Nice video. I've had 5 sets of Anakee Adventure over the course of the last 4 seasons. Done in excess of 45-50.000 kilometers on them. With two different bikes, 2016 BMW 1200GSA and 2019 KTM 1290SAS. I live in Norway and here roads can be rough, whether we talk pavement or gravel/dirt. Anakee is beyond doubt the best dual sport I've had this far. Which is why I was happy the same shoes were on when I switched to 1290 SAS.
Have lost count on how many alpine (or Norwegian) hairpins I've done with them. Under all conditions imaginable (except snow). No other tire have made me feel that confident. Even in peg-scraping mode. Returning from Europe last fall I had to swap tires in Germany. Only Conti TKC70 was available there and then. Suffice to say, will never buy those again. TKC70 is not horrible. But AA warms faster, and sticks better. It's back to AA, or try something new. Like Dunlop Trailmax Mission. But the AA is much better value for the money IMHO. Funny, never had any tracking issues. With TKC70 on the other hand, wandering. Very tire pressure sensitive. One should be a notch under recommended I'd say. Pressure quickly goes up when one rides anways.
Noise isn't much of an issue if you use earplugs. Comparatively I find them quiet, except for, as you say, when you do cornering in high speed. But even then I can't say it's been bothering me. Mileage have been between 8500 -10.000 kilometers. Very much depending on load, temperature and overall usage/riding. My homepage is filled with various impressions , both on BMW GSA and 1290SAS. Cheers.

Amazing feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time to write that up!
A few people have suggested the TKC70, Dunlop Trailmax's etc too so great to hear your experience.
I loved the Michelin Road 5's and was blown away by their handling so thought that the Michelin brand for my next tyres would be the place I went to first. Overall, i'm very happy with them.
Thanks for watching, and again for your comment!

Doubt you've tried TKC70 Rocks...put 9000 miles on a set and nothing in stock to replace ...had to mount Ankees...can't wait to replace them...garbage in gravel and can't compare in the rain to TKC 70's.

@@steveaustin1820 Beg to differ. And I have TKC70 Rocks /TKC70 front now. I quite fancy the offroad capability of the Rocks, no doubt it is excellent. But for pavement, well, the TKC front is much more sensitive to uneven/rough surfaces. The rear is also noisy on the 1290SAS whilst compared to AA, although the resonance/singing seems to wane a bit as it wears.
Done many of the same type of roads on both. IMO AA set is a better allrounder. Different people, different preferences.

These tyres are standard fit on my 2020 V85TT Travel. I've got about 4.5k miles on them, with no complaints so far. I haven't particularly noticed any tramlining - but the Guzzi is basically a piece of agricultural machinery so.. ;-) Excellent in the dry, can be a bit noisy at some speeds, but I wear earplugs 95% of the time so not an issue really.
I've been out today on greasy 7degC Welsh roads - very similar to your video. I was taking it easy but had no dodgy moments at all. As you say they won't grip in mud or wet grass - only a full on knobbly will be much good there. I've found them ok on gravel roads. Recently went out on icy [tarmac] mountain roads, and although the TC kicked in a few times when provoked, the tyres actually felt fine even though there wasn't much grip on the surface. (I was taking it very easy of course). The rear is squaring off - so we'll see how long they last.
Would definitely fit them again if they keep on gripping like this to the end of their life. 👍

Last year I was made a Halvarssons ambassador through Bikestop.co.uk, so they have supplied me with the new Racken Leather jacket and Rinn trousers, which is proving to be the best gear I've ever worn! Not just saying that because it was given to me! Waterproof, warm and comfortable! AAA rated too which is great.
Them giving me the gear was the only reason I changed!
The helmet is an Arai Tour X4, and the gloves in this vid are the Gerbing XR12 Heated gloves - superseded by the XR range! Both have been awesome so far.
I'll do a proper video in the coming months about all of my riding gear.

I noticed they were developed with H-D for that machine but when you look at the specs they are almost identical and will be considering them when I get to replace the KTMS tyres at whatever point that occurs. This is interesting, as I have heard very negative stuff about the Anakee tire. With some people calling them the "Panickees." Because supposedly they do lousy in rain. And one of the persons who said that is a guy (can't remember his name or channel name) who does European tours through Europe, putting on 10's of thousands of miles per year. Obviously someone with a lot of miles, hours, and trial and errors under his belt.
Because excellent wet performance is very important to me, as I ride rain or shine, I have avoided these tires. I wish that tire manufactures released wet tire performance stats of their tires. Because tire material and how it affects grip is important, but the ability of the water to evacuate water is just or more important with you hit some puddles of different sizes. No matter how much grip a tire has, if it can't evacuate water fast enough all the grip in the world won't matter.
Currently I have the Avon Trail Riders. Good tires on dry weather. In the rain the rear tire feels very good. No complains what so ever. The front does too, until I hit puddles. Then the front feels a little bit "loose" over puddles.which surprised me since the thread pattern on the Trailriders look really good for evacuating water. And I've ridden them for may be about 700 miles so far. So obviously not much wear, specially for a front tire.

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  Год назад

I think the tyres you've heard about are the Anakee 3s. They used to be the stock tyre that came on a GS and a few others but were really bad when it came to the wet weather or cold! They got branded as the Panicky 3s! These are a completely new tyre and have no real connection to the Anakee 3s besides the name!
These were really good in the wet, but if you want unrivalled grip in the wet, try some Road 6s. They are fantastic! One of my favourite tyres! I do like the Trail Riders but not really put enough miles on them to give a proper verdict!

had them on a GSA. hated them. super loud. trammels. and nothing great off road either - wander like a road tire. i got rid of them far before they were worn. this intermediate style tire seems to be an all around loser. poor on all surfaces. get a 90-10 and realize big limits off road. or get a 50-50 and realize big limits on road. clunky and a bit scary on the edges in my opinion.

Ahh really? I know a lot of people hated the Anakee 3's that come on most GS's as stock. Not heard a bad word about these new anakee adventures yet. Agree on the limits. Definitely have their limits!
