1. Lyrics- The lyrics are great. Super slow and passionate and very understandable. 2. If you don't know me by now- such awesome words. I love that he can just repeat that over and over and it just sounds good every single time. Love those lyrics.
The original by Harold Melvin and the Blue notes with Teddy Pendergrass was even more soulful.Nice cover by Simply Red. He's a powerful singer, with a unique sound.I love Simply Red's "Holding Back the Years.
Yeah, this original classic was a big R & B hit with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes back in the 1970's. If you listen to the original, you can see that Simply Red performed it in the same style as the original. Vocals and the orchestra arrangement as close to the original which is why the old music fans will like this version. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Check out the original. This was Philly Soul at its best.
Look, if you’re going to do Simply Red, you have to do ‘Holding Back the Years’ That like his best known song. Also, ‘Money’s Too Tight to Mention’, and ‘Stars’
Please keep reacting to Simply Red. Mick is an old soul, no wonder he is mostly sings in soul. Not only he is a music composer and lyrics writer of all his songs, he is an amazing dancer too! One of my favorites: ruclips.net/video/uOVReC8Fczk/видео.html
Is not a bad song... But I HATE it! Here's why: when this song came out, in 1989, it was played every 20 minutes on the radio. This is when I was in Boot Camp, and even on base, you couldn't get away from hearing it on repeat at the mess hall. So everytime I heart it now, I get flashbacks of bootcamp... And I doubt anyone looks back on bootcamp with yearning.

Really beautiful song, so smooth & romantic to dance to.🎶🎶🎶🎶💕🥰🥰🥰🥰
yeah, I feel like he's super duper passionate
This is one of those rare songs where I think both the original and the cover are equally worthy.
ya normally the original has the upper hand almost all the time.
Great review J
Another great cover but he did a great job again a lot of soul

Niiiiice!!!
Thanks for the comment and being a sub. I appreciate it a lot.
Originally done by Melvin and the Blue Notes. So it is soul. Original and Simply Red both did it so well. 😍
Ya it seems like so many songs are remakes back in the day. And the remakes are often bigger hits than the originals.
Please! Listen too the original Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes” with Teddy Pendergrass Singing lead!
Check out "Sunrise" by Simply Red
