My Traditional Bowhunting Setup for ALONE Season 8

- By now you might have heard that I was a contestant for the the History Chanel's reality survival show, ALONE Season 8. If you're not familiar with it, ALONE is as real as it gets. Ten participants, with just 10 basic pieces of survival gear, are dropped alone in a remote wilderness to self document their journey as they try to survive as long as possible or until they're the last one standing. In this video I'll be going over my traditional bowhunting setup for ALONE Season 8.
I've been building and hunting with primitive bows and traditional archery gear for over 20 years so when it came time to choose my 10 survival items, a longbow or recurve was at the top of my list. Since I'd depend so heavily on my bow I wanted something simple, reliable, and effective. What I settled on was a semi primitive osage selfbow with reflexed tips, right on the tipping point between a longbow and recurve. The bow I took is 64" overall length and draws around 60#@29". That draw weight is a little heavier than I typically shoot but I wanted to be ready for muskox and moose if the opportunity arose. You'll see a lot of this bow as I carried it everywhere I went, not wanting to miss any opportunity at big game or small.

Haha I caught that one arrow comment ;). True though! I chose the quiver for the extra material it would provide (ski bindings etc from that quiver leather..) but definitely not worth trading a second shot for if it goes down like that! Nice bow, look forward to seeing it in action 🤝

This just helped my confidence a lot. I just got my first bow. A Field and Stream editor gave it to a leather specialist here in Maine, who then passed it to my dad, who just passed it along to me for Christmas. It's a at least a 55lb (need to get it officially tested) draw self made bow with bamboo and an unknown core. I'm not bad with it, but I'm much better with my wifes Samerick Sage. Didn't realize the modern laminate bows were easier too shot. The leather guy who passed it to my dad is making an arrow rest for me, first day shooting it I had some blood from the fletching flying across my hand but I was having to much fun to care. Hoping the arrow rest and practice will one day make me as good as you!

I live here in BC. Our climate, and geography changes alot throughout our beautiful province. But with that being said, in a survival situation it is deadly. Many people go into the woods or deserts and never come back. I'm excited to watch this season and see how you, and the others fair. Grizzly country here (like to the east of smithers and abroad), happens to be the only places here that even myself would stay out of. Its rugged and dangerous.

No way ! I've been following your channel for a while, since I have been getting more into traditional archery. I've seen every season of alone. I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but Im an avid outdoorsman so it caught my attention.
It's really the only show I'd go out of my way to watch.
