- Making a Rattlesnake Hatband is easy to do and looks great. I've had several videos about it, but in this one, I used tent grommets instead of rings....makes it super easy! Other types of colorful snakes would also work. Why not make yourself one? If you do, please send me a picture!
Enjoy!
Looks great! Was just thinking to myself that's how I used to Saddle my horses back when I still had them and then ya said it. I'm gonna try and get another horse and mule this spring
Thanks! I miss my horse & mule.....but not the feed bill. I would like to get another too, but dang.....I'm too crippled up to trim feet or put shoes on anymore, and hay is sky high in price. I do miss them though, and the places we went. Good to see ya Brendon!
Very nice! Now I gotta go snake hunting without the weedeater. 😂
HA! Yeah, a weed whacker might mess them up some!
Thank you for this! I recently acquired a rattlesnake recently and wanted to make a hatband for my friends birthday, this really helps!
GREAT! Glad to hear it! It's pretty easy really. Good Luck!
I think this is among the best videos ever. I made my own and it came out beautiful. Thanks to you
GREAT! Happy to hear that!
great video. thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching too!
Looks great, cool! One day I got a Gyurza (poisonous snake from the family of vipers, In the East, it received the nickname "Queen of Death.") skin, it crumbled to dust very quickly so I can imagine how troublesome it is to do a good job on snake skin. Thanks for sharing, have a nice day.
Too bad! That would be really neat to have a hat band made from "The Queen of Death!"
Nice hat band ❤Have a great day ❤
Thank you! You too!
VERY NICE!
Thanks! GOOD MORNING!
Awesome! So cool. Have a boy here 13 inspired by your videos. Wants to make his own now. Love your hunting vids too.
GREAT!! Happy to hear that! He can do it!
Thank you for this! We got rid of a great big copperhead in the yard and I'm going to make a hatband for my sister for christmas. This was super easy to follow and understand! Thank you!
GOOD! I'm glad to hear that! It's easy to do, and looks great!
Good morning Gary, nice looking hat band.
Good Morning! Thanks!!!
Beautiful my friend !
THANKS!!
making my own Eastern Kingsnake hat band. thanks for the guide
COOL!
You sir are pretty talented with that kind of work. Yes it helps to have acquired all the appropriate tools. You do damn good work, I'm impressed. Looks like a beaver felt hat, looks good lasts forever.
Thank you! It is a beaver hat, or at least beaver blend? The one I normally wear is at least ten years old, and worn every day.
Good Morning Muskrat, Say that's very nice, I think I should have made a few ,over the years I've encountered a rattling snake a time or two 😅
Make one the next Buzzworm ya find! It's really pretty easy to do.
Leather work is such a nice art and you’re sure good at it. You would make a great instructor.
Thanks! I have taught 4H kids in the past.....they didn't listen real well though!
That was very cool! I live all the cool leather working tools you have! Thank you for sharing my friend!
Thanks Mark! Some are homemade!
Good morning, I do a little leather work from time to time and always enjoy your videos. You may already know this, go to the hardware store and ask for acid brushes the kind plumbers use when soldering copper. They make great glue brushes and are very inexpensive I've been using them for years in contact cement. I watch your vidio every morning as I have my breakfast
Good Morning! I bought a brush for something not too long ago that was about like the one inside this can. Tin with black bristles? Bacon? I wonder if we have any left??
Good Morning to Ya! I admire your talent, Sir. Leather crafters, wood carvers, blacksmiths, all arts I've long admired, but have little talent for. Ya done Good!
Good morning Darreld! I like making things, and do a lot of different things, but it's mostly because I can't afford to buy it!
@MuskratOutdoors Same, same here. Not a chance I could afford the custom touches I wanted on my rifles and shotguns, so I spent a lot of time pestering gunsmiths, doing chores, making coffee, running errands, sometimes running the counter, to learn how to shape, finish, and checker wood. How to add, or change recoil pads, repair cracked or busted stocks. Amazing how many rifles are in scabbard when horses fall on em. Got to where I was trading my wood working for metal work. Now, with the cataracts and neuropathy, the fine detail work is tough. Not impossible, just moves at "the speed of government ".
Good Morning 🌄
GOOD MORNING!!!
Good morning. Great job on that leather work. As always! Have a great day
Thanks Jon!!! A little cloudy today, but have a great day!
I really enjoyed watching you make this hat band. Looks really good. Appreciate you showing the details and knot style. Look forward to seeing your next leather projects. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Thank you! You too! They really aren't hard to make, and I like the way they look.
Great work and craftsmanship as always!
Thank you JR!
Very nice my friend! I enjoy these leather project videos! Heck of a nice looking hat band.
Have a good day!
Thanks! Good! I've got a few coming up. Need to try to get a few things made for the Horse & Mule sale, and try to catch up on stuff I have promised to other folks too. It's late now, 10:30 pm, but I hope you had a great day! Good night Garry. Give you wife a hug from me.
SWEET IT LOOKS AWESOME Gary👍🏻

Good morning!!! Nice job. Like the hat!
Good morning! Thank you! I like this hat too. It's kind on an uncommon color.
Very nice Gary - you're quite 'crafty'!
HA! Thank you!
Nice work. For someone like myself who has little experience with leatherwork it always amazes me to things made with it. You always make nice stuff. Good luck👍👍
Thank you very much! It's fun to do, I enjoy making things, but people have kind of taken the fun out of it.
Always wondered how those were made . Thanks and nice work !
It's actually pretty easy!
Beautiful work!👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
Thanks!
Good mornin ! Nice looking hat !
Good Morning! Thanks! I like the color of this one. My normal hat still has lots of life to it, but this one will be a dress up hat until the other wears out.
Good morning my friend
Good morning! Cloudy today....have a great day!
That is pretty neat. You are a man of many talents. I'm going to order some of that cement. It is good for many applications. Thanks & have a nice day.
Thanks! It's good stuff! A lot of hardware or feed stores carry it. Have a great day too!
Very nice work as usual!!! Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
Very nice! Thanks and have a great day!

Very nice job. THANKS I have a few snake skins laying around and I am going to try that for myself. Maybe I should find a hat first lolololol,
HA! Yeah, hind of need a hat to fit 'em! It's easy to do though, give it a try!

Hi Guys that was pretty neat seeing how that is done Good looking hat well You guys take care up there thanks for the video
Thank you Josh!
Looks good!
Thanks!!!!
Great job. And I love these kinda videos.
Thank you Sherman! I'm glad you like them, kinda stuck with a few for awhile. I need to get to your knife. That is sure a nice one!
@@MuskratOutdoors I'm in no hurry. But I can't wait to see what you come up with. Thank you very much again. I know your a busy man.
@@shermanbarnett6456 I have another guy with a big bowie knife that wants a sheath too. He wants a shoulder sling for his like Sam Elliot has in "The Quick and the Dead" Have you seen that movie? I think your knife would be a good one for that.
You said snakeskin isn't durable, but I followed some directions online to tan my rattlesnake skin and it came out flexible and stretchy, just like leather. Next snake you kill I suggest you soak the skin in 50/50 alcohol and glycerin for a week, it'll come out great. Haven't started my hat band yet but I'll follow your instructions
I have used that, and it works, but the glue doesn't stick to it as well because it's kind of greasy from the glycerin. Mostly the scales fall off is why it's not very durable. With a hat band, there isn't much to run on it though. Good luck with your hat band! I hope it turns out well, and would love to see a picture when it's done!
@@MuskratOutdoors I see how that could happen, the scales are falling off of my skin as well, but think the poor rattler was about to shed before I got him so that might be why. Thanks for the response!
@@astrotrek3534 Try spraying it with a clear coat spray paint. That should hold them on.
Man that’s nice
THANKS!!!
Another day above the grass! Awesome! Looks great and thanks for sharing.
Good morning! Thanks!
Learnt me something today 😜
HA! Thanks!
Really cool Gary 👍.🇺🇲🔪🔥🌲
Thank you! I like the way they look.
I have to say your video was great! I used your method and my band worked out great! 0:55
Fantastic! Glad to hear it! Thanks!
I used a belt from the thriftstore. We don't have a leather supply close by. It was a little thick, but my husband was ecstatic!
Heck, that would work! A leather strap is a leather strap!
Love it man that is good
Thank you!
very nice.
THANKS!
Very crude way to make a hat band.
I make them all the time that are adjustable. measured, stiched, with or witout rattles. I do like his stone table though.
mine are on Ebay to see.
HA! I bet mine outlast yours!
Mucho bueno!
Thanks!!
Looks pretty sharp!
Thanks! I like the way they look. I'm kinda surprised rattlesnake hat bands aren't more popular.
Enjoyed the video brother, i was just given a 49 inch rattler i skinned it out what else do i need to do before making a hatband just tack it on a board and let it dry, i want to make one for my grandson hes fond of cowboy hats by the eay where did you get your hat and what kind is it i like it👍
GREAT! Thank you! Yep, just tack it out and dry it, or you can put it on the leather fresh and let it dry on the leather. Give it a good squirt of clear spray paint to help protect it from the weather, and give it some shine, and that's it. Super simple! The hat I think is a Resistall ? I shaped it myself.
Gary I used glycerin and wood alcohol for snake skin it gave it some body have you ever tried it.
That works good. I've used that, or even anti-freeze. The glue doesn't stick to them as well though because they get kind of oily feeling.
What size of leather should I buy, and can I get in local stores or amazon?
For this, anything from 5-10 ounce would work. It doesn't need to be thick, just kinda stiff like belt leather. A kid's belt would be about perfect. I mail order mine from Dubois Leather in Dubois Idaho, but it's a lot of money by the side. Try Tandy Leather maybe?
Now just put a feather on the side and “ Presto “.
It does need a feather! I like those red flicker tail feathers. I find 'em now and then. This hat, a barn owl feather would match in color though.
Good morning fine sir 🌻
Good morning!!
Why is the tail end on the right hand side....
Dunno...I'm right handed? I've always had it on that side....why do you ask?
Good morning
Good Morning!
Mom ended up having a fall yesterday had to call ambulance she's home and ok right now had I not been helping she would have broke something
Damn Joe....not good. Glad you were there.
I would love one of those and a pistol holster for my highpoint c9 if you can do those, what does it cost? 👀🍀❤️🦌🫂✝️☝️
Holsters are hard if I don't have the gun to fit it. There's so many different types I haven't heard of. Sometimes I can borrow one if I don't have one. Depends on what you want on it really. I'm way behind, but send me an email, and maybe some pictures? I probably won't be able to it until mid-summer though. muskrat14@hotmail.com
@@MuskratOutdoors will do sir!
This man is the last of the living cowboys🫡 p.s do you sell those bands if so I’ll pay whatever your asking for one
I do! send me an email! muskrat14@hotmail.com
