  • In this video, I'll show you a build my wife and I did of a simple 8-foot x 8-foot x 12 inches sandbox for our kids. They love it and have spent every day in it for the past week since we built it.
Simple, yet durable and fun sandbox build that is 8 feet x 8 feet x 12 inches high. Do you want to know how to build a sandbox? Or maybe you are way more knowledgeable than I am about building things and you're just looking for ideas?
I'll walk you through how we built the sandbox and what materials are needed.
I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments. We're thinking about adding corner 2x6's to sit on, a roof, a sandbox cover, and maybe other features. You can do a lot with the 2x12 boards.
    Materials:
    2x12x8 Redwood lumber: www.lowes.com/...
Play sand (packaging looks different but it's the 50lb bags): www.lowes.com/...
    Landscape Fabric: www.lowes.com/...
    Inside corner brackets: www.lowes.com/...

Nice! We've had this all summer now with our two kids and it's been all I hoped it would be. The corner seats we're actually really glad we added some corner seats to it as well, as you can see in this video: ruclips.net/video/7Oj3se58m3M/видео.html.

Have you had any bug or pest problems? That has been my only concern about an in-ground sandbox

The only thing I've noticed is every now and then I have to clean up a small spider web from under the seats. Other than that, nothing.

This video is extremely helpful in understanding the application of non-woven geotextiles. We respectfully request permission to distribute this video to fellow landscapers as an educational resource. Thanks

Do you know that Lowe’s sells a 900 pound forklift bag of sand for $60 right then deliver it for $20

Wow that is amazing. I had no idea. That would be a great way to do this!

    Hello
This looks great, i want to make something like this for my two children. I you put down the landscape fabric, why was this needed? Mine will be going on a concrete street so would I need that fabric?

Meant to say.... *I see you put down*

Sorry for this delay...may not be relevant any longer. I did it as a barrier between the dirt and the sand, and also to keep the sand in the box and from leaking out the bottom of the frame. On cement I don't think you'd need it, you'd just need to probably have some way to keep the sand from flowing out the bottom if the frame gets shifted.

Just curious how far you dug down ? And what did you use to remove the dirt? Just a shovel?

Yeah, just a shovel. I dug down maybe 2-4 inches total, just enough to make the area flat. Not much, really. One side of the sandbox had a bit higher elevation with the yard, so I dug that side down more. But the goal was that the sandbox could sit into the ground and not be able to shift around, so 2+ inches did that for me.

I should add...I also used a pickaxe to break up some dirt, then the shovel to remove the dirt.

Hey there, looks great! I'm wondering if you have made a lid for it? And if so what materials did you use?

Hey, @stud538. We haven't gotten around to creating a lid as of yet, actually. We're thinking maybe just a tarp temporarily, but we've been leaving it uncovered for now. We don't have any pets and our back yard is fenced so we haven't had any issues with animal poo yet.
      I'd love any suggestions.
