  • Enameling is a process by which powdered glass is fused to a metal substrate at high heat. Enamels can be applied to glass, ceramics, and most commonly, metals. The application of enamels can add color to metals such as copper, silver, and gold.
In this video, Crucible instructor CJ Martinez will show you the steps for applying layers of dry enamel to copper and what it looks like to fire your piece.
You can learn techniques for enameling in an upcoming Crucible class. See our current offerings at www.thecrucible.org/course-search/enameling. Or learn more about enameling from the comfort of your couch with our Guides to Industrial Arts - www.thecrucible.org/guides/glass-4/
We highly recommend wearing a mask while doing any fine enamel work.

Thank you they are copper discs that I hammer inside for texture & make concave which gives allows the light to bounce off & give more depth of color. They have also been enameled & fired several times over to achieve that vivid blue.
