Even when they moved into the post-season his senior year, Red wondered if once the Sycamores lost, he would consider coming and finishing out the 1978-79 season with the Celtics. Bird took a bit of umbrage at the question because HE wasn't planning on losing. And they didn't all the way to the Championship. Then, after that, Red proposed again that he come to finish out the Celtics season. Bird said, Nope, I have to do my student teaching requirement to get my diploma. And that's what he did.
Thanks for sharing the video 👍 I have to say I LOVED that you went back to relisten to be sure you understood what they were telling us. LOVED. ☘️ Larry Legend for ALL of the reasons.
Finally got to watch the whole thing and it's awesome. I also watched a video of his high school coach talking about him breaking his ankle in two places and tearing all the ligaments in in his sophomore year. Still showed up for every practice.
My nf friend!! I loved it I’m about to go see if you’ve done part 2 yet. I’m 45 and played this game my whole entire life until my car accident last year that left me bedridden and struggling to walk again but my point is I can tell reactors that play the game and love it because I watch y’all to say to myself would he make a good teammate and your only the second person I’ve seen that I’d like to play with on the courts!
His Mom didn't speak to him for two months because he walked away from a full scholarship at IU. I mean WHO before him had such an opportunity to play for a major basketball powerhouse before Larry. From French Lick of all places? Nobody! That's why his Mom refused to talk to him. But he felt overwhelmed at such a big place and perhaps she did not realize how he felt because of that.
Bird also felt really out of place! Here are all these kids come from families that had more money ...nice clothes & here he maybe had couple pairs jeans and a pair of overalls and some T-shirts. He didn't have funds for nice wardrobe like the other kids did! Felt very out of place & some of the older guys were trying to bully him ...push him around and the coach was no help at all!
@@Sunny-jz3dy - YUP! That was exactly it but I'm still kinda glad it turned out how it did at ISU. I've seen some of his college games, entire games including one of his last in his Senior year when the 3- pt line was introduced the same year he entered the league. I wanna say against DePaul but it's been awhile since I watched it again. I grew up watching him play and only heard snatches of his name before he signed with Boston. Sigh... Damn, it was SUCH awesome ball! 😀👍
I already loved your Ren reactions on your other channel, today i find out you have a solo channel and react to Larry! Thanks for the entertainment! Looking forward to part 2.
People wonder why he didn't go to the pros when he was drafted, but didn't he promise to finish school to his mom? He disappointed her once....
I love that he was the kind of guy that lived by his word.

Magic and Larry both had a hard life growing up. It truly breaks my heart.

They're like identical opposites.
I'm so glad they were in the league at the same time.
It's amazing how close of friends they became.
Over 36,000,000 people tuned into that game in '79..
That's more than the first FIVE Finals games of
Lebron's Bubble Ring in 2020
Looking forward to the rest!
Crazy that Bird was painting benches, picking up trash, etc for the city
And enjoyed the work.
He has said that he's grateful that they gave him the job.
This is great, I'm Rockin with you. Thank you
The N.B.A. exists because of Magic and Larry.

Magic did not grow up tuff he had that life
She was upset that he gave up a free education
No Bird had graduated from college and she had hoped he'd be the first.
Right a free education
You gonna finish this documentary?
