The Coronavirus Global Pandemic has completely disrupted the aviation industry. With some strange economic incentives at play in the form of government bailout packages, airlines are flying many flights with nearly empty planes. So why exactly do they continue to do so?

Buddy you went way too far. This is Wendover territory.
I genuinely thought I was clicking on a wendover video

RealLifeLore2 talking about planes. Soon: Wendover talking about Toyota Corolla.

I didn't realize this wasn't wendover productions and got me so confused because of the voice 😂
man real life lore 2 is stealing wendover productions girl.
I'm just really wondering if wendover is going to do nothing or fight and break all rrl2s Toyota corollas.
What
@Anant Tiwari the joke is that wendover likes making videos about planes
You now send over doesn’t own the rights to talk about planes just because two you tubers talk about a similar subject doesn’t mean their copying each other
@Anant Tiwari nope, this isn't one of those kiddie channels where people are mocked for not knowing
Never look to the USA for economic advice lol
We’re warning you. Don’t cross into Wendover waters. Please just stick to Toyota Corollas.
It seems to me that we'll be hearing the term "too big to fail" a lot in the next year or so.

I work for one the big Airlines that are flying empty. If all these empty flights stop coming and going, I wouldn't have a job. They've laid off 86% of our work force already. I am the few lucky ones to have kept mine because of my high seniority. I kept mine but they cut my hours to 24 hours a week. If these planes don't fly even if empty, I would really be out of the job along with many others who are lucky enough to keep theirs but with reduced hours. At this point, ill take anything I can get.
okay...planes...whats next? bricks? toyota corollas?
Any educational RUclipsr covers airline-related topics
Original comments: iS tHiS wEnDoVeR?
I know! It’s all you see now in the comments. I don’t know where it started, as both RLL and Wendover has covered aviation since they started years ago.
Airwipe Its just a meme. Wendover is Planes and RLL is Toyota Corollas.
516Jafuh Oh yeah I get that but it’s like going to a gaming channel and joking about how much he likes Battlefield 1
516Jafuh What a stupid meme then, lol.
So the awnser to the title (Why Airlines Keep Flying Empty Flights During COVID-19?) is basicly 2:48 to 3:15
Aviation industry exists
Covid-19: It’s free real estate
Is this shit still a thing??
me on Sunday June 7, 2020 afternoon: i found your channel (I already watched reallifelore 1)
me again same time: lets subscribe
3:11 So many flights cancelled!
As much as I feel sorry for the workers, the CEOs and shareholders should put in their own money to keep their business afloat instead of firing people and getting bailouts to keep their high salaries.
I thought when there was a common enemy, people will work together, but instead, people end up finding scapegoats and casting aside the people in need.
You're right! All the airports from around the world are affected by the Coronavirus both domestic and international flights even here in the Philippines.
Title should’ve been “why *American* Airlines keep flying empty during COVID 19”
Yup
Stupidity
Wait... What? Airlines are flying in the US ? Out here in India airlines, trains & buses are stopped completely until the virus threat subsides
In America they are bribing people to destroy humans by fossil fuels. So stupid I hope in America everything gets destroyed😡
RLL2: makes a video about planes
HAI: wait no that’s my job
I am surprised that the entire video did not mention that the cargo hold is full (because there are only that many flights left) and helping to generate revenue. At least this is true for international flights across Europe and Asia.
Whenever I see the piece of stock footage at 3:06 I’m always just like "Oh look! It’s the bridge I sometimes drive over occasionally!"
i think CNBC beat you to the info by a few hours xD
but still, nice video as per usual :)
They are all the same news company, play all the news at once and you hear them all say the same words. It's the pr0paganda money hungry media!
The thing I was thinking about during all this was not just that airlines are losing money due to the government forcing their hand to keep routes open, but also that these nearly empty flights are emitting so much greenhouse gases, as air travel does, but the fact that it’s emissions without benefit to many people at all really makes it extra frustrating
7:00 Shanghai Pudong Airport
As someone who works at a airline, I must say, I'm so fucking afraid to lose my job 😥
0:52... wow. I had the idea that it's a worse downturn than ever, but just wow...
I love watching videos by Half as Realdover Productions!
Can there be a reallifelore episode on comparing city sizes in the United States and other different countries?
Out of curiosity, how do you research for these videos? Would be interested to read your sources myself, especially for this video.
0:16 to call total collapse slowdown must be understatement of the century
Corona will change the airline industry: they will now give you a glass water and a 50 cents mask
I’m a flight attendant..this breaks my heart 😢☹️
My step dad is a flight pilot
TO KEEP THE PARTS MOVING.....JUST LIKE A CAR.
the longer it sits, the quicker seals fail, rubber hardens......etc.
This video should be 15 seconds long. LMFAO
I’ve seen A380’s and they don’t have an f varieht.
So imagine how empty they are, quite scary
I got orders to fly today for the airforce, it’s really surreal to see it all so empty
5:30 United has a hub in Houston not Dallas.
Dallas is the home base for American
Aren't these commercial airlines also carrying cargo (mail and packages) to make up some of the profit? Also you didn't mention anything about how oil prices, which is the biggest expense for flights, are like a third of what they used to be.
It's annoying that for most numbers we have no clue whether they are just for the US or worldwide.
I would like to comment that your statement In 1:04 is incorrect when you said: "before it reached the united states" since the first death from COVID-19 accrued in early February and the second one was in mid-February.
At least carry cargo on those flights
the music is too loud man. but thanks for the explanation
You entered Wendover Territory
No one cares, just watch the video😒
I think the demand for cars will go up now. People will no longer travel in cramped seats occupied by someone else just an hour back and planes as it is are hotbeds for virus transmission. Problem is, travel will be curtailed to a select few and most will stay within a few hundred miles of their residence. Trans Oceanic travel will be reserved for a select few.
Most of these cars will be Hybrids or Electrics since the cost of batteries are plummeting rapidly.
This is logic : It is less loss making to fly empty considering the low oil prices than to park flights on ground. Demand & supply my friend!
Neat. Thanks for uploading!
*why aliens keep flying empty flights during Covid-19
Did anyone else know the answer from HAI's video with an empty fight in the UK?
1:11 simimerly
Another factor that wasn’t mentioned if planes where to stop flying is the weather effect. When planes fly they produce a mini layer of cloud from their exhaust, the exhaust may or may not be visible it depends on the local weather. If planes just stop flying it drops the the temperature. The last time that happened was 9/11, just two days after 9/11 the global temperature dropped by 2 degrees. Now imagine that happening over a 2 months or more period we could end up with weird weather phenomenons that we don’t want to deal with; with COVID-19.
Great video
It's been a long time since I have watched rll what's this new rll channel?
wait there is A RRL2???!!??!?!?!
RUclips video about airplanes: exists
me: Wow, really good video! Thanks Wendover!
Wendover: Wait, what? It wasn’t me.
me: Sorry, force of habit. Thanks RLL2
Great analysis.
Will budget airlines disappear after the pandemic? I am pretty worried about this.
Awww, knowing that there are no cases in the skyline, these pilots have found a new way to amuse themselves. 😅
Whoever planned the coronavirus really thought it throught
Why they don't convert those planes into cargo planes? With a few modification, they can just as easily carry cargo. 🤔
i thought that will be the point of the video, that they just carry cargo from place to place. it would save them money for sure.
I've watched enough of your videos to already know it's because they need their airport slots :)
I had cancelled two flights worth of 2.5k and all I got in return was a 100! This is Karma y'all
If you don’t fly airlines like Frontier and Spirit, once this is all over, it’s going to cost you $900 to fly from Atlanta to Denver.
No, my step dad is flight pilot
Another factor, why passanger airlines still keep flying is, that they still transport cargo.
Where can I can get the map in 3:27?
I've seen many youtubers use this kind of a map and I'm so desparate to know where I can get it.
ever heard maintenance my guy lol
Yet the price for a plane ticket is still high? Airlines would rather fly empty than take a passenger! Disgusting humanity!
Why does the BGM sound like astronomica ?
When your so early there is 2 likes
anyone with brains would figure out that instead of flying empty seats, why not book seats that are going to multiple locations, then ground the rest of the flights where profits might tank, but the company will remain sustainable, an example would be, to book flights that are going from new york city to miami, chicago, cleveland, and atlanta georgia, then have a single aircraft make those multiple stops
Fuel prices is pretty cheap so....
Not saying that airlines are making money but they are able to carry MUCH more cargo so they are still losing money but not as dramatic as they say. Most of the money made by airlines is from cargo.
Do they at least fill the plane with some cargo?
Why is this video demonitised?
keep flying to release chem trails which is important for 5g, 4g etc
Finally wendover video talks about airplane
I took a flight 5 weeks ago, and I was the only passenger. was so much better ^_^
So that's why even the corona could not stop climate change
It's a big crisis like the coronavirus that affects USA, Russia, China, India, Europe, Central Asia
RealLifeLore2 wend over the top.
Guessing cargo and pilot training
How did you get to this before Wendover? 😮😮😮
0:29 I kinda want to fly now it would be so surreal
Welcome to another episode of: How is this not Wendover?
Cargo. Main answer is cargo, cargo is making so much money that airlines are break even during this pandemic
Weird to see a video about planes without the Wendover voice
All these Wendover comments are getting old
Wow
minimum service I understand, but 54% is pretty far from a minimum service
Then why when you call Delta the wait time us 6 hours?
Actual reality is that it's to prop up the oil industry.
ClintonxA
And it’s still not enough
WENDOVER? HAI?? WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!
Wrong United hubs, but solid video.
The year 2000 and 20 will not be good for airlines...Were there planes in the year 20?
The economy is sush a weird thing. Only people can create some so silly.
