I would give my right arm to see this soundtrack played live. It's been my MOST favorite soundtrack and movie since it came out when I was 13 or 14 yrs old. I was in love with it then and it remains THE BEST soundtrack EVER!!! So under rated in the mainstream movie world. I'm so glad they went with Basil and this style for the movie. The soundtrack made the movie in many respects. Yes, Crom is pleased :)
Yip, I feel you, I was 8 when it came out and fell in love instantely. Also quite unrecognized is, that James Horner took a lot from it for his braveheart-Soundtrack.
Basil's soundtrack to Conan is a masterpiece, the opinions of far more storied and knowledgeable friends than I. I saw Conan 7 nights in a row, when it was released.
The soundtrack is one of the main reasons I've re-watched this so many times! It really is so underrated as generally seems to be the case with movies scores. All people seem to notice are the visuals, when so many times it's the soundtrack that make or break movies on such a profound level > eg. would the end scene of Inception be as impactful and epic if it wasn't for Hans Zimmers "Time" playing in the background?
i love every aspect of the film but without Basils music it all would have been void of any soul! Basil went against the traditional grain and came up with the most epic music of all time, melting everyone that beholds it , this is the hammer of the gods and the magic of music written in his name.
Riders of Doom is the best motivational song ever. Doesn't matter what state of mind you're starting from, it makes you want to grab a sword and fight evil head on, while crying tears of joy.
I totally agree. Always picks me up.....get's me ready for battle.....or did, now it just pumps me up for a run or workout. We listened to this in our Humvee's in Iraq 07. Al Anbar Province.
The soundtrack to my childhood. One of my favorite movies of all time. I would watch it then go outside with a toy sword and pretend I was fighting Thulsa Dooms cronies
Too those who think there is too much cowbell... First it is called The Anvil of Crom, for a reason... Second, it is the representation of not only the protagonists struggle, but of the fantastical period where strife and struggle are as common as breath... 3rd CROM LAUGHS AT YOUR FOOLISH OPINION... Truly, he was a gifted man, and made the movies all the more richer with his ability. He took the gifted musicians, and their powers, forging their skill into a ballad epic worthy of accompanying Crom's mighty champion... May he rest in Valhalla as a skald forever.
Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And onto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!
So nice he got to do this just before joining Crom and finally accepted and realized the love and admiration that so many fans have for him and his music. What a Musical Legend, we love you Basil ☘️
It makes me wonder. He was Greek and now I see him wearing black,an old tradition in my country for those who mourn the loss of a loved one.He seems so fragile,so weak.Did he know?Did he know he was dying? What beautiful music he composed! His memory will live forever by his music through us!
It's quite possible he knew. He died of Cancer - with it, if you do not feel any pain or suffering during the treatment or taking drugs, it means the curing doesn't work. Basically a Death Sentence.
I did not know that black was a traditional garb worn by greeks to mourn the dead. Your comment really struck me. God bless. He was a great artist with an epic mind...
Joshua Torres Well, black clothes are mostly worn by close relatives of the departed, to show their mourning, and also to let attendants of the funeral know who the relatives of the deceased are, to offer condolences. A fading tradition is that widows in Greece wear black clothes for the rest of their lives. Fortunately you don't see this much, anymore, but every now and then, you might see a really old woman dressed in black, with a black scarf wrapped around their heads, like orthodox nuns. A bit morbid, if you ask me...
The men of my tribe were clean-shaven when this music burst upon the land. By the time the sun was low in the sky, they all had full beards. Basil Poledouris sits at Crom's side and smiles.
Only great minds in history could ever invent new ways of music.. A Bach, a Mozart.. And in a way basil belongs in this same street of geniuses.. Thank you for giving us the anvil of crom and Many more!
The only way I would have enjoyed the opening bit more is if somebody had spoken the first few words of the movie. "Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!" Goosebumps all around every time I hear this. Poledouris movie scores were genius. Even in sub-par movies they left the impression of an epic journey and managed to engage you emotionally to the end. A great, great artist. Thanks a lot for sharing this, and thanks to Basil Poledouris for composing the music he did.
Fire and wind come from the sky From the gods of the sky But crom is your god Crom and he lives in the earth Once giants lived in the earth conan and in the darkness of chaos they fooled crom and took from him the enigma of steel Crom was angered and the Earth shook Fire and wind struck down these giants And threw their bodies into the waters But in their rage the gods forgot the secret of steel And left if upon the battlefield And those who found it Are just men Not gods Not Giants Just Men The riddle of steel has always carried with it a mystery You must learn its riddle conan For no one can your trust Not Men Not Women Not beasts.... This you can trust.
This score is simply sublime! I have listened to this soundtrack hundreds of times. It never fails to move me, to make my hairs stand on end! R.I.P. Basil Poledouris, a musical genius taken too soon from us. We are grateful for the gifts you left us!
Listening to this after so long is literally giving me goosebumps. Id like too thank my mother for takin me to drive-in movie theater to watch this at 8 yrs old!
Hpw can this not have been voted the best sound track ever by so called experts for so many times that the term "light year" actually seems like somthing low in numbers. This is magic, poetry, brilliance and perfection! Amazing!!
cant believe this was the "only live show" given by Poledouris! im glad it was in Spain though!!!!! Conan was mainly filmed in Spain! i am half spanish after all! gracias por subirlo! thanx for uploading!
My among top 3 favorite movie soundtracks ever and Conan The Barbarian is still on of my favorite movies, despite not the best actor performances. A lot of time I play this melody in my mind or sing it
I can't believe I am watching this. I didn't even know this LEGENDARY composer was a director too. I am devastated by knowing he died in 2006. What a loss for the world of music... :(
Basil did such a great job on these works of art. Listen to these, Its erie. As if Conan Himself haunts you as you listen.Burning Stars of blue balefire stare you down as you are brought back to the Hyborian age.
Conan could even fight without his sword 🗡️,but not without this wonderful masterpiece! ❤️ Bravo to the Spanish orquestra from Andalucia and the missed unequalled Composer, I can not understand why he never won an OSCAR, doesn't matter, the academy didn't but the whole world did 🤗❤️
Everything he touched was graced with cataclysmic brilliance. Basil would have stood before Crom, and when asked "What is the riddle of steel?" He would have answered ... *stab*
This was awesome to watch live.. awesome in the movie.. awesome when I play it randomly.. just totally awesome. Great job sir..may you sit next to Crom and live the next afterlife in greatness
First of all, thank you a ton for posting these videos. My main hobby is collecting and researching "dramatic music", mostly movie scores. And there has never been, and I dare to say will never be any other score to top the music Basil made for Conan. Everything from the choice of instruments to just simpel things as pace, this is simply a rare masterpeice. Thank you again for posting.
Mr. Poledouris was a genius and its incredibly sad that he was taken from us so soon. His music will live on forever. Hope they use it in the next Conan film if and when it ever gets made. Like the music from Star Wars, some things should never be changed and will always stand the test of time.
THe movie itself is so extremely deep. I keep watching it since 25 years ago, and always find something new it tells me. Its not just a "visually stunning" action fantasy, its basically a journey trough life.

Basil Poledouris = King.
CROM!
Crom!
30 years later, Conan The Barbarian still has the one the best movie soundtracks of all time

I second that word for word (y)
vera1887 agreed. Whatever I'm doing in life I can probably accompany it with something from this amazing score
Basil Poledouris, may your name and music live forever, just like those of Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi.
And Ennio Moricone.
especially for Conan and Robocop
He does in my book😊
Estoy de acuerdo buena peli de aventuras gran banda sonra😅😅❤😅🎉🎉🎉😢😢😢
One of the best examples of the soundtrack making the movie, Arnold owes a great debt to Basil
i love every aspect of the film but without Basils music it all would have been void of any soul!
Basil went against the traditional grain and came up with the most epic music of all time, melting everyone that beholds it , this is the hammer of the gods and the magic of music written in his name.
Nope, if it wasn't for Arnold lifting all those weights and getting built there would be no Conan, no Jody Samson,no Basil Poledouris,no John Milius.
@@rottvang Nope. You are wrong. It takes teamwork. Without the genius music. I don't think we would be talking about the great Arnold
It s a good movie, soundtrack just make it better...
The master himself conducting. Gives me damn goosebumps!!
Riders of Doom is the best motivational song ever. Doesn't matter what state of mind you're starting from, it makes you want to grab a sword and fight evil head on, while crying tears of joy.

very true.
...and roaring, "CROM!!", as you jump into the fray and begin your slaughter!
The soundtrack to my childhood. One of my favorite movies of all time. I would watch it then go outside with a toy sword and pretend I was fighting Thulsa Dooms cronies
Anvil of Crom does that for me
Too those who think there is too much cowbell... First it is called The Anvil of Crom, for a reason... I gotta have more cowbell!
Waay too much. The guy who mixed the movie did the right thing.
Yep, but in the movie I don't recall it being so noticeable on the cow-bell.
Odin preside over Valhalla not puny crom !
ANVIL.
and to think that this movie was originally going to have a pop music soundtrack, THANK GOD THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, there is indeed justice in this world
Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. Unquestionably one of the Greatest Movie Soundtracks of All-Time
Crom would agree.....
So nice he got to do this just before joining Crom and finally accepted and realized the love and admiration that so many fans have for him and his music. What a Musical Legend, we love you Basil ☘️
Sadly, he was a criminally underrated great! Easily on par with John Williams and Ennio Marricone.
Completamente de acuerdo 😔😔😔
Best film score past, present, and forever! IT HAS NO EQUAL!
Crom approves your post.
I just can't find the orchestral score? It's just that good, and I want to read the music…
Crom maybe allowed himself a shallow undersmile, while he heard the Basil´s work first time, but only for a short moment.
@@sirpauljohn4763 w
There are other scores just as good. I can think of jaws, the omen and star wars. I agree that you can't get much better than this one.
RIP Basil Poledouris your music will be remembered and will echo through out the centuries to come!
a true masterpiece from a true music genius...this pleases CROM......
This music will live forever !!!
Hail Basil !!!
Hail Conan !!!
This music fitted the movie perfectly. I've listened to these tracks since I was a kid, copying Conan's moves with my toy sword.
It makes me wonder. He was Greek and now I see him wearing black,an old tradition in my country for those who mourn the loss of a loved one.He seems so fragile,so weak.Did he know?Did he know he was dying?

Hands up!
veilofreality up you mean
Last of the mohicans and scarface are good as well but conan takes the cake
I don't think we'd have the theme of Isengard without this piece.
The men of my tribe were clean-shaven when this music burst upon the land. By the time the sun was low in the sky, they all had full beards.
Basil Poledouris sits at Crom's side and smiles.
This is WARRIOR/SOLDIER music....nothing pumps up the soul like this ready for combat.
I want it for trucking!
His music will live on for eternity!

one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard
Anvil of crom is just pure heavy artillery with that metal on metal sound
The only way I would have enjoyed the opening bit more is if somebody had spoken the first few words of the movie. "Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!" Goosebumps all around every time I hear this.

What is best in life and the prayer to Crom. Are words to live and if needed, to DIE BY.
This is far beyond a movie soundtrack, this is a classic that should be taught at the academy!
Great Basil Podelouris, R.I.P. His music was better then the movies 😊
Phenomenal music soundtrack. Absolute genius on his part
So much of his heart and soul went into these masterpieces.
Did he have a soul?
One of the most inspiring soundtracks ever created.
Fire and wind come from the sky
From the gods of the sky
But crom is your god
Crom and he lives in the earth
Once giants lived in the earth conan
and in the darkness of chaos they fooled crom
and took from him the enigma of steel
Crom was angered and the Earth shook
Fire and wind struck down these giants
And threw their bodies into the waters
But in their rage the gods forgot the secret of steel
And left if upon the battlefield
And those who found it
Are just men
Not gods
Not Giants
Just Men
The riddle of steel has always carried with it a mystery
You must learn its riddle conan
For no one can your trust
Not Men
Not Women
Not beasts.... This you can trust.
Long live Conan!! And this beautiful soundtrack!! Thank you very much Mr Poledouris.

this is one of the finest pieces of music of all time rest in piece Basil.
Mr. Poledouris did what the ancient Romans called Res Gestae - things done. He did great things writing and playing his music.
Big respect to everyone in that orchestra ❤️👊🤗❤️👊
I seek out every version of Basil's work. Perhaps my favorite film score ever! May he rest in peace.
Basil Poledouris will always be alive within his great music.
