  • I take a look at a used trailer and the dangers that come in the business. Don't lose big money when buying a used flat bed trailer. This owner made a mistake and it cost him big.

As someone who spent a few decades dealing with stuff like that as both a tech and a custom fabricator, I can say a good bit of the problem is that owners simply are not familiar with what they are buying. All too often I had guys roll up to my door thinking they found a diamond in the rough only to find out it needs more work than it would ever be worth. In most cases, they paid to fix it just enough to make it safe to go down the road so they could dump it on someone else. With regular customers I would gladly inspect what ever they were looking at but all too often they just jumped on a deal made under the pressure of losing it and got burned. Some did this over and over again. A few wised up and got smarter, a few didn't and are no longer in the business.
A rig like that is very fixable and it can be done right, but its only worth it if for one, you get the trailer for almost nothing, and two, you can do the work yourself.
I've brought many trucks and trailers back from the dead over the years and made them perfectly safe and usable again but most were bought for near nothing and fixed in my spare time, in my shop.
If it needs work, and you can't do it yourself or if you don't have an in-house source of labor and a proper source for parts and materials, walk away and go find something that's ready to roll or bite the bullet and buy new.
