      @Reflekt0r Das kann man nicht leugnen. :) Ich habe mich schon mit der Tatsache abgefunden, dass ich nie wie ein Muttersprachler klingen werde, was ich all den fehlenden Worten in Untertiteln zuschreibe. :P

    I tried reading scripts of stuff I had already watched. Gave up. Better reading novels with lots of dialogue (and read aloud).
    When I was in earlier stages of my English learning, I would automatically repeat many sentences I heard.
    My main language learning method these last days has been feeding pieces of news to ChatGPT or literature and having it turn them into interlinear texts. Close to literal translations. Been reading Kafka (way way above my level) this way.

    • @Evildea
      @Evildea  Месяц назад

      I played around a bit with interlinear via 3rd party apps but I haven’t tried it for myself. Again my own concern would be getting audio.

    Bdw.. What is grinding? I am lost... I no longer know any effective methods. I was previously with comprehension input, where I listen and wait for the words to be repeated(I did not memorize the vocabulary, but after repeating it several times, it stuck) and so on, but it is slow because I am at the middle level.. How do I apply grinding? Do I take sentences that contain new vocabulary and for each singular vocabulary I put 5 plurals according to the context in a chat gpt I brought and repeat? 5 times, I moved, and at the end of the day, I went to see if I remembered...Or memorize it in a normal way. I did not understand. This is similar to memorization and references, but it is only added to it, adding the vocab and repeating it in several sentences as if I am memorizing the vocabulary.

      Grinding is not a method by itself. It just means to put effort and time into practice.
      One example would be to take a flashcard app like Anki with thousands of vocab cards and just grind through them day by day until you learned it all. Same thing with any other method like the one in the video here.
      The opposite would be either not putting a lot of time into practice or to try to learn by doing fun things like watching a movie and hoping comprehensible input will do its thing.

      The commenter above me described grinding perfectly, however, if you want a demo of how I grind you can see it here: The Grind | How to ACTUALLY Learn a Language

      @noobXqoou tyy.. But.. I listen to the content I love in the language I prefer, and I collect more than 40 words/Dag.. Should I finally do the grinding, that is, review everything in English, sentences, etc in anki .. Is that the methode?

    • @noobXqoou
      @noobXqoou Месяц назад

      @Timeless-taales what do you currently do with the sentences you collect if you do not put them into anki?
      If you do want to grind with evildea's method then yes put them into anki. Also put an audio version of the sentences in the card as well to learn listening comprehension. He replied to your comment as well with a video where he explains what he does.
      Good luck

    • @Timeless-taales
      @Timeless-taales Месяц назад

      @noobXqoou Yes, I put them in Anki. I also asked about putting the parts in Anki and reviewing them. Today, is it considered grinding or am I missing something? Because the method seemed simple and does not require a lot of effort other than reviewing in Anki.

    I think the cycle just reinvents spaced repetition, and the change in amount of study on the second pass acts as reinforcing the material, but also allows your mind to reengage with the material. When you hit that point where your brain goes, "Aha! I am done now!" because it recognizes the pattern, it gets tripped up and has to refocus. Sounds like a good tool for the tool chest

    Having not watched this fully yet I can recommend language acquisition by running through a play or script that contains the structural aspects of the language. It can be repeated and repeated. The rules of the language can be learned implicitly or explicity.

    I agree with you Evildea it seems like a pretty good method. In a lot of ways it is very similar to your card method. I will experiment with this method only i will not be able to use a Filipino movie/tv show as i can’t stand them (they are so cringy/corny it’s not funny). Instead i will ask chat gpt to write me a script based on my favourite movie. I already have the accent down pat so it shouldn’t be a problem.

    So, his listening is youtube and not the show he is grinding? I couldn't do that. I watch shows over and over again to copy the show. Kind of how I learned English by "having roles" with Disney movies. My sister and I would watch Lion King over and over again, and have the parts set up and songs were free for all. I still say in a deeper voice, "I'm surrounded by idiots." 😂 Thanks Scar! My coworkers also say that I elongated "Surrounded" which I think comes from mimic of Lion King.
    Same thing with reading only that he is doing here. He speaks a bit fast to cover his mistakes. I have to say "ethnicity" at work now for one of my jobs. Almost every day while I work. I can't pronounce it. I have only ever seen it written on forms. My husband sits at the supper table and I repeat it after he says it. We do it five times every night. I am getting better, but still struggle. It isn't how I learn pronunciation.
    But, in Mandarin, I have been watching Nimona and Word of Honor over and over again. I repeat my favorite lines from them. I know the context for each word and sentence. This is how I prefer to learn, too. More fun that five minutes of an episode a day and read. Mimic the show. The way the actors say the words. Their mannerisms when saying the words. I can read books all day long, too, and read aloud. I think that is why he has such a severe accent. He needs to mimic along with his grind of the scripts. He couldn't say "aroma" and almost skipped over it.
    He wants to sound like the youtube people, but is practicing with scripts instead of mimicking. I think that is where he is falling off.

    • @Evildea
      @Evildea  Месяц назад +1

      I haven’t heard of either of those two Chinese movies. I’m going to need to check them out. I also did what you did but with Aladdin and Starship Troopers haha. I swear my brothers and I know almost every line of Starship Troopers to this day and we randomly just quote the movie in real life to this day. There’s even been times when one of us will start and the next thing you know we’re playing out an entire scene! God I wish there was a Chinese dub of that movie! Actually, I’m going to see if I can locally find one now that I’m in China lol.
      But I agree he needs to do more mimicking to improve his accent and he does use speed to cover up his errors.

    • @francegamble1
      @francegamble1 Месяц назад

      @Evildea 山河令 and 怪物少女妮莫娜 are the Chinese names for the shows I mentioned. So you can find them.
      I think everyone should have a favorite show or movie in their language. Either their first language or target languages.
      He understands English well, except that he doesn't mimic well. He made a video on learning to speak, so I was waiting for "shadowing" or something to come up. Reading is fine for exact languages where there aren't pronunciation variables, but English isn't there.

    • @francegamble1
      @francegamble1 Месяц назад

      @vogditis Quoi? He made a video about speaking English? Correct? I may have to watch again. So, I made a comment on how I learned to pronounce English? 🙃 How I am learning to pronounce Mandarin...?

    The biggest problem with this method is you will sound really corny, like a 90s sitcom character. Had a gf who learned english this way and it was grating. I think it could be balanced with more neutral content.

      @narsplace its everything to do with the methodology. You are what you eat. You become what you consume. I would not choose films for "learning from films" for that reason.

    • @fromfleshtoclay34

      @@twodyport8080 Besides sitcoms there are courtroom dramas, dramadies, dramas, detective shows. Watch a little bit of everything, and you won't develop a sitcom accent. When you reach an advanced stage, watch content creators on RUclips. One way to avoid sounding artificial is to watch people visiting places and talking to locals, building houses and talking about it, anything, given that the person is in their natural environment.
      As for me, I always pay a lot more attention to how men speak, because that's how I want to sound, like a man, and not a 20 year old girl.
