Looks great! Was just thinking to myself that's how I used to Saddle my horses back when I still had them and then ya said it. I'm gonna try and get another horse and mule this spring
Thanks! I miss my horse & mule.....but not the feed bill. I would like to get another too, but dang.....I'm too crippled up to trim feet or put shoes on anymore, and hay is sky high in price. I do miss them though, and the places we went. Good to see ya Brendon!
I really enjoyed watching you make this hat band. Looks really good. Appreciate you showing the details and knot style. Look forward to seeing your next leather projects. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Thanks! Good! I've got a few coming up. Need to try to get a few things made for the Horse & Mule sale, and try to catch up on stuff I have promised to other folks too. It's late now, 10:30 pm, but I hope you had a great day! Good night Garry. Give you wife a hug from me.
Thank you for this! We got rid of a great big copperhead in the yard and I'm going to make a hatband for my sister for christmas. This was super easy to follow and understand! Thank you!
Nice work. For someone like myself who has little experience with leatherwork it always amazes me to things made with it. You always make nice stuff. Good luck👍👍
Looks great, cool! One day I got a Gyurza (poisonous snake from the family of vipers, In the East, it received the nickname "Queen of Death.") skin, it crumbled to dust very quickly so I can imagine how troublesome it is to do a good job on snake skin. Thanks for sharing, have a nice day.
That is pretty neat. You are a man of many talents. I'm going to order some of that cement. It is good for many applications. Thanks & have a nice day.
You sir are pretty talented with that kind of work. Yes it helps to have acquired all the appropriate tools. You do damn good work, I'm impressed. Looks like a beaver felt hat, looks good lasts forever.
@@shermanbarnett6456 I have another guy with a big bowie knife that wants a sheath too. He wants a shoulder sling for his like Sam Elliot has in "The Quick and the Dead" Have you seen that movie? I think your knife would be a good one for that.
Good Morning! Thanks! I like the color of this one. My normal hat still has lots of life to it, but this one will be a dress up hat until the other wears out.
Good morning, I do a little leather work from time to time and always enjoy your videos. You may already know this, go to the hardware store and ask for acid brushes the kind plumbers use when soldering copper. They make great glue brushes and are very inexpensive I've been using them for years in contact cement. I watch your vidio every morning as I have my breakfast
Good Morning! I bought a brush for something not too long ago that was about like the one inside this can. Tin with black bristles? Bacon? I wonder if we have any left??
Good Morning to Ya! I admire your talent, Sir. Leather crafters, wood carvers, blacksmiths, all arts I've long admired, but have little talent for. Ya done Good!
@MuskratOutdoors Same, same here. Not a chance I could afford the custom touches I wanted on my rifles and shotguns, so I spent a lot of time pestering gunsmiths, doing chores, making coffee, running errands, sometimes running the counter, to learn how to shape, finish, and checker wood. How to add, or change recoil pads, repair cracked or busted stocks. Amazing how many rifles are in scabbard when horses fall on em. Got to where I was trading my wood working for metal work. Now, with the cataracts and neuropathy, the fine detail work is tough. Not impossible, just moves at "the speed of government ".
For this, anything from 5-10 ounce would work. It doesn't need to be thick, just kinda stiff like belt leather. A kid's belt would be about perfect. I mail order mine from Dubois Leather in Dubois Idaho, but it's a lot of money by the side. Try Tandy Leather maybe?
You said snakeskin isn't durable, but I followed some directions online to tan my rattlesnake skin and it came out flexible and stretchy, just like leather. Next snake you kill I suggest you soak the skin in 50/50 alcohol and glycerin for a week, it'll come out great. Haven't started my hat band yet but I'll follow your instructions
I have used that, and it works, but the glue doesn't stick to it as well because it's kind of greasy from the glycerin. Mostly the scales fall off is why it's not very durable. With a hat band, there isn't much to run on it though. Good luck with your hat band! I hope it turns out well, and would love to see a picture when it's done!
@@MuskratOutdoors I see how that could happen, the scales are falling off of my skin as well, but think the poor rattler was about to shed before I got him so that might be why. Thanks for the response!
Enjoyed the video brother, i was just given a 49 inch rattler i skinned it out what else do i need to do before making a hatband just tack it on a board and let it dry, i want to make one for my grandson hes fond of cowboy hats by the eay where did you get your hat and what kind is it i like it👍
GREAT! Thank you! Yep, just tack it out and dry it, or you can put it on the leather fresh and let it dry on the leather. Give it a good squirt of clear spray paint to help protect it from the weather, and give it some shine, and that's it. Super simple! The hat I think is a Resistall ? I shaped it myself.
OLD Leather Smith here, very nice especially the closure. I believe well-wood also as good as the other. I do a belt of KING COBRA Made about the same except I designed my own clouser. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️ 🥎 🙃
