As someone that makes this stuff from scratch regularly I have to say I'm totally blown away about the New Wire Marine products you just got. Absolutely phenomenal how it's all complete and done for you. It looks as good as it can get!!!

Yeah, they do a great job! They sent me a bunch of video from them making our battery box thing, which is sick and you'll really be blown away once we get that in, waiting for a hinge that should get here tomorrow :) but yeah, I'm thinking about putting together a video about that process, it's crazy how the machine just blows through a sheet and it comes out perfect lol

I've installed thousands of acrylic windows in Fl rooms over the past 30yrs, best thing I've found is just plain water with a table spoon of fabric softener and 100% cotton ( cloth baby diaper). I've been back to houses yrs later and glass looks brand new still.

Just want to share what I think is the best way to connect wires. Buy non insulated crimp connectors, slide on marine grade heat shrink, and crimp your connection. Now heat your marine heat shrink [ you can see the glue melt to the wire] and now you have a small water tight connection that also helps protect from wire bending over and over and breaking. Works for butt connections and terminal ends.

I think you did a great job on this, couple of things I would have done differently is put the compass dead center with the wheel, then the cup holders on the outsides, rather than having to reach across everything. Just a personal preference thing.
When drilling plastics that can chip out, clamping a block of hard wood each side that has been pre-drilled will do wonders for guiding the bit through and preventing the chips.

Plexiglass specific drill bits are pretty inexpensive on Amazon and do a much better job than standard drill bits. My second choice is a step bit. They don't snag and chip the acrylic. The 3 bit sets from Harbor Freight are a great deal and work well on fiberglass, too, especially for enlarging existing holes as they self- center. Either way, better drill bits are a lot cheaper than buying new Plexiglass again. I hope this is helpful.

@@BornAgainBoating Everything in boating is a compromise. So I can't fault your choice but that said, you have a GPS so why do you need a compass. Worried the GPS will fail, electronics are incredibly reliable but if you are seriously concerned, why not just put in a USB port to charge the phone. Why do you need your phone mounted on the dash? The surface area is the same no matter how you arrange things, so it becomes a matter of preference. I'd have chosen less visibility for my phone to keep the compass accurate. Actually, I'd have mounted a USB port elsewhere and kept my phone off the dash. But I'm a boomer and care less about my phone.

I'm only an amateur, but I think you would have been happier with the end product - and possibly even more efficiently done - if you had filled in the old, sloppy holes in the console, by glassing in new marine plywood - or a synthetic - then finishing both inside and out with a one part polyurethane paint on sanded fiberglass - then cutting new, more accurate holes. The result would have been the look of an entirely new console, inside and out.
