Ok, nice video so far, I'm not changing the oil pan though and I don't have a G6 either. That leaves me with my issue . . . I have an 08 Saturn Aura XR I know that they are very similar vehicles, a lot of parts will swap out and so on, but do I have to actually drop that engine ? I don't have a lift like you. I've already changed almost everything else under the front end of this car, and now the shop that does the alignments says my LCA is worn out. I've bought the parts and will have them in the shop tomorrow. I really... REALLY don't want to remove those engine mounts or drop the engine, even if it's only an inch or two. Line 12 → I really dislike working on late model vehicles. Ok . . . 10:06 Here you begin to fish those bolts up into the frame and ??? bushing clamp ? Whatever... Did I mention I have what my old boss used to call Gorilla Hands ? Please refer to line 12 above :)
I believe the lower frame is different. You should be able to remove that front single LCA bolt without an issue. The Saturn frame doesn't need the motor mount removed
I actually have to do this. When at 3:50 in the video you state just to pry on the motor mount are you suggesting that you can pry on the mount to gain room for bolt removal without raising the engine?
You still have to raise the motor to get the oil pan out. If you just wanted that bolt out for the control arm you could take a pry bar and force the rubber to flex enough to get the bolt and or control arm free.
The obvious question is why not just replace the LCA with a complete new unit ? In your method you only renewed 1 of the 3 components that wear out in the LCA . That cars 11 years old and could benefit from having a complete new LCA . You did have nice video footage and your mechanical ability is very good .
That’s a great point, the ball joints seemed really good and I felt the same about the front bushings. It’s a friend of mines car so if they wear out I’ll replace them for free🤦🏻♂️.
Hi Emily, when the bushings dry out they start to crack and lose durability. If yours is dry rotted then they need to be replaced because its a matter of time before they separate from the aluminum body and start to make noise. What happens when that rubber separates from the aluminum housing is that the front wheel will start to get a little bit of a wobble, not horrible but enough that you would feel a little wiggle in the steering wheel. that piece you reference at 10:45 comes as an assembly, which means that the piece I am bolting on there is exactly what you get from the auto parts store.
So this may be a stupid question but how much would I expect to pay to have something like this done? I don't have tools or possess the skill level to do this myself I'm embarrassed to say. Thank you
@@pascratcherjoe I was doing the control arm bushing concurrently with the oil pan job. So I was just rippin and strippin to get room to get the oil pan down also.
Experienced mechanics are great at making things for newbies seem easy. The sway bar link isn't easy, but you made it look like it was!!
3:10 that's why we're here... LOL
All u need to do for that plastic shield is take 4 clips off an use a bunge cord to hold it out of the way

Exellent video, thanks for sharing .
Hey thanks i appreciate that!

@@whatsnextgarage I'm just doing the LCA, thanks for the tip! 🙂

10:45 what is the dry rotted bushing? Does it need to be replaced too? Mine is the same.

I’m just guessing but I would bet $600-1000.
was this the 6 cylinder? would it be different with the smaller engine if it is?
It was the 6 cylinder. Not sure if different engine configuration.
Do both wheels need to be off the hround
Not really if you only replacing one control arm probably just jack up that particular side. Good luck and have a great weekend!!
You didnt even need to take the arm off? Just the 3 bolts out of that bushing and it comes off?
The control arm?
yeah
