Yeah! I wasn't actually particularly familiar with her music when I sampled her cover for this, but I was pleasantly surprised she had some rock-ish songs (Six Feet Under is one if I remember correctly. It almost gave me Polyphia vibes)
Aw, thanks! I really appreciate it. It may not have thousands of views, but I was kinda surprised to see that it seems to be getting a ton of traction relative to my other posts! Yeah, that would have been a good idea. This ultimately came out of what I was doing when I was just sort of noodling along with the original track. If I had known 10,000 people would end up listening to this, I would have put some more thought in 😅
Yeah, if I could go back and adjust things, I'd definitely add more layers of synths and more lead guitar parts. I agree that it does feel like something is missing in parts!

Thank you so much! The primary inspiration for the metal aspects here were Children Of Bodom (Needled 24/7) and Strapping Young Lad (Detox). Detox was one song that seemed like it thematically was hitting on some of the same themes as Internet Yamero. "I was warned / Absolutely Numb / No good around people / Everyone knows and watches me" I have this idea kicking around at the back of my mind of somehow tying together something from the NSO soundtrack with the song "Angels Don't Kill" by Children of Bodom, because there's a one hell of a thematic overlap there. I have a similar re-orchestration of "Internet Angel" on my Soundcloud, and I've been working on putting together a version of "Desire For Approval", so that may eventually see the light of day. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🙏 BLESS🙏
This has somewhere around 300 times the number of views as my other uploads, so I'm certainly not complaining! I'm just glad people enjoy it. 🙏 BLESS 🙏
I'd love to, the only problem is that I don't actually have official permission to sample Calliope Mori's vocals. I may put out another version with a refined mix and my own male vocals, but I'd be a bit worried about getting in trouble for the sampling. It's something I'll seriously look into though!
@@LucasAngeloMusic Please do! Would love to see another version! :) I just read some of the criticism in the comment section, I just wanted to say It's not easy to switch genres and you clearly murdered the instruments. Keep doing you Lucas!
which lack in this version, that's hard bass like 1:21 - 1:50 or 2:12 - 2:22, if convert to metal, it should be use blast beat or gravity blast beat to make it go harder as hard bass, and need some death metal vocal for more intension, and the important part that it missing electronic effect, synth sound, many sound effect miss make it like a totally different song
I agree, actually, specifically regarding the synth sounds. The ending sounds chaotic, but its missing the lead line. If I could go back and redo this, I'd definitely have lead guitars doubled with a synth playing the main theme at the end. I've been pretty candid that this was something I put together in a night, so there are a lot of things I look back at and wish I did differently. Getting constructive feedback like this means just as much to me as all the comments saying how they love what I did, since it means I know what to work on next time!
Regarding having some Death Metal vocals, that's something I've considered too. Currently I have a plan to redo this, doing one version with my own vocals doing the English lyrics, and another version with the original Japanese. For the version with my own vocals, I'd definitely do the "Haters are irrelevant, Gachikoi are whatever" verse with harsh vocals
@@LucasAngeloMusic In my opinion, use the orginial KOTOKO Japan vocal for keep the main theme, you know, missed her voice is something make this song feel weird xD, and especially, if you're male, you should use Death metal vocal entire song, clean voice or high tone Power Metal voice will make it sound cringe, I think About the chaotic ending you can refer to Infant Annihilator, at recent, you did gravity blast beat, it's ok but sound out of rhythm, not match, even it chaotic but still go in line, riff guitar need to do something, or lead guitar do some swipe solo. Or you can refer to Raining Blood ending of Slayer, too Because original song main genre is electronic music, so you can't miss electronic sound, synth sound, and it's true. Remember make sure it volume also loud, it's main and also background
If I can figure out how to get in touch with Mori Calliope and Aiobahn to get their permission, then for sure! Otherwise I'm a little unsure on the copyright situation. I could try to upload it and see if I get any trouble (i.e ask for forgiveness rather than permission). This video hasn't been copyright flagged, so it doesn't look like either of them have this registered with any content-ID algorithms.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm not about that whole "maximize views" game, but if you give the video a like, it'll help the algorithm suggest it to other people who may like it. Also, give my other videos a watch if you're curious, and make sure to sub if you want to see what I post next. I have a cover of the Future Diary OP1 on the way, as well as another song from the NSO soundtrack.
Thanks! Yeah, I can see what you mean regarding that drop. As maddening as it is to realize something I want to go back and fix, I had no idea this song would end up being my most popular post. I put it together in one night and posted at like 3am 😅 My main focus was basically seeing if the idea works; combining the sort of super-aggressive 8-string chugs with the hyper-pop vocals without making it sound like your typical "x but djent" cover track. Now my goal is to see if I can do some originals in this kind of style.
I was thinking about at least doing the part that everyone is making meme variations of, "Internet is fucking awesome!" into the last chorus. I'd have Calliope doing the "SickTok" dance like in the original, surrounded by a headbanging metal band ala Dethklok. Either that, or I'll make a VTuber version of myself. I'm not doing the whole "faceless artist" thing since I show my face in my other uploads, but I do kinda like the idea of having a cartoon mascot to use if I don't feel like making my room decently presentable. The only problem is that I have no artistic ability and no money to commission an artist (hence why the art here was AI generated)
I honestly didn't like Mori's rendition, I don't like a lot of covers for this song, but this version makes it so I like it so much more. It's so much better here
Thanks! That really means a lot to me. There are still things I wish I could adjust (God damn the synth at the end is too low in the mix) but one thing I was pleasantly surprised by was how unique my version ended up sounding when compared to the original or Mori's cover. My guitar parts and everything came directly from trying to transcribe the original music, with a couple of flourishes, but it ended up sounding almost like a completely different song. I guess that just shows how much of an impact production has... now I guess I should try taking a metal song and transforming it in the opposite direction.
That intro lick gave me flashbacks to a song I haven't heard in forever. Was it based off of Where The Wild Wind Blows by Iron Maiden or am I imagining things?
If there is some inspiration from Iron Maiden, that would have been on the part of Aiobahn, the original producer. I just transcribed the synth melody to guitar with a few flourishes. I was personally trying to channel Children of Bodom, but the melody itself does have a vague resemblance to the lead line from Aces High depending on how hard you squint.
To be fair, that was kind of what I was going for. Since the original song is a completely synthesized, hard-style-ish pop song, my goal was to keep some of that EVERYTHING AT MAXIMUM VELOCITY ALL OF THE TIME feeling while moving it to an industrial metal-ish feel. The vibe I was going for was roughly like City/Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing-era Strapping Young Lad with an anime girl doing the vocals. For that kind of maximalist style, I wasn't really trying to program drums that are physically possible. If it stands out as sounding unrealistic rather than like a purposeful choice though, I may have missed the mark. Either way, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! edit: Is that Kaguya?
is pretty good, but there's not enough guitar i think. Without guitar is like the bass don't feel that powerful... And i also prefer the japanese vocals. i love the bass
I appreciate the feedback! I definitely have things I would fix if I had the chance to redo this. If I had known this was going to start getting views, I would have finalized the mix the next morning at least, rather than uploading at 3am! Regarding the vocals, fair enough. I love the original and definitely prefer the original vocals on the original song, but the English is completely intertwined with how I hear my version of the song. I have a rough mix where I performed the vocals just to see if I could pull it off (it's in my archives as the "P-Chan Mix" 😅) Maybe I'll upload a new mix in the future with my vocals in Japanese if I can get the pronunciation down. I'd definitely prefer to have a version without any samples, if possible. I don't know how many of these views are because I'm in the feed of people who follow Calliope Mori, but I didn't actually get permission to sample her vocals track, so this upload could get nuked at any time ☠️. Regarding the guitar and bass, the bass synth was sampled directly from the original song, but the guitar is all on an 8-string, and since the song is in G minor, when I'm chugging along the low notes I'm in the same octave as the bass line. That choice may have led to the bass feeling less powerful than it could have. Overall though, thanks for the listen, and I really appreciate the feedback!
Guitar tracks here are all me. There's a little bit of studio trickery on the sweep arpeggios in the lead up to "Let's all quit the internet!", but otherwise it's all unaltered performance. The only upload I have with a VST guitar track is _relic_, everything else I've posted is with my own guitar playing.
I'll have to double check which amp sim I was running for this, but the guitar track was on an Ibanez RG8 in F# standard. I use amp sims rather than trying to mic up an amp when I record. For this, it was probably either EZMix2 or Amplitube 5.
Valid. In my Ableton project for this, I actually have the Japanese vocals aligned as well, but I personally preferred the English version since it made the end product sound more like the English language rock and metal that inspired my version. Maybe I'll get around to polishing up some of the things I wasn't happy with and release a new version with the original vocals.
