Love his techniques regarding straying away from terrible varnishes and how oils can give you better results with way less headaches compared to the old techniques we all have followed to the T a million times before.

I pre-ordered this as well! As a beginner I'm pretty hyped to learn and broaden my knowledge with this book. I also ordered the Tankart 2 for allied armor as I do quite a few of those as well. Great review btw and I loved all your videos. Very professionally executed and enjoyable to watch.

Thanks very much. There is no better single reference from armor modeling in my opinion.

I was planning to build the Pz IV with the 88, so I researched the subject. From what I found there was a version with the drivers compartment(as in the Dragon kit) and another one without(as seen in this book).
Tankart is a rare book where I live, I've only managed to get number 4, but I'll certainly keep an eye out for this one.

That would explain why there is a kit that looks that way. I'll have to look in to that tank. Thanks for pointing it out. You can order these straight from RSP and the shipping isn't too bad.

it is such a rich book one could easily base a world religion on it. no doubt :)

I'd go to that church. "Today I shall read from the gospel of Michael, Therefore go and make rust streaks of all armor, weathering them in the name of the Chipping and of the Wash and of the Holy White Spirit.

And after six days Tamiya did look back on what it had created.... and seen that it was good.

Absolutely fantastic book, but I wish they'd upgrade their packaging. 1st one I ordered arrived with a badly dinged spine, had to send it back (they were terrific about it). Got the 2nd one and though, while fine, still had a slightly dinged bottom corner (minor - I'll be keeping it). For such a beautiful book, the packaging is simply a snug fitting cardboard box that if dropped on the corners *will* ding the book. They should ship it in a package with some "crumple room", so if (when) it's dropped, it will impact the book to a minimal degree. Still well worth getting!!

Did you contact RSP? Michael is a solid guy, I'm sure he'd try to work something out to fix it. I can't speak for his policy, but I can tell you he's a very nice guy. Drop him an email. Sorry to hear about that.

Oh, they were terrific about replacing it. And truly the replacement copy has a very minor ding (like I said, I kept it). I'm of the opinion they just need better packaging. Not a deal-breaker - fabulous book!

I think everyone needs at least one of these sorts of books. Whether it's WIlder, Mig or Rinaldi. I actually like Rinaldi's style because he's not big on modulation and neither am I.

Regarding beginners like myself, he was giving some good advice I'm sure you agree. "The easiest thing to remember is it is just like a sport or any other skill, repetition, practice and practice again are the real paths to understanding the nuances and how this all works. And don't bite off more than you can chew and try every technique right out of the gate."
That last statement rings true for me because I was thinking I was going to try as much weathering techniques as possible but I think I need a few models under my belt before doing EVERYTHING.

That all sounds like the right attitude to me. I'm a little guilty of not pushing myself enough with weathering. But that's why I look at these books, to remind myself of how good it can look.

Pre-order even after the official release date, so it seems. $39 is no bad though

That's strange. But the price is worth it I think.

      Thanks Adam,
As of what you have shown I agree with you on the price.
You would not have a book reference of German figure Painting wouldn't you?
