    What's you're browser setup and why? Leave a comment here, and if you're looking for the best overall alternative to Chrome, I recommend Brave (it's free, this is not sponsored): www.brave.com

      I can’t get enough of the Brave browser. It’s also important to note how Brave generates revenue. They also show ads, but they are not targeted and the user can choose how many ads are allowed to show per hour. However, the more ads you allow, the more revenue Brave passes onto you as crypto currency. It’s honestly the coolest piece of software I daily drive.

      @Shizune Hakamichi not true. Brave has ties to Google removed. Also blocks some ads and pop ups on install by default. Latest version also will auto answer the “do you want to accept cookies for this site” if you chose for it to do so. So no, while Brave is built off of Chromium, it’s not the same, and offers better protection out of the box. Is it perfect, no, but it’s safer to use than Chrome for the average user

    • @LunarUmi
      @LunarUmi Год назад +1

      @@zigzagintrusion There are two main reasons I'm starting to move away from anything Google in my life. Firstly, privacy. It's become more and more apparent that the most important thing to Google is user metrics and selling that data. So if you care about your internet footprint even a little, I'd recommend looking else where. Second, this is conjecture on my part, but I'd imagine that most of Google's profits are coming from ad revenue, and as such, they're starting to push towards an internet that has a ton of ads. I.E, look into Manifest V3, which is set to come out in January. In essence, they're heavily kneecapping the support for ad blockers and add-on support in general. Which, to me are absolutely vital to traverse the web at all at this point. That's why the only options are Firefox and Safari, because all other browsers are about to lose a significant amount of control with the reduction of developer functions in the new Manifest V3 landscape. Not just for ad blockers.
      I'm interested to hear that you found Firefox was slow! As a developer that cares a lot about getting the best experience, I just switched over a couple of months ago, and I've been monitoring my performance with it, and I've only been *more* happy with it than Chrome. I've found that generally the RAM usage is reduced, and everything feels more snappy. I would have this terrible thing with Chrome where once the browser was running for about a week, scrolling through a webpage would have massive framerate lag. That hasn't happened with Firefox yet.

    • @zigzagintrusion
      @zigzagintrusion Год назад +2

      @@LunarUmi Yeah, Google products have been turning me off more and more.
      Admittedly, I did not use Firefox for very long, but webpages took a few seconds longer to load than Chrome. A few seconds isn't a lot, but I am super impatient so it was bothering me. One of the main reasons I disliked Firefox was because certain websites didn't function properly. The only example I can think of right now is Reddit, and to be fair, I think that's an issue on Reddit's part, but it was still a bit annoying. After reading your comment, I think I'll go ahead and try it again. Maybe my internet was just having a bad day.

I HIGHLY recommend Firefox to my clients. As for it's supposed lack of privacy settings, it's far better than Chrome or Edge, and probably Safari as well. As for Brave, the company behind it and it's founder especially have had controversies that call into question whether the browser actually does what it says. Unless you have something to hide, I have not seen a reason for hardening Firefox beyond its defaults, and actually haven't seen or heard of the hardening guides mentioned. Perhaps a more in-depth video on this would be in order. I use a niche browser called falkon for watching videos (like youtube) and firefox for everything else
    falkon is super lightweight and can even lighten the load of the heaviest websites like youtube and firefox has all the modern JS features that allow a modern website to work properly

    Also, is the only reason to switch from chrome is cuz 'big brother' is watching? Or are there any security risks associated as well?
    Thanks :)

    On Mac and on Phone it is Duck Duck Go (Because of ad and tracker blockers and most of the common Web API allowed in chrome will not even work in Duck Duck Go), on Windows, it is Brave (because no version of Duck Duck Go on Windows found).

    I use browser isolation. Firefox logged into Google services, for RUclips and Google searches . I use Brave for mostly everything else, not logged into any Google services. This is to minimize tracking by Google. Ublock Origin as adblocker. Bitwarden as password manager. De-activated "offer to save passwords" in both browsers to minimize the risk of password leakage in the browsers. I do not use FB, Insta, Twitter or any other "social media" other than RUclips.

    I tried to go to Firefox and found it pretty user-friendly - HOWEVER - I ran into a glitz that I couldn't overcome, and it's a matter of how I like to keep my desktop and files.
    I like to use icons and even create icons for some of my unusual files. Such as a Christmas Music File that I make my own ICONS to identify songs in a shortcut from my desktop.
    With Firefox, the icons I have made or downloaded from a free ICO site are covered with the Firefox logo. That defeats the method I like, and I can't find a way to get the ICO I made to appear. So I have returned to Google
    I know that sounds a bit goofy, but it's what I like to do.

Recently I reinstalled Chrome, (NOT default) back because the family wanted to do a video chat on Facebook Messenger on my laptop so we could all fit in the video frame vs a phone...the only browsers that supports this feature are Chrome, MS Edge and Opera....try a VPN with no logging also, but be careful which one you choose!

    Granted, Bromite can be a bit slow on the updates.

    I thought you were going to give me reasons to stop using Chrome. The answer is that I can't fine tune the security and Chrome does ad tracking. So? Someone knows what web sites I visit, can sell details of my browsing and can target ads directly back to me. If you're tracking me as a single person, then I have a problem with that. If I'm 1 out of billions of users, then my browsing history is nothing more than a statistic. You failed to convince me that it's bad. And if you just throw generic terms like 'privacy' and 'security' but you don't provide details how this can harm me then your just another alarmist--there are too many alarmists out there and there's so much of it, it's simply white noise.
