The people in this comment section are way too uninformed. There was a stair behind the top. Also, there's machines making waves in the water to massively reduce surface tension, making the fall rather safe. You can actually see their effect in the video. Lastly, to free solo above water is the whole point of this competition. There are tons of other climbing competitions with ropes, this here is however is without. Everyone who participates knows what they're getting into. And if the commentator urges her to jump it's because he knows it's inevitable and he knows that there are other participants who want to go next.

The girl on the left before each movement a hundred times “lubricates” her hands in chalk. I almost bombed when she did it for half an hour. (I am Russian, and because of this, my little one suffers)
Very impressive climbing and strength 💪. Nice job ladies!
I felt so bad for her when she didn't want to jump, like couldn't of they put like stairs if you make it to the top cause if you fall it goes so fast that you can't do anything. but if you make it to the top then it's really hard for you to make that jump. And she's only 13 but wow is she impressive when shes rock climbing
She was loving the attention, that was part of her refusing let go.
The secret of her successful finish is the fear of jumping on the water...... Future of the game.
And the sweaty hands begin ....
I watch 1 episode of a climbing anime. RUclips: "Guess you want to see every climbing tournament from the last 10 years."
Why do they have to put there hands in the chalk 10 times every time they do on move
To make their hands dry again, from the sweat , and increase the friction. Similar to what Olympic gymnasts do
Wow, that takes determination and strength! Great Job!
Watching them climb and fall already gives me anxiety, can’t imagine how they felt, the announcer was pretty annoying though, even though it’s water, you can still get hurt by falling from that height :/
This is the first time I've ever gone 5 minutes and 50 seconds without blinking.
