What Happened to Reboot Royale and Atlas OG Battle Royale?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 июл 2023
- Chapter 1 remakes were heralded as "the future of Fortnite" when UEFN launched in March, but the reality turned out to be quite different.
So, what happened to Atlas OG Battle Royale and Reboot Royale? I wrote a retrospective deep dive about both.

are you Team Atlas or Team Reboot?
reboot
I like both
Reboot
Atlas
Reboot was a little more nostalgic, atlas people don't wear og skins or play og a little so Reboot on top
Reboot Royale was so good. I wish people would have kept playing. The guy who made it was very transparent and talked with the players a lot. He really wanted what’s best for the players.
blame epic for not promoting it unlike atlas' map
When epic will add mini maps and memory issues it'll be way more players playing
@@ykwis7991 don't forget custom weapons and vehicles so they can recreate old loot pools
@@Professionalfailure that's small things though, as long as they got the basics like
100 players, mini map and etc that is all they need to get more people playing right now, and they will add those things in the long run as well as they should have monthly updates, solo, duo, trios and different game modes to keep the player base entertained.
@@ykwis7991 yeah, it'll be good being able to hit 300 headshots again with a green pump haha
The main fault of their downfall was epic games themselves.
Yeah, but the "future of fortnite" advertising they did for their map is also to blame
No…. People wanted this back but look nobody plays it it was the memories not the chapter 1……..l.l
I’m talking about how epic games took away their monetization, clouds, and memory.
@@PhantomFnc oh oh my bad
@@PhantomFncI wonder why it's doing good again back at 1k
Atlas and Reboot failing lies heavily on Epic Games imo, because holy, UEFN can sometimes be an absolute pain to work with, random freezes for seemingly no reason that have me force closing UEFN via TM, UI elements Epic Games have added themselves that just won't function, like the top center scoring system (the one used in the Domination map Epic released to show the capabilities of UEFN) that just doesn't work on a Team vs Team map i'm working on and there's absolutely no logical reason for it to be the case.
Agreed, Epic are *infuriatingly* stingy with use of old content that isn't even collab-based.
Edit: One example is blacklisting the Athena TODM completely despite there being no harm in using it.
@@MasterBroNetwork It's just insanely annoying because the top center scoring system is a Creative feature.
You can turn it on in island settings and make great use of it in combination with Capture Points but it just doesn't work in some of my maps.
The map in question besides a few buildings, small details and the decision on whether i want to allow people to make their own classes or make alot of preset ones is done, all i'd need is to request a Creator Code so i can upload it but that all is now on halt because of the random shit that just breaks.
If Epic continues to want low effort UEFN maps then they need to continue to keep this shit up.
Idk how they think people are gonna be able to make whole ass games in UEFN in a year but i expect those games to be completely broken after each update.
I mean, UEFN is basically just a slightly watered down version of the actual Unreal Engine. I've heard that actual game engines are just as fussy and random about when they want to break or glitch out or whatever. The fact that Fortnite is a complex multiplayer game probably doesn't help either.
Can you tell the map code when ita ready
Unreal Engine can be an absolute pain to work with in general
Its pretty unfortunate and extremely unfair how Atlas only became the more popular and more played one because they rushed theirs out first and it came out horrible while the Reboot team took more time with theirs, it came out a lot better (still not perfect) but people didnt play it more than the Atlas one because Atlas is the one that came out first. Kids just continued playing the one that came first without even knowing that the other one was way better and had more care put into it.
Not exactly, I never knew reboot existed until rn, I was literally playing atlas 3 hours ago
@@kento_suijinyou just said not exactly and then proved his point what

The main problem with UEFN is the lack of support from epic who still haven't addressed the memory issue.

i feel like the lack of UEFN info before its release gave everyone higher expectations than what is currently possible., which lead to the downfall of both OG map remakes, not to mention that there are definitely not as many people that worked on either one, which lead to the numerous amount of bugs
High expectations absolutely did contribute to the overall disappointment
I feel like this is sort of like a Fracture situation where the info WAS there about what to expect (like how Epic already explained Fracture was a SOCIAL Event, not a LIVE Event, different priorities in the experience). Similiarly, Epic stated that UEFN was launching in BETA, so it's still rather unfinished in features and bugs and whatnot. Plus, after several years of content creators talking about Copyright (both on social medias and in Fortnite), you'd think people would know about it...

And then epic just did it themselves
The funny thing is that when season OG released there was still thousands of players on atlas OG royale

Epic knew what they were doing messing with the creators. especially since the OG map comes back in 2 days they knew if they let the creators make a high quality repilica people wouldnt have been as hyped as they are for the real OG map. sad but oh well
This is why Epic needs to make a official but seperate Fortnite Classic that rotates between all 10 season on the C1 island. As if it just kept going and looping endlessly. Obviously, it can't let people get the battlepasses from back then. But they could let us link our accounts to it so that we can still use all of our skins AND get the same amount of match exp as regular Fortnite or progress toward challenges if the island has whatever is needed to complete it. So that means if you have a challenge that requires something like "kills with an MK7 or combat smg", you can't do it in Fortnite Classic because it wasn't featured in any of C1's seasons. But if it's something like "Kills with shotguns" then you can do it in Classic if you want.
For those who would think it would get boring and repetitive, keep in mind that not all post C1 seasons hit their mark as we saw with C2S6. If players get unhappy enough but still want to play Fortnite, they probably won't care. Fortnite Classic could be something for players to fall back on if they don't like the current season. It would essentially be the Teen Nick of Fortnite and could give players something to escape to if the current season has bugs or content they just don't like. Meanwhile, people can always count on Classic to have their back with the exact same weapons, items, and POIs as it did back in the day for whatever season is in rotation. In PRE-NERF condition in fact! Yep, that's right. All guns that got nerfed throughout those seasons would have their stats reverted to when they were at their strongest. So that people, especially casuals and OGs alike, can once again enjoy those things in their prime as they once were.
@916gio Fortnite Classic's seasons would be automated on a loop and have it its own seperate servers. Why would they make it share the same servers regular Fortnite? Battlepass wise, all Classic would do is give you an alternate way to grind exp and any quests you have for the newest season in the regular Fortnite. As well as still equip any skins you've collected including ones that came out after chapter 1 to sweeten the deal. The reason this would make sense in Epic's perspective is because let's say a someone likes the new battlepass but hates the new season's gameplay regarding things like weapons and vehicles or POI changes. Rather than have the current season's gameplay turn them away because they don't want to play the game if it feels like a chore to them, Fortnite classic would offer an alternative way to grind that new battlepass. The un-nerfed weapons would especially promote more casual gameplay. Which therefore means Classic would entice more players to still purchase the latest season. Without feeling pressured to play something they don't like just to grind for the skin they wanted. Which meams more money for Epic.
Edit: I should also add that I AM one of those customers who have been turned away from buying battle passes due to not wanting to play the current season. If the new island and weapons are not going to be fun for me, then I start measuring and weighing the battlepass itself to consider if it's REALLY worth torturing myself over. Which then causes me to be far more judgemental of each battlepass. Even if I thought some of them looked pretty "okay." Epic would still NEED one hell of a masterpiece of a skin just to compensate for the island I hate so much. Which I have not seen in a long time. Crossovers will get them absolutely nowhere with me. But again, Fortnite Classic would get me to settle for those "okay" skins and still purchase the battlepass maybe if I can play on one of the old season versions of the C1 island.

If you want to play things like this, you can play either project ERA or project NOVA, both of which are extremely faithful recreations of og fortnite, that arent in creative 2.0, but seperate games, which means that it can be more faithful. I recently started playing project era and it has been extremely fun.
Creative 2.0 has been underwhelming and it's because Epic put restrictions on what you can create. I get putting restrictions on other video game maps people make as they don't wanna get sued by other gaming companies, but to not allow people to make other chapter maps is stupid. I was looking forward to going back to the chapter 2 map only to then learn Epic put restrictions on recreating the map. Nobody has been creating original maps that look as awesome as the maps Epic showed in the trailer for creative 2.0. I went from being super excited when I first heard about creative 2.0 coming to now giving zero f**ks about it.
is it possible to use UEFN to make a standalone game(not to be uploaded in Fortnite servers?)
@@MangaGamified I don't think so, I'm not aware of anyway.
They got destroyed after the new season OG 😂😂
I think it’s a combination of Epic games AND in general the way the game works.
Both maps look great and did an amazing job.
But the pace of the old style of playing isn’t there anymore
We have A LOT of brand new mechanics and weapons that came out since Chapter 1
Sliding, Sprinting, Mantling, etc.
Different guns, cosmetics, Mythics, it’s a lot.
Reboot Royale and atlas was fun to play! Like really felt good playing those games.
We’re just in a different time now and you can make the map as much as you want to, but you can’t recreate those same memories or keep up with the progress the game has made since chapter 1.
I have fun with slow-paced matches. Not everyone likes mobility.
@@ZinnYT which is true, but it’s not just the speed of the game, it’s how much the game has evolved. Graphics, locations, all that. Like chapter 1 map looks and feels like a creative map now because of how updated the game has been.
dawg ur chatting abt the players and cosmetics we talking bout the game itself, we can disable the mantling and wtv, we can choose the guns, everything ur saying creative maps have already debunked, ur jus repeating the “everyone got better at the game and if we bring it og fortnite back the memories are already gone”
@@wrlds.collideThey're literally not wrong. There's only so long replaying nostalgia can actually keep people when it's at the core the same game
I think nostalgia is too big of an issue tbh, bringing back the chapter 1 mechanics and gameplay would honestly make it boring. For example, the map is boring, it's mostly the same biome for the first couple seasons of the chapter and it's just not fun to navigate with a lack of mobility and sprinting. Now take a look at chapter 4 (i'm not the biggest fan of this map tbf but i'll get to that) it has more biomes, interesting POI's and better mobility. OH MY GOD THE MOBILITY! Ever since chapter 4 they have been on a roll with the mobility items, the hammer, the blade, the return of the spider mythics and grapple glove and just recently the rocket ram. The new season btw mind you has caused an all time high in players at once due to the fact that IT IS ACTUALLY GOOD. chapter 1 doesn't compare to the new mechanics of any of the other 3 i'm not gonna lie, if we stayed on that map everyone would have gotten as good as they are now and the game would have gotten stale with no new mechanics and weapons made to help players with a brain instead of spam building the seconds they hear a branch snap. Oh as i said i was gonna get to, the new map wqas bad until the new season, the jungle was an awful biome with the POI's actually being good tbf and mega city is unbreakable which is kind of annoying. At this point though, it's just minor nitpicks and they have added some really good POI's this season and if it's anything like C2 S2 i do believe this season will be DEFINITIVE proof that new fortnite is waaaaaaaaaaay better than old fortnite, nostalgia be damned. ALSO LEGO COLAB COMING SOON LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Epic : "fine, ill do it myself"
Honestly wish we could've had remakes to Chapter 2 and 3. Yes Epic has the right to not allow it. But if Chapter 1 maps can't be monetized, Chapter 2 and 3 can't be monetized too.
Just my opinion, I understand the legal circumstances.
it would be the same thing tho, probably even worse since not a single person that doesnt play fortnite anymore misses chapter 2 or chapter 3 maps
The only problem that would arise is copyright. With Poi’s like the daily bugle in the chapter 3 map, it would have to be removed or heavily altered. At that point it wouldn’t be a faithful remake
@@Alex-po7fp now that I think about it. It would make sense Epic wouldn't want to get in trouble for Crossover POIs
Couldn’t they just add some altered names or only give us a specific ones that had no crossover pois? Idk if it would be possible for the daily bugle poi, but I feel like they could work around the names/changing the design of the pois.
They're copyrighting their own game.
Either they planned to brought old maps back somehow, or they're just dumb.

Likewise I’m a grown adult, I have life to tend to but id love to see a fully fleshed out OG map, with OG movement. I’d play that more than regular BR.
I want to see an update video on what the reboot team is doing.

The OG heavy shotgun came back in the OG season which I'm happy about.
tbh uefn should allow us to use all the classes and entities, and only block Account/quests related options
because if you think about it, they are just items/entities, but they just restrict us like CR 1.0
if they don't give us more freedom (like custom items/cars etc) we can't really make unique experience's other than maps
The issue i have with people making their own battle royales within creative is that the queuing is ass compared to queuing up into solos, duos, trios, squads, and any competitive mode made by Epic. What i mean by that is you could have 8 people in ur party and load into a public match and team up on anyone who is actually playing solo. Before Ninja and them make their own BR if that still a thing Fortnite has to fix their queuing. Cause if we tried to have two people play solos it’ll say we have too many people in our party. Wish creative queuing was like that too.
This was a bit surreal to watch lol I didn't sleep very much the first week or so. Thanks for sharing it's good to see some coverage. Some good stuff coming soon :)

Yet another thing i am still raging at epic for lately. I personally wanted chapter 2 map. They just point blank said no to ch2 and 3. Why couldn’t Epic have done these maps seeing as they owned the copyright, memory limits everything. They never wanted old maps to return in UEFN

The reason Reboots matches dont start is not the lack of players, rather the matches stopped working. This is Epic Games fault for not updating UEFN.
Epic should’ve just been up front and said “yo don’t remake the chapter 1 map cuz we plan on doing it at the end of chapter 4…”
Then eventually, Og Fortnite comes back.

Just recently Atlas updated again, they added back Paradise Palms and that’s it. If you go into a reboot match and then go into replay mode, you can go to the island and see all the locations have been completely removed (and no it’s not because they aren’t rendering, as I myself have gone into replay and they render even on pause after a few seconds) so I think that Reboot had given up until they figure out a new system, which I find to be a shame as Reboot I found was WAYYYY more accurate, with the locations being 100% accurate to their OG counterparts. The thing is people over hype nostalgia for chapter 1 and ´´OG`` stuff. I get it those were hype times but reality is that the game wasn`t better or as good back then as it is now. (and yes i´ve played through all those OG times as well ) Most people go to maps like that play them a few times and then realize is not as fun is just nostalgia and go back to the new stuff. The future of creative 2.0 is in creating actually new experiences not trying to desperately go back to a rose tinted past.
Stop using nostalgia as a damn excuse. Look at the numbers, Fortnite peaked in season3-5, why? Because the game was GOOD, and better then what it is today. The map isn’t the only thing that made Fortnite what it was, it was its uniqueness, the sounds, the graphics, the hud etc etc, all of which got ruined in chapter 2 and onwards. If you think the game is truly better today then it was back then, then it would be more popular, but it isn’t, Fortnite became a sellout, and only stays relevant because they litter their game with constant collabs further ruining its unique feel.
Great vid bro, did you watch The Engoodening of No mans sky by any chance? 😂

The issue with Fortnite is that people can’t stop looking back on the past. Fortnite OG was fun without a doubt, but people keep looking for the same experience they had 6 years ago when in reality they’re never going to get that feeling again. As much as I loved chapter 1 the game needs to move on and if you don’t think that too you also need to move on.
I think so but this occasional OG thing is awesome, like imagine going back to chapter 2 or even chapter 3 season 1 a year or two later even though it wasn’t a very long time ago I still feel nostalgic for chapter 3 for whatever reason, even though I started playing in the og season 5. Plus I really like the chapter 3 season 1 map of course it got ruined after season 2 but it felt so exciting, we got Spiderman, tilted, grotto, interesting loot pool, cool updates and so much more. Chapter 2 is awesome as well, misty meadows, the agency, the rig, the shark, the yacht, the grotto, stark industries, marvel pleasant park, salty + tilted + sand mix, I even enjoyed the spire it was quite interesting as well, aliens, the first winterfest and these are only the first couple of things that come to my mind
It’s pretty much how people saw Gen 1 Pokemon/Genwunners in the mid 2010s

Loved the video, was very thorough! I've been a viewer of your channel for a decent amount of time now, and really enjoy your content, but I've never considered commenting. I agree with all of the points you make in this video, everything you said was very accurate (especially with the creative jank, sadly).
(GIANT TEXT BLOCK INCOMING, TL;DR AT THE END)
One thing that I stand by and feel like people should realise is that you can't just bring back something that gives you nostalgia normally. One of the key reasons Fortnite is still alive to this day is its relentlessness with evolving. Epic Games have been technologically in the upper-ranks of game development (and even movie development in places) for quite a bit now. The Unreal Engine has constantly been getting better and better, and thus, so has Fortnite. Fortnite is really one of the big poster boys for Epic Games, and certainly seems like their go-to place to test out and implement new UE features. When watching live events, I've often felt they were more of a flex of new UE capabilities than actually trying to further the game. With Chapter 4s release, the graphics to me felt more like a "we're doing this because we can, not because we need to" kind of move. Not getting sidetracked, though, Fortnite wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for the constant upkeep of the game and introduction of fresh new content. Even if the content is bad, it helps the Fortnite RUclips community still. But making a faithful recreation of the old Fortnite map and expecting it to survive-let alone THRIVE-for a considerable amount of time is just unrealistic. People came back, played it, got their nostalgia hit, and then had no reason to return. It's not getting constantly updated, you can't really revolutionise the video game industry with a giant technological leap in UEFN and have your map be the mascot for it. But the biggest reason that these maps didn't perform well is because they are recreations of the old Fortnite MAP, not the old Fortnite EXPERIENCE. They might seem the same if we're talking about creative, but the player base was extremely different back then in contrast to the current player base. As much as a UEFN creator can try to carve their own community standards and make their own skill ceiling and such, it will rarely be successful. When you look at it like that, It's pretty evident why Epic Games disallowed Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 remakes. They want a constant stream of fresh new content, not content that is already locked away in a vault and has run its course. If Fortnite never changed, it would not be alive, obviously. But it also wouldn't have as much of a nostalgia contrast. If it didn't change, how are there things to miss? How are there things to want to go back to? My point is: You can bring back things from the old times, but you'll never bring back the old times themselves. It's sad to see Epic supressing maps like these, and It's sad to see people move on so rapidly. I admire the work these creators put into these very accurate recreations of OG Fortnite, and wish that they could have profited more from it. But if this was indeed the future of creative, we would literally be living in the past. I'm sad that I didn't get to play Chapter 1 Fortnite; I joined in early Chapter 2. I hate sweats being everywhere, I dislike the seeming lack of ideas for new content that Epic Games seems to have, but these aren't things that can be changed.
I'm very happy that you made this video, I've been looking for something like this for ages. I enjoyed every second of this video and agree with your points!
Well, now that we've got the OG Map technically back, I just have to wait for people to stop complaining about the Pump Shotgun being vaulted as well 😭
Note: Sorry if this is a bit disjointed or not smooth to read, I've got lots of points that I'd like to make and not much vision on what categories they fall into, sooooo this is kind of just 50% a half-baked message about OG Fortnite remakes and 50% a rant about random things 😅
Rant aside, love the content! Keep it up !
TL;DR: You can bring back things from the old times, but you'll never bring back the old times themselves. Fortnite survives because of its constant upkeep and revolution in the video game industry, a UEFN experience just can't match that to the same level. I'm sad that these maps didn't succeed and that these creators didn't profit from it, although I understand Epic Games' POV. Love the content and thoroughly enjoyed this video! Keep it up !
i am reading allat 🔥🔥
Totally agree! The thing about the nostalgia not working is something I brought up in the video but you make a great point about Fortnite constantly evolving; it's how it has survived all these years. Thanks for commenting!
I would definitely prefer Chapter 1 over some ripoff maps like what we see on Roblox or the billionth OnlyUp ripoff. *cough* simulators
Edit: I feel like if any one of the Chapter 1 remakes succeeded, We would see a trend of more gameplay-focused maps that aren't there to make a quick buck and degrade the experience overall into mindless drivel for 5 year olds to suck up and make the creators rich beyond their wildest dreams.
surprisingly, this aged very well! holy shit epic did something good this time. REBOOT ROYALE AVG W
Honestly, the chapter 1 maps were gonna fail bugs or not. People would eventually get bored with the same thing yk?
I miss chapter 2 badly😢
Now where in november and the chapter one map returned oficially
