold Lazarus - Unusual to advertise something on Channel 4 and also advertise it's showing on BBC one the day after.
Dennis' idea. They wouldn't have done it for anyone else.
I remember seeing this promo on an easter holiday in the Lake District in 1996
It was recorded on Friday 7th June 1996.
Time on the clock: 03:41 am?! That is late. BBC1 and BBC2 did not close as late as that.
