A few weeks ago I didn’t think I’d be someone who listens to knitting podcasts and knits socks, but then I discovered your IG and became OBSESSED with the idea of making beautiful socks!! So here I am listening to your knitting podcast and knitting my first pair of I’m So Basic socks (the most high quality pattern I’ve seen!) with about 20 tabs open to hand dyed yarns. Thank you for inspiring me and making me laugh :) can’t wait for more!

Hello Summer! Your podcast is so, so good. The perfect balance of beautiful knitting, yarn and hilarious stories. My Dad is a loud jokester, has a story about EVERYTHING under the sun, and makes friends everywhere he goes. He still keeps family life interesting to say the least. I learned to drive in a '69 Pontiac LeMans, it was a classic and drove 30mph without putting your foot on the gas pedal. Even though we lived in the suburbs, our town before the build up was mostly country roads and we used to have good talks when I learned to drive. Anyway, happy knitting! Ingrid

It’s a great day when there’s a new podcast! Loved seeing your new yarn! Nothing better than a good mail day/yarn shop splurge. My dad was a motorcycle policeman for 25 years - and one year I was walking downtown, on my way to a reading at Powell’s Bookstore when I hear the loud chirp/whooooop of a police siren. I look over to see what the fuss is and there’s Dad, pulling up next to me on the sidewalk, asking me what I thought I was doing walking around town in the evening by myself?? I was like 33 years old, for heaven’s sake. Everyone else walking along started giving me the eye as I turned three shades of red. Um, overprotective much, Dad?? 😆

Your stories make me smile... as do your gorgeous socks. My dad is so calm, though his dad was a character so maybe that was his way to cope! When I was a teenager my grandad came to collect me from the quiet village pub where I was working dressed in lederhosen and bright red long socks. He was not of German descent, nor was he wearing them for an occasion, this was just part of his day to day wear...

My dad in the '80s adored those athletic tube socks (with stripes of course!). One Saturday we're going to a casual party, nothing fancy and my dad decides to wear his tube socks with Bermuda shorts and LEATHER business style loafers😫😫😫😫 I said: dad you look like Cristopher Columbus hahahahahahahah. From then on every time I see an image of Columbus I remember that day! by the way, my dad went to the party without changing hahahahahah I love my dad! Thanks for your podcast, it's fantastic!

I get the dad face thing. Growing up my dad was always stressed and got frequent migraines and the one thing you didn't do was make him mad. He wasn't abusive at all, but the face he made was very scary. After he retired he calmed down so much that he's a completely different person! And no more migraines! Also, I'm in the Pacific Northwest and you are very welcome here if you ever want to move. :)

I really enjoyed your dad story!
I absolutely loved my dad, he was the cool parent, stay-at-home dad who braided my long hair every single day before school.
Once I decided to play hairdresser and cut my own hair by bending over and cutting my hair in one (almost) straight line. It didn’t work and I ended up with really bad hair 😂 I was so scared to tell my parents, so I put on a beanie and went to bed (it was winter, so they believed me when I said I was cold). I couldn’t sleep that night because of the guilt and the fear that all the kids at school would laugh at me the next day, so I wrote my dad a long letter apologizing for my stupid attempt to cut my hair. He came straight away after reading it and demanded to see my hair. I took my beanie off and much to my surprise, he started to laugh so hard! Then he sat me down and proceeded to cut my hair properly. Fortunately, cutting hair is one of his many creative talents 😉 he was a little disappointed in me because he loved my long hair, but luckily it grew back and I swore to never cut my hair myself ever again 😂

I just subscribed because of your dad (yeah, I know this is an older video- doesn't matter)
So, cars and dads... When I went to take my driving test in Texas, I owned a full sized 1974 Chevy Impala station wagon. To pass the test, you have to be able to parallel park in less than 20 ft, so I borrowed my dad's car because his car was 5 ft shorter than mine. Then during the test, I had to admit I didn't know how to parallel park because my car wouldn't fit. The trooper laughed as I told him I'd borrowed my dad's car and very kindly taught me how to parallel park and passed me anyway.

Such a great video. Put your mermaid sock pattern in my favs on Ravelry, really love and want to make those. The whole time you’re talking about your dad I’m thinking I hope he doesn’t watch this bc he’s gonna be mad.. lol.. My dad was the same way when I was growing up. We had 5 kids in my family so as you can imagine my dad was always working but when he was home we needed to be quiet and be good. And he always looked exhausted and crabby. But now he’s retired and chill.
I got in an accident at 15 with only my permit, I decided after washing my dads car I’d drive it around the block to dry...what was I thinking?! Stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream along the way bc why not and hit a car in the parking lot. I left the scene bc I was scared but someone in the parking lot got my license plate number and called the police. When I got home they had already called my dad and he brought me to the police station which at the time I thought was abusive. Now I look back and wonder what was I thinking in my know it all mind?! Lol.

COVID vacation fail? ME TOO! We had a full week secluded rental in December, overlooking the water. Had car trouble right before our departure. We decided to be patient for the repair, which cost us HALF of the scheduled days away. Hubby was livid, and he was also disappointed that I talked him out of renting a car. How was I supposed to know the dealership wasn't motivated to get the job done?

Here is my "chilled" salad date. My first date with C was so funny to me. He wanted to make such a good impression that he decided to make dinner for us. So he picks me up and we go to his house. (He lives with his mother. We were 18 at the time). So I'm sitting at the table with the lights down and music. He says we will have a chilled salad for our first course. So I watch him go to the freezer section of the refrigerator and pull out two plates with frozen lettuce on it. It was so gross I began to laugh a little. I said that if you want to chill a salad, it needs to be in the fridge, not the freezer. He was embarrassed. We are still good friends to this day. And when I ask him about chilled salad, he shakes his head and says let's not talk about it. Next time I'll tell you about his time with the police and me. Great show by the way

My ravelry notes say I finished the first in two days...I just finished the second about a month ago, 8 years after I started the first one! It was not very good haha. 😅 My dad is one of those people who can sit next to a stranger at a baseball game and have their whole life story by the third inning. Hanging out with you was a great way to start my weekend. Already love your dad. I hope one day you can have him guest star on your podcast. Maybe you can even teach him to knit and he can cohost -lol, Love the gorgeous yarn,-especially the purples- I'm a purple girl all the way! I have kept special skeins for years- and I got a lot of enjoyment from just looking at them and picking them up from time to time. When I finally knit up one of my all time favorite skeins of hand dyed yarn, I choose to knit vanilla socks with it - and let me tell you - I LOVED the relaxing and colorful knitting experience, and I actually get excited everytime I get to wear them because the colors make me so happy. So don't be afraid to keep and enjoy special skeins, and don't be afraid to knit something easy and fun with them. I got a lot of bang for my buck with that $28 dollar skein!

I’m new to your podcast, and I love it! I also have a knitting and sewing podcast, and I also love knitting socks. I just bought your new pattern, and can’t wait to give it a try! Here’s my issue- I’m a very loose knitter. For sweaters, I generally only have to go down one needle size and I’m good. Socks, though are a different story! I just bought 1.75mm needles, after using 2.0mm for ages, and wondering if the smaller needles would help. I saw that in your free sock pattern that the gauge is 40st./10cm. With the 1.75mm I get 28st/10 cm. How should I adjust? All of my socks, though beautiful, are all “over socks”. I have yet to make a set that I feel I could really wear in my shoes. Thoughts?? I’d appreciate your help!

My dad sounds a lot like yours. A burly, kinda intimidating kinda guy. I grew up in North Dakota, which sounds a lot like Oklahoma. My dad was an over the road trucker so he was gone for long stints of time, and we too had to be very quiet when he was home so that he could get his sleep during odd hours of the day. He has this way of saying some of the funniest things without meaning to. Back then, there were no cell phones, only a house phone. I never wanted him to answer it. In middle school and high school he taught it funny to answer "Your dime go ahead." And then he would say "She just left to go to the river to get a load of hay." Another one of his sayings is that" ND is not the end of the world, but you can see it from there." These may not be some of his funniest, but ones I can repeat in public :)

I totally wore the Jncos!!! It was my favorite jeans in high school! Also a friend of mine totally stole from Walmart a BB gun in hers! She just slid it down one pant leg.

Is your friend from Oklahoma?! Because stealing a BB gun from Walmart in your JNCO jeans is quite possibly the most Oklahoma thing EVER 😂😂😂😂

If you like ChiaoGoo needles for magic loop, you might want to look into the "Twist Shorties" set. They are minis and have two needles lengths-2" & 3" that you could put different lengths on the short cables (comes with 5", 6" and 8"). I'm going to try it but I'm a magic loop person too. Thanks for a great podcast. Do you knit anything besides socks?

Am enjoying your podcasts very much. The addi easy sock...question...does it not come in a size 1? I went to your link and found everything but that size!

Hi Summer. Can you just mix and match all fingering weight sockyarns I one project? Although they can vary in meters per 100 grams? Thanks!

Obsessed with your T-shirt collection! They're so good every time! I am soooo excited for the little black sock pattern to come out! I've been too afraid to try cables but I know you will explain perfectly and I might have a chance! 🤣Will cable needles be necessary? Also- I tried to date a boy in jnco jeans and my daddy promptly put his foot down! 😅😅😂😂

No cable needles necessary! I just use a double pointed needle! And I LIVE in t-shirts, so I always try to order good ones! Also, your dad was super smart to put his foot down on jnco boy 😂

Hi I’m Jen from mars, pa...I found your podcast from Melissa from the Encourage Better knitting podcast...Do you watch the Knitty Natty podcast? She is a knitter from Texas and one of her LYS is McKinney Knittery and one of her latest videos is yarn shopping at that store. Glad I found your podcast!

On the subject of special yarn, do you tend to just buy one skein, or do you buy a larger quantity? I a,m always on the fence about how much to buy!

Do you ever knit your socks two at a time or toe up? I love sock knitting but prefer toe up and two at a time magic loop though I have also done cuff down.

Any tips for hand winding yarn? I've just purchased my first skeins and I've made horrible knotted messes . . .

    • @summerleedesignco.6471
      @summerleedesignco.6471  4 года назад

Here’s how I do it! First, unwind the skein and snip all the ties. Then sit on your couch or a chair (pretty close to the edge) with your feet planted on the floor. Drape the skein around your knees, and then wind into a ball!

Lol.
