Thank you for this video. I am tech savvy but the truth is most people run into the little hiccups like you did. So nice to see a how to video without all the technical jargon. This is how installing new tech goes 99% of the time (plug it in and troubleshoot until working). Love the video and glad you got it working. I will be doing something similar.
Thank you for this review. I am considering the Unifi UDM-US for a different reason. I need VLAN support to achieve security separation between my trusted and non-trusted LAN devices. You don't want your security camera NVR and cameras, smart thermostat, Roku devices, etc. offering a hacker entrance into your computers. Consumer routers do not offer VLAN capability. As I understand it, this device will let me construct VLANs to separate devices both wired and wireless.
Yes, from what I understand you are correct. This is completely out of my league I simply wanted a broader Wi-Fi network but from the reading I’ve done this system is very secure.
@@bobbygfl least you admit it. 😂 From watching this video, I think you would have been better off with the amplifi HD as the dream machine features are way out of your technical depth. But thanks for sharing!
You need to put that cover back on that tiki hut outlet. It is on there for weather protection. Removing that cover you are allowing moisture to get into the outlet that isnt supposed to be there. You have a nice home it would be a shame to have outdoor fire from electrical issue. Hire an electrician and have a outlet wired for that outdoor unit.
Don’t use a Beacon HD for your outside, it’s not weather proof in the slightest. You can buy specific UniFi weather proof access points that can connect wirelessly back to your UDM.
Now, we need to set up some Intrusion Protection, DPI and VLAN's to get your cameras and guests off the main network. You're only scratching the surface of what Unifi can do. If Centrylink is cable you don't need their box, just a good cable modem.
@@bobbygfl that's what you're SFP plug is. Not 100% sure on the US fibre internet but in Australia for a fibre to the premise connection, the fibre to ethernet controller is part of the install, so you just plug the eth into your wan port and setup your connection on the unifi
@YOLOfotos, I purchased one of these and have yet to set up the beacons. I've just started your video and hope to see how its done. Thanks for being one of the few to explain it to a tech guy who speaks mostly regular language. Looking forward to seeing how it's done. @John Greenwell, I need to setup the separate VLAN's for the purpose you mentioned. Is there some RUclips video's out there that explain this on a UDM? Thanks to both of you!
Dont do ring cameras, It will be better to just go with unifi protect and get their cameras recording 24-7 instead. You would just need the cloud key gen 2 and cameras, way better than ring, sell those ring cameras and get unifi cameras
@@bobbygfl me too... It's really great to have so much data and control... Wait until you discover you can charges people to use your wifi... That will blow your mind 😁
I’m actually pretty happy with my ring cameras. I don’t have any real demanding performance needs I just want some level of security beyond nothing. Thanks for the comment

Will I be able to use wifi 6 access points in the ceiling with this router?
I’m not sure but the manufacturers website should be able to help you

It’s been out there since the video and I’ve had zero issues
@@bobbygfl those huts still seep a bit of water in but with the silicone, you should be right
You can turn the LEDS off....dont use the iPad app....use a proper web browser (on computer) to fully access all your settings
Thanks! I’m learning that. The web browser Is way more functional thanks for the comment
