Amazing when he first picked up the jersey and didnt look at the name but instead starred at the logo. Hes playing for the team and not the name
As a Flyers fan, the work he did on Coots at 12:41 was some of the maddening yet amazing plays I've ever seen. Coots plays him as well as you possibly can and then Tavares does some unreal stick and skate work to make a beautiful play. Toronto is going to be scary this season.

As I islanders fan this is hard too watch but throughout my childhood I watched this guy grow..we had ups and downs... I am also Canadian so I have a lot of trash talk coming from friends lately it’s hard walking into a mall and for the first time there selling John Tavares jerseys but with a leaf on the front it’s hard too watch it all go so fast just as we get a new coach new gm and rookie of the year. I wanted John to lead us I’ll miss him everyone keeps saying welcome home well New York is Johns home too FYI..take good good care of him all the best and ah we hit rock bottom there’s only one more way too go YES YES YES.🔷🔸🔷🔸🔷🔸🔷🔸🔷

what a shame NY wasted 9 years of his career! they didn't deserve him, they had 9 years to build a winning team around him. NY Islanders are an embarrassment! good on Toronto for getting him. ( not a TO fan ) hopefully they don't do what NY did for 9 years.

A team is only as good as it's leader. The teams sucked for most of his career but his lack of passion and hustle at times eases the pain of him leaving slightly; oh and the fact that they hired an entire new regime to run the team because he left.

@@ericcolland5466 well not traded, but its not like the isles didn't get anything from the Leafs this summer, they totally did, we'll miss uncle Leo on the PK and at the very least Martin had grit, a great relationship with Marner and Matthews and was great for the locker room. The isles and leafs made an exchange, but not quite in the form of a traditional trade, and the isles probably lost more here, but hey, can't say we gave you "nothing" we just gave you less

I dont care what anyone says… John Tavares was WAYYYYY MORE ELITE as an Islander, than as a leaf….. yes hes gotten older I understand, but there was just something much better about his gameplay as an Islander. Not to mention, he looks alot better and is more suiting and fitting in the Blue and Orange, rather than Blue and White. Just my opinion… its the way I see it.

There’s no valid argument from bitter NY fans. He obviously wasn’t 100% sure what he wanted to do with free agency or he would’ve signed before the season ended, NY tried. It was then on management to roll the dice or trade him to guarantee getting something back. Regardless of what he told the team, he was on the fence or he would’ve signed. Bitterness should’ve been aimed at management.
