I really hope you all enjoyed this MEGA buying guide! It's a bit different from the others, but I put more time than I can count into making this one, and I hope you enjoyed it!

It must be good, the old Commodore 64 had to load a game for more than 5 minutes... even with Novaload or other fast loading for disk drives. For that we would use Epyx FastLoad Cartridge.
Great video. I just grabbed a c64 mini and growing up with only the Vic 20, I am not really familiar with the 64s games. Glad I found your channel while searching for C64 mini info. You did a good job going through each game and presented everything well. Thanks 👍🏼
The C64 always interested me so I’m excited you did a video on the mini
Thank you tons! I hope you enjoyed it!
Just found your video from happenstance. Amazing high quality content, you really deserve more views man. Come on RUclips algorithm pick this man up.
Thank you tons and tons!
Just a note, as of August 25th, the Maxi has been available for preorder on amazon, with a release date of November 5th 2020 for north america. (Not an ad, just this video is made after it was already available for ordering so I just wanted to mention the Maxi is almost here) Key features it has outside of the normal working keyboard and 4 usb ports upgrade are as follows - contains a vic-20 emulator and can boot up in carousel mode, or 64 or vic20 basic directly, it has a slightly different selection of games from the mini, a micro switch joystick (also sold separately if needed ), and the biggest feature that most videos don't mention on the rewiew - the Maxi has the ability to load cartridges, tapes and disks in tandem directly from basic. Disk swapping is easy and you can run programs on top of carts for instance if using a hex editor cart with a game disk, something the mini lacks.
Great video, but I have to disagree with your Paradroid review. It is seriously one of the best games on the C64. I get the impression you just made an honest mistake of not knowing the main mechanic of the game isn't in shooting the enemy droids, but possessing better droids with different strengths and abilities. Hold down the button and ram into them, and it will bring up a really cool mini-game where you have to hotwire the opponent droid in order to take it over. The bigger the number, the tougher the droid. If you win, you can control that droid and work your way up to tougher droids.
I may give it another shot now :)
1:41 - You forgot to say "And not to the classes" like how Jack Tramiel (Commodore founder) described the Atari ST Computer from 1985 lol
Awesome video! I just bought the C64 mini at EB Games for $19.99. I’m excited to get into it and put more games on it.
Hope you enjoy it!
Fantastic video. I wish the Mini would have came with more CRPGS like the D&D goldbox games and some more obscure games like White Viper (seriously weird action/adventure game). I for one would love to see a follow up video or maybe have a poll from us older gamers on what c64 games you should review next. :)
On the bright side, due to how it's set up, nothing is stopping you from hooking up a USB keyboard and loading those titles onto it!
@@StuffWePlay You want to get some weird looks just put in some c64 chip tunes as a ring tone or a notification and it gets people everytime. Currently using Monty on the Run.
I used to love to play Destroyer back in the day. The fact that this had that game in it was a big reason for me buying it. I gotta say I can't get passed that coordinates screen either. 🤬
I really enjoyed your review. But can you please tell me what the hell he said at 17:58
I Wonder If The c64 Work With My Logitech Mk 700 / Mk 710 Wireless Keyboard + Mouse Combo ?
It’s here!
It's finally here!
Please give Deflektor another chance. It's actually a fun, unique and challenging action/puzzle game.
Great video, though have to disagree regarding your views on Paradroid and Uridium: they were both classics back in the day.
Fair enough!
None of my top 5 are here:
Oils Well
Hunchback
Manic Miner
Bruce Lee
Le Mans
Gateway to Apshai is legendary.
I Love That Game !
I don't think I ever saw a UK-style Enter/Return key on an otherwise US layout keyboard.
I just received mine today. For what it is it's not too bad. However, I never played with the original C64, so a word of advice for other novices: be very, very, VERY patient with the joystick. I'm used to Atari joysticks that are short and more loose and you can push them with the top of your thumb. Not so much with the C64 stick. It's just so damn stiff that it's going to be a while to get used to
my joystick still works great. some people are to hard on them they end of breaking it
oh man California games. I still have the nes cartridge. I was horrible at that game. and it caused as much game rage as Super Mario Sunshine is causing on SM3d All Stars (Which is why I'm watching your video 4 days after it came out) but I still loved it
And I love bobble bobble. I need to get back into playing the new Switch bubble bobble game
and that clip from "the wizard" YES!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the vid!
Answer: Yes! the maxi is impossible to find but at about $30? paper or with the periboard 409h and load the latest update? you have more than a games console. you have something you can actually use to develope programs on. anna it's fun!
I'd still love to get ahold of the max sometime! That full-size useable keyboard is very alluring to me
@@StuffWePlay No doubt! Yesterday I noticed they are listed on Amazon and you could place the order! www.amazon.com/C64-not-machine-specific/dp/B08GMTJYXJ It's already unavailable again.... you have to keep checking. You could add your email to a notify list but I don't think you will get that email in time to order. You have to keep a tab open to that listing and keep checking.
Retro Games Ltd could have licenced the Commodore branding, but once it licenced the Kernal and BASIC ROM, and licenced the breadbin design it was not necessary to get the C= branding. It would have also added to the cost. Also when you say "ROMs" you mean disk, tape and cartridge images most likely, or program binaries. the BASIC and Kernal ROMs are already present.
Also, all C64 copyrighted games are not yet old enough to be considered as "abandonware" - this does not exist. Unless the copyright holder has explicitly put their works into the public domain, the copyright is still owned by someone even if they don't know that they own it.
Is this system better than the flashback Atari systems???
Strange that people from different time periodes, see controls differently. To me, moving the joystick up in jump n' shoot games (platformers), are natural on 8 and 16 bit computer games. Consoles on the other hand, is a way different story. On consoles, jumping is most natural with the use of a button. The same with controllers/gamepads/joypads, as they are a strict console thing (CDTV and CD32 included). However on 8-bit and 16-bit computers, you have to use joysticks. On PC, we used keyboards back then, as to why keyboard and mouse is most natural in Dis games.
I think it all depends, on what era you grew up in, and what childhood tech you had. Just dont tell me that the only natural way to play Dos toomraider is a controller. As that is not universal and is not for all. I actually never saw anyone use controllers on a PC, before around 2004'ish or something (circa mid-00's)
By the way.... I never played Alleycat in the 1980's. However I played IBM' Allycat for Dos in the late 1980's. I was sad to discover that they are two different games. 😒
Thanks for the vid! I enjoyed the review. I'll probably pass on the product though.
Commenting on 'netherworld' music, after saying nothing about 'mega apocalypse' and 'monty in the run' as literally the previous 2 titles....
I'm almost crying! :D
Shame, Jamie... Shame...
;)
I wanted one of these after I heard they made one. After seeing the list of games though I was completely disappointed. NONE of the games that I had on my C64 are included on here except for Impossible Mission.
@@philparrish6914 I'm not well versed in using one of those. I'm not much for the technical side of things. Just playing games or surfing the web.
Worth a like for 24:06 alone!
Why don't you ever live stream anymore? Miss you!
I actually stream every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm Pacific over on Twitch! Find me there at jamie_plays_stuff!
Of course they are worth buying. It is 2023 and I just bought one.
It's literally 20 bucks so I'm not losing out on much if I don't like it.
Pole position.. Ghostbusters paperboy and groggs revenge?
Have the lag issues on the Mini been resolved?
I just want it for commodore basic
Tell the truth...do you honestly see yourself coming back to play this many more times? ;)
I legit have! Being able to load ROMs onto it nearly out of the box makes it very nice to play around with
@@StuffWePlay what did you add
Pass on Ranarama?!?! I did play it on Atari st to be fair so it looked better.
dunè 2 was the best game to Amiga 500
yes its worth it i bought C64 Mini when it came out
This is a cool game once was in a mansion house to pick up and never touch again? Is that what you said at 17:58 LOL. I really do appreciate the Younghans but sometimes I cannot understand the mumble talk. Mumble rap ruined The world
It might be an accent lingering. I grew up speaking Cajun from my dad and grandfather who grew up in the swamps of Louisiana and while I have grown from that, it still comes around once in awhile and confuses everyone lol I don’t think it’s so much mumble rap but the older generation of people who learned the basics of English and developed interesting accents.
Your friend never finished ni no kuni 1 😢
Womp womp
@@StuffWePlay what's whomp?
I would rather have a C64c mini. I like C64c design better than the breadbox version.
I can play commodore 64 games whatever I want (in my PCs and Smartphones) so I don't see the point to buy a C64 mini
yes it worth it
Awesome review very in depth thank you, such a shame the keyboard don’t work.I think I’ll get one of these for my wife…👍
😂 please stop saying ‘way good’ and putting ‘way’ in front of words, that don’t go together, it’s way! Annoying and very cringe 😂😂
Hehehe... schlong.
Classic Stuff We Play.
Thank you!
For $36 why the hell not.
Just use an emulator.... for free...
