Downfall/Der Untergang. - Deleted Scene. - Krebs negotiates with Soviets. (Original translations.)

  • General Krebs of the withering Wehrmacht tries a last ditch attempt at negotiating with Soviet general Chuikov.
    One of my favorite scenes in cinema, combining elements of humor, consequence and pragmatism into one, well thought out entity. A real shame it wasn't included in the final cut.
    Unfortunately, 12 year olds armed with editing software have turned this brilliant scene (as much as the entire movie Downfall) into their nonsensically translated meme abominations. I figured there might be people who genuinely want to know what is happening here instead of trying to not die from cringe.

      If you search the Wikipedia, even the real Chuikov lied about knowing these facts. In reality he wasnt even aware of an underground bunker complex, and he lied that he knew about him. I wouldnt like that when somebody says "typical Russian", but Chuikov lied as shown in the movie in real life too.

      @And The Salt Spreads Argentina, and some other south american countries, is where some high-rank Nazis actually fled to. Some of them were captured and killed by the Mossad (Israeli Secet Service) but some were never found.
      Also they burned Hitlers body immediately after his death and nobody could tell if the burned remains is actually Hitler. Dont know if any of this realy happend or not, it is just why the modern myth of Hitler living in Argentina was created.

    • @charles_0017
      @charles_0017 2 года назад +12

      @And The Salt Spreads it's because many senior German officers guilty of war crimes (mainly former SS and police) fled to Argentina in the South America after the war, they knew that they would get a life sentence in prison if not executed for their war crimes if they were caught.
      Argentina was a pro Axis nation and was sympathetic towards the Nazi's cause, but never joined the war. As a result they allowed these former high ranking German officials, generals and officers to take refuge in the country. Many of them were never caught, either because no one cared anymore or that they were hard to find. After all why would you spend all your effort trying to find some war criminal that may or may not live in Argentina when your own country is devastated and needs rebuilding?

      That is a misunderstanding. The atomic bomb was the task of the GRU, specifically the Soviet residence in Ottawa.
      The atomic bomb was of military interest and it was the military intelligence responsible for investigating it.
      The Manhattan project was discovered, at least its objective and main staff, in 42.
      The greatest progress in stealing American atomic technology was made after the war; the heads of the GRU who did it were Fyodor Kuznetsov and Nikolai Trusov.

      +Clay Burkhardt the Germans where way worse, you think they didn't rape en masse in Russia aswell? The difference it wasnt punishable to rape a Russian/slavic woman if you where a German soldier. On the other hand a lot of Russian soldiers got prosecuted by the Soviet government.

    • @heno02
      @heno02 7 лет назад +152

      +Clay Burkhardt The wiki article clearly state that Soviet soldiers caught raping civilians were usually punished. While saying that rapes where allowed within the wehrmacht. You said "Germans were not allowed to have sex with non Aryan peoples", which I have documented is clearly false. Which incidentally also shows the laughable irony of you accusing me of lies. Only one case of rape was ever (mildly) punished during the entire war on the German side.
      Maybe you should get your head out of your ass and realize the Germans where no saints. Ever heard of Generalplan Ost? They declared war on the USSR with the explicit goal of conquest, mass genocide and extermination of the majority of civilian population. I haven't claimed the Russians didn't commit mass rape, but out of the two evils there is objectively one less evil here.
      And your apologia towards the nazi fuckwitts that started this war with statements that factually doesn't match up with history (as I have documented) makes it very easy to confuse you with the rest of the rabble (holocaust deniers, wehraboos that wank over everything ww2 german related etc).
      Also I'll include some more passages from the article:
      -In the Soviet Union women were kidnapped by German forces for prostitution; one report by the International Military Tribunal stated that "in the city of Smolensk the German Command opened a brothel for officers in one of the hotels into which hundreds of women and girls were driven; they were mercilessly dragged down the street by their arms and hair."
      -Other sources estimate that rapes of Soviet women by the Wehrmacht range up to 10,000,000 incidents, with between 750,000 and 1,000,000 children being born as a result
      And here you are, trying to paint a picture as if the Soviets where the only one carrying out rapes. Again. Who's spreading bullshit and lies?

    For anyone who might not know, General Vasily Chuikov was the commander of the 62nd Army and the man who held Stalingrad from the Germans in 1942. His army was renamed as the 8th Guards Army and spent the rest of the war sweeping through Poland where he liberated the Majdanek concentration camp and was later given the task of being the first military force to assault Berlin in 1945.
    I bring this up because that background lends even more weight to his refusal to accept nothing less than Germany's unconditional surrender.

    This is such an amazingly coreographed scene. The thing that always strikes me is the calm professionalism that Chuikov is able to muster in the face of such stupendously pathetic attempts to barter a peace deal. It's honestly perplexing the audacity that Krebs walked into that room with such a proposition. The way Krebs immediately subverts responsibility for his audacious proposition upon seeing the disgust upon Chuikovs face and hearing his reply, lamenting that it was merely an order he was given to deliver... The response Chuikov then gives is such a fantastic part of this scene. Basically stating if you're just a little messenger boy, then you should fack off back to your little bunker and tell who ever is in charge what an utterly pathetic idea that is! The idea of a man like Krebs, who's at this point basically 24 hours from ending up swinging from a tree, to try and barter 😅 I do wonder what hilarious conversations ensued once the Germans had left that room! 😂 Both actors who play Krebs and Chuikov fucking nail this scene and I love it!
