I am on my first week with a bass, and I thought this song would be relatively easy when I found the tabs on Songsterr. Two days of trying later, I only have the intro down and I barely get the notes right on the rest (still no rhythms yet). This song sounds deceptively easy... On another more successful note, I made it most of the way through Devin Townsend Project's song Stormbending, but the string tension is so low in Open C that I was getting horrendous fret buzz. I am going to need to set aside a week or so for only Devy tunes and set up my bass accordingly.
Honestly, I would not begin with this song. Most of the song is doable, but the ending is not easy. There's parts during the guitar solo that require some experience for sure. Moment like the speed up at 6:57 or just the insane amount of variations.. Good luck though!
LeoBassCovers I have successfully played On Fire by Switchfoot (Cali rock ballad), I am having a hard time finding songs I know/like that are approachable to play. I love Rush, Dream Theater, Symphony X, and others like that so most of my fav songs are waayy out of my reach.
I see. When it comes to those bands, it's usually ballads that are like the easier songs. So like Through Her Eyes with Dream Theater or soft songs like that one. Definitely understand what you mean though. I guess it's also a reason to be motivated to improve so that might be able to play them at some point :)
I've been playing Dev's stuff on bass and you definitely need thicker gauge strings for the CGCG tuning (I use 130-65). Done 'Deadhead' recently. To be honest, I use a 5-stringer now (GCGCG) and it's much better.
very good, keep up the good work !
Thanks for sharing and the tabs ;)
No problem!
Thank you
