Thx dude, This has been the only one video I could find about how to get seeds from stevia flowers. It helps me a lot. I'm from Argentina it's very close to Paraguay. Ppl from Paraguay have been using this sweet plant for hundreds of years and is becoming very popular these days. Specifically between ppl that suffer from diabetes.

stevia is one of my favorite things I've got growin' on! Every stevia I've tried from the store has terrible after taste but the stevia i'm growing tastes the same afterwards as it does throughout - SWEET and delicious.

I got 6 stevia plants for like 3$ today. Grew a couple from seed also, 3 out of 10ish made it. I was planning to use it for extract, had never even tried the leaves themselves. So i went and picked a leave an poped it in my mouth. all I have to say is WOW!!!

Here in Savannah GA, zone 8B-9, we can grow Stevia as a perennial. It will die back to the crown in winter, but comes back in spring.

Glad I found this vid. I saved so many of the lil seed pods and was hoping someone would address if I had to pick the seed away from the lil dandelion part or just plant them like that I wasn't sure. I saved a bunch. Grew a huge stevia in my bathroom window over winter with lights

It does ok in AP... I had one in my system this year but if it was me I would plant more crops that are more useful that will last you longer like cucumber squash ect... I moved all mine to a 55 gallon drum cut in a quarter they do very well with rabbit poop mixed into compost... Hope this helps... This information is coming from zone 7b of SC...

When doing the tip cuttings, where should you cut? below a node? My very short plant (about 1 foot high) is always covered with white flowers. Is it ok if the cutting has flowers ... or should there be more leaves? Thanks.
BTW John, your singing was funny!

You can cut them any time. I cut my back to encourage bushing out and I boil the tips.
I will try and remember, tho, to let at least one stalk grow to seed.

90% of the people i asked said the best way to propagate stevia is by cuttings, that way they dont loose the characteristics of the mother plant as along as you make sure that the mother plant has very good characteristics but my question is, until when or is there any limit as to when will these cuttings be good? i mean after you've grown from cuttings, can you still get cuttings from the new plant to make way for the next generation?

John , can you do a video about veggies you get at the store that are organic that you can chop off a part and put back into the earth to regrow again? That would be great. I have done this with pineapple and I know you can do with celery and green onions too. It's really cool and many not know about this.

  • @paraguayhero

stevia or ka'a he'e in Guarani (sweet grass) is of Paraguay (scientific name "Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni" after its discoverers Ovid Rebaudi Paraguayan scientists and Moises Bertoni Swiss-born but naturalized Paraguayan 1885 ... yet it is found wild in the northeast of the country across the border with Brazil, hence leaving many to say that it is also home bras, which is not true, only that these were brought to Brazil from Paraguay for cultivation, in Paraguay there are over 300 varieties

Hi!....I really enjoyed your video.I just recently watched a video on this chemical company that is monopolizing the seed industry. Which is making farmers dependant on buying their genetically altered chemically sprayed DNA spliced seeds! Putting these chemicals in the earth and not to mention infusing the DNA of other living things into the DNA of these plants for live stock/ human consumption,is not good for any of us, how is this affecting us?It sickens me to see this happening.I had no idea

Yikes - bitter aftertaste if you harvest or eat the leaves after the blooms open - yuck! Below 46 degrees or so, not good. Plus, they need full sun. They're zone 9 plants. The non-matured would be a temperature thang.

Stevia has been associated with infertility and endocrine disruption, according to reports. Watch this truthstreammedia video: www.activistpost.com/2015/05/stevia-hailed-as-anti-fertility-agent.html

    • @NicoleRetuta
      @NicoleRetuta 8 лет назад +2

blisflvolcanodweller No one has been able to replicate the original research, which was based on supported assumptions. ; in all the studies since., the rats always get pregnant. Akashi and Yokoma did a study and found no differences in the control group, no health problems or differences in fertility. Mori et al (1981) did a similar study and found "There were no significant differences in the averages of conception, in the variation in the body weight, in the ingestion and in the weight of the organs. Hystological exams of the sexual organs of the animals , even of those which in the average did not induce conception, did not reveal changes which could be attributed to the test. The fetuses also did not show abnormalities. Several other studies got the same results. Stevia is not anti-fertility and produces no harmful effects.
Several other studies since have found exactly the same results. Stevia has proved health benefits.
Science has a wonderful way of exposing and correcting shoddy research and false assumptions.

Eileen Dwyer It is more righteous. If you want to support local business and jobs. Spreading the wealth to smaller owners vs to a few handfull who most likely is not a part of making America richer.
