What most women don’t understand is it’s really hard to look “bulky”. Don’t be scared to lift. It’s not going to make you look bulky. It takes a lot of work to get that chiseled look. I actually want the boulder shoulder/massive quads look and it’s not easy. You’re not going to get it casually lifting weights.
im a guy and its wild, i weight lift and im 100% natural, no roids etc, and im 5'4 and can bicep curl 50 pounds..... and i dont look bulky at all and im a guy! ive seen 6'1 guys curling 30 who are way bigger than me and i suspect theyre on roids........i promise its not gonna make you bulky, youd have to be the most genetic abnormality ever. im really strong for my height and size and a guy and im still not bulky. you have to take performance enhancers to really get bulky... for most people. the truth nobody wants to talk about. go look at all the old world pre 1950s body builders. these guys arent even bulky, they look skinny compared to body builders now, and yet, are probably 4x as strong. the bulky look, on both men and women equally, is USUALLY from performance enhancing drugs (PEDS). obviously theres men and women who are genetic anomalies who will be bulkier etc with lifting but i really wanna dispel the myth that everyone will always get bulky. they wont! i promise
@@xg2513 I'm a guy too and I don't look like a mass monster despite lifting for about 2 years now. I think people are scared of something thats just not achievable naturally lol
Different body types such as the mesomorph can get bulky quicker than any other body type. I mean by not doing that much at all. The typical mesomorph won’t look like the fitness models that you see at the weight shows, but there muscles may look a-lot leaner and muscular then other body types when exercising. People with this body might feel even stronger after just exercising a couple of times. I say to this to say if you are a woman you are not going to look like the fitness models I mentioned. You will still have to Eat a certain amount, and work REALLY hard to get to that point. Michelle McDaniel does a-lot of videos about this.
As someone who started doing pilates last week, I feel called out. I'm doing half an hour every day, and although it has been only a week and obviously no visible results yet, I already feel so much better. After almost 2 years of being sedentary, doing some sort of exercise makes all the difference.
I have PCOS my hormones are off the charts . I can’t do heavy workouts or cortisol goes high so Pilates changed my life . I also got curvier not skinnier from Pilates !
the pink princess pilates is supposed to replace the ballerina aesthetic, where most people who enjoy the aesthetic realize that being a ballerina takes a lot of work and it actually isn't easy. So the pink and feminine aesthetic of ballerinas was then integrated into pilates so that more people can easily hop into the trend without being called a fraud for not practicing the extensive exercises needed to be a ballerina.
@@arissahusayn4874 you don't need to start at 3 to be a good ballet dancer. unless you're like 50, if you start ballet classes and are consistent with them (and your teacher knows what she's doing) you'll do just fine. and if you're talking about going pro, 90% of girls who do start ballet from the time they learn to walk do not go pro anyways lol
@@arissahusayn4874 unless you went to a school for prodigies, the 6 year olds would be learning the very basics of ballet by doing their fun little short routines lol. and i don't know if you've ever been around a group of young children but teaching them anything is like pulling teeth. at your age you would have an easier time learning and would improve at a faster rate than the small children. you're 18, you're not on your deathbed and you're not unteachable. you would be surprised at the amount of people your age and older who are just starting dance. i don't mean to push you into taking dance classes if you've moved past that passion but if the only thing keeping you from signing up is the idea that you're "too old" or not good enough then you shouldn't let that hold you back.
Pilates isn’t for weightloss. Women that have been doing it forever know this. It’s for building small amounts or lean muscle and maintaining. You have to add cardio and be in a calorie deficit to lose pounds
Depending on what you eat you can lose weight with little to no exercise. For people that are mostly sedentary Pilates can definitely help them lose weight when paired with the right meal plan.
@@amaniyamara9650 you're right, muscles do help burn fat. However, they also weigh more than fat. OP's talking about weight loss, not just losing fat. Not looking at the scale and instead seeing progress through a difference in strength, energy, etc. (and looking at the difference in the mirror, if you want something more aesthetic) is a healthier way of doing things. Unfortunately, not a lot of ppl go into their journey with that in mind.
@@runway5338 Muscle does not weigh more than fat - that is a myth that has been debunked multiple times. A pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh the same - a pound is a pound, regardless of what that pound is from.
pilates is back cause extreme thinness is back, and the thick bodybuilder look is no longer trending. these girls are "leaning out" and toning cause they're definitely losing ✨muscle✨ AND fat cause of dieting along with pilates
Losing muscle is a worry that a lot of people overlook because of the assumption that 'as skinny as possible is as healthy as possible'. Which is not true. Glad you brought it up, more people should be aware
I hate the way people treat their bodies as trends. I think doing whatever is best for you is always the way to go but I do feel being a thick lifter is probably healthier than extreme thinness personally. I just want everybody healthy and looking they way they feel best, not letting trends dictate how they choose to care for themselves
While someone transitioning from something like weightlifting to pilates might see muscle loss, I would be surprised if that was true for the average person simply because they wouldn’t progress at all in pilates. That said body fat is important and a lot of athletes think they are healthy because they are gaining muscle but are too lean.
@@KB-jz1nq Muscle loss would the be result of combining the added stress of pilates on top of a calorie deficit for too long or in too much deficit. At a certain point, your body doesn't want to give up more fat and it will start breaking down muscle even if you don't have much to begin with. This would be more of a worry for people who aren't overweight but still put themselves in a deficit due to wanting to be skinnier.
I LOVE Pilates so much. I grew up doing xc/track and hated working out after high school. Then in college when I wanted to start working out again pilates was the first exercise that really helped me connect physical activity with my mind and made me more intentional with movement. (Sounds so woo-woo but it works for me :,0)
don’t feel guilty, I have a similar experience lol pilates is the only exercise I truly love, because it’s so fluid and intentional, and core building. idk it just makes me feel good about being in my body. people need to stop going after something because they think it’ll give them a certain aesthetic, and instead find and keep to movement that they enjoy because it’s good for the body and mind
Pilates changed the game for me!! Physically and mentally. So challenging and grounding! I was killing myself with excessive weight lifting and cardio… this makes me feel so much better
during a really depressive phase, i started doing those arm circle workout and i kinda knew it’s not going to do much aesthetically, it did help to just get me out of bed and maybe even from then on, move a bit more. sometimes i just did 5 mins of arm whatever waving around, sometimes i then did some dancing for another 20 mins. and that really helped me with dealing with my depression. because i then moved more overall, i didn’t lose weight, but i stopped gaining weight. so i really recommend those few mins arms, just to get yourself motivated to move, since it is not that much but better than nothing :)
I’m currently lifting 4x a week and doing yoga 2 times a week. This combo of both strength training and flexibility training have been working very well for my body :)
yes, this is my favourite split atm ! i switch between dumbells and yoga, and then do almost exclusively pilates instead of the dumbells the week before my period, before switching back to the strength - yoga combo for the rest of my cycle and its been working for consistency and feeling great for my body
One of the biggest scams on with any type of exercise is that it will make you skinny, which it really doesn't, it makes you fitter, significantly, but it's not guaranteed to make you skinny. And the fact that people are being encouraged to do exercise to get skinny is so annoying to me because you should exercise but not cause you think it will make you skinny Edit: I realise the tone of this sounds like I am looking down on people for wanting to be skinny and I apologise for that. I personally do not care, it's your body, you get to decide what you do with it What I actually disagree with is this whole culture of pressuring people to lose weight or to gain weight, to essentially look and be a certain way irrespective of what works for them and the way people are pressured to exercise so they can get to the weight other people think is best for them rather than emphasising the other more tangible benefits of exercise. Exercise probably won't make you skinny but it will make you fitter, I can lift more weights, go up more flights of stairs and I have more energy since I started exercising but my weight has not changed so I find the emphasis on exercise only as a means to lose weight to be reductive and harmful because it puts the onus for a person's weight squarely on them ignoring the many other factors, some of them societal, which contribute to our weight
Hiii Sorry I'm not really educated on this topic, but I'd like to know more. Could u please explain why exercises dont make people skinnier? Dont they help to lose calories? What about cardio exercises?
@@gwenm7884 your results will depend mostly on diet and genetics. Losing weight at the speed usually advertised takes a lot of work in outside of exercise and is extremely taxing on the body. A lot of people are physically unable to achieve the result. On top of that a how you lose weight is entirely genetic. Your bone structure and how you naturally store fat won't change from excersize. It's still good to do and will cause you to lose weight to an extent, but it won't just make you skinny.
It’s really frustrating when a lot of these girls say they quit years of weightlifting to do pilates because the results are “better”. Like do they not realize they have those results BECAUSE of weight lifting? If you take the average person that doesn’t exercise much and put them into pilates, they will not see those same results. So yeah, all these influencer’s and celebrities are extremely misleading.
Not necessarily. It depends on the type of pilates, their bodyfat and genetics. I enjoy the results of softer workouts, more cardio, conditoning, pilates, yoga, erc than weights. I lift very rarely to switch it up but there's not a need for lifting. We can all just do what we want and enjoy the results we prefer. Huge muscles are not everyone's goals you know
@@Kaybye555 you don’t get “huge muscles” from weight lifting, you get muscle definition. Most of those girls who did the switch & look “toned” have that look from weight lifting
@@YoureDone96 you mean they built up muscles from lifting and the lose weight from pilates so thats why they look better? Sorry if this is a stoopid question
Yeah they should at least be honest and admit they got bored & wanted to try something new or fell for the hype. They’ll still be fit if they’re just swapping one type of exercise for another. Any type of exercise is good, as long as you can get yourself to do it regularly 🤷🏼♀️
I think that a lot of gym culture on social media is not actually about being healthy and moving your body, it's about aesthetics. It's ok for your only exercise to be walking 30 minutes every day, that's great! Because you're moving your body! Just like pilates and weight lifting can be excellent workouts, they can also both (yes, weight training included) be destructive to your mental health and well being. It's great to have goals and work towards them, but when they're aesthetic goals, really dive into WHY you want to look that way, and if that goal in itself is hurting your mental health. I had a body goal, I worked towards it, and I got there and still hated myself. So I picked a new goal, worked towards it, got there, and still hated myself. Exercise should be a celebration of your body's capabilities and part of a well-rounded lifestyle, not necessarily aesthetics.
This is a great point. I’ve started incorporating different types of exercise into my routine because of this perspective. I’m interested in how I can use my body well. One of those options include some sort of martial art, but I have to get over my squeamishness of violence.
Exactly like many ppl hate exercising cuz 99% of excersise is shrouded wit the idea of overworking ur body to lose weight as fast as u can. But excersising shud be about getting out of ur mind & into ur body & FEELING good, like closing ur eyes & feeling good. If sumone makes a "Lose 30lbs in 6weeks" video on youtube its gonna get so many views & clicks & ppl will start it thinking "ok i have to do this everyday for 6 weeks then ill lose the weight" & by day 4 their over it cuz they havent 1) increased their stamina at a slowly inclining pace 2) adjusted their workout to accomodate their needs. Sum days u wanna dance, sum days u wanna walk, sum days u wanna weight lift & of COURSE sum days u dont wanna do ANYTHING at all !!!! This is all fine but in our fatphobic world, its hard for many ppl to ground themselves in this notion. I have health issues that require me to excersise DAILY & it has nothing to do wit how my body looks but how i can strengthen my joints and limit inflammation. And the first rule of all of that is to: take it slow. So many vids i look to can seem progressive & then before my time is up watching they always mention losing weight or "getting snatched" & i am thankful that kind of thinking doesnt poison my mind (i honestly feel like im lucky to think this way since there is so much predatory fatphobic marketing all around us) but everytime i see it, i just shake my head.... ppl r being subconsciously fed info that their body is never good enough & its so sick ! Very good comment & sentiment, in case u cant tell from my long reply, i agree !!
Absolutely! My goal is to FEEL better. I'm sitting on my ass all day every day, and exercising regularly is a) making me get up earlier when I used to have a messed up sleep schedule, b) making me leave my flat if only for an hour each day and c) helping my hips/back/posture sooooo much. So what if I only do my little grandma level pilates class! When I feel like these are getting too easy, I'll switch it up for something a bit more challenging. I've never been a sports/fitness girly, cardio makes me miserable and I find weights boring, so why would I do something I hate if exercise feeling GOOD is my main goal? I'm happy with just not being a couch potato haha! Happy and healthy over looking snatched any day, thaaaaanks
It’s naive to think that fitting in isn’t important and a valid goal. It isn’t everything but it’s a strong motivator for people and makes them more sociable
@@-venusx I mean...I guess its normal but if you keep doing this. The trends will change every 3-4 years and you'll just continue to get swept up in whatever anyone else is doing.. I hope you find your own motivations one day.
dont even watch it, this is all you need to know: WEIGHTLIFING: build or mantain muscle, CARDIO: improve cardiovascular health, build stamina, will most likely lose muscle and WILL lose fat, PILATES/at home workouts: build muscle but not become "bulky" since you are just using your own bodyweight, except pilates is a lot more intense since it is very slow and precise movements, so does it work? most definitely, but NOT without the proper diet, same goes for weighttrianing or cadio- NONE OF IT will work without a proper diet and when I say proper I mean what is suitable for YOUR NEEDS. if you as a man or a woman wants to build muscle, you'll both need a certain diet, if you on the other hand want to become more lean but not "bulky" BUT TONE UP FROM BEING SKINNY FAT, then you'll have to do and eat other things. THERE IS NO QUICK FIX that has lastign results. that's why most people gain a lot of weight back after a diet, because if you wan tlong lasting results you need it to be your lifestyle not a diet. then again if you're a bodybuilder or athlete your diet prob changes a lot. WHICH AGAIN IS CUZ WE HAVE DIFF NEEDS GODDAMNIT.
Pilates isn’t meant to get us snatched but to build strength in order to have good posture and balances muscular strength. It something to add to your workout routine, not to be the center of it
Exactly. I personally do 3-4 days of pilates per week but since I'm asthmatic and working on weight loss I also do cardio 2-3 days a week, depending on intensity (I do fewer days at high intensity/more days at low intensity). Then on days when I'm not feeling like doing anything I do easy yoga/stretching, just to stay mobile lol
I don’t mind Pilates being super trendy rn it’s moreso the “hourglass” aspect. That literally comes down to skeletal structure. I used to weigh a little more and I actually was more “hourglass” because i had weight on my hips, but I have super wide ribs and it’s slightly less hour glass now which is fine. Some people just have wide torsos that can’t be changed with exercise!
YES 👏🏽 I’m a Pilates instructor and am so sad by the messaging about Pilates from young instructors and influencers. Even with the workouts I create I try to be so intentional about the language I use.. but sadly the most popular videos are the ones with big claims of a certain “look”. Love that you included the history of Pilates too. We need more balanced voices like yours!
ive been doing pilates since november and honestly its so good. i do 40-60min a day and go on walks and it gives me so much energy and results that even people around me have commented on. I haven't seen changed my diet except adding a little more protein, not everyone has the money to go to a gym, moving your body should never be discouraged

@@sorasora7240 yes, it is entirley possible. Walking CAN make you lose weight, depending on how many steps you make a day. That paired with pilates, and ofc a good diet, can definitely put you in a caloric deficit and therefore make you lose weight.
I have a pretty severe case of scoliosis and my doctor recommended Pilates and it changed my life for the better!! I’d definitely need to be on painkillers if it wasn’t for this awesome core strengthening exercise ❤
@@celestia96 hey!! i don’t have scoliosis, but my physical therapist has expressed concerns about the slouch of my back, and when i read that pilates could fix it, i was instantly intrigued. it worked instantly for me. dedicating just a few minutes a day really made a difference on my posture and well-being, and i totally recommend it! if you look in the playlist section of my channel, there’s a playlist called “i am her!!!” that has the exact videos i watched. i didn’t always do the stretching beforehand if i really wanted to get on with the exercise, but i do recommend it, at least in the beginning when you may not be so used to moving.

The issue is so many of y’all are always in a constant state of losing weight or changing your “goals” to a whatever is trending at the moment. So many people don’t actually wanna be skinny, y’al just wanna be what’s in. I understand tho. Honestly my advice would be to get rid of a lot of your social media for some time and actually evaluate yourself. I think alot of you would find out that you actually really like the way you look because those social pressures aren’t there. The average size for a woman in the US is like a 16 but on ticktock you see 90% of girls no bigger than a size 6. Move your body in anyway you want and just have fun with it
I cannot agree more. I can't stand that everyone around me seems to be on a never-ending weight loss journey (kinda including me). Whether they are skinny or fat, whether they lose any weight or don't. Some people are delusional when it comes to their weight. My mother smokes to not become too fat, even tho throughout the years she fluctuates greatly. My friend always talks about the times she was super skinny, and my classmate wears too-tight clothes because she is convinced that she cannot put on any weight. It's ok to put on some weight after puberty; don't portray your skinny teenage years as your greatest achivement maybe?
@@jazzigirl29 ???? how could you possibly say size 16 isn't healthy when you don't even know the multitudes of different bodies and body types that wear a size 16? that's like saying "everyone who wears a size 0 is anorexic" which is absolutely not true in the slightest 😭 everyone has a different body type so one person's size 16 body may look completely different from another person's size 16 body and one of them may be perfectly healthy while the other isn't.
Fr big butt is still in but It’s one of those body trends that does not affect me enough to make me wanna work on my booty or get surgery. Like yes my butt not big and people try to make me feel bad about it. And you know for a second I tried feeling bad about it but I just can’t. Because I never wanted a big booty in my life. people can’t understand that, and it’s because they haven’t realized most body goals are just body trends.
my cousin is an actual pilates instructor, masters degree in physical education). it works, its hard, but the 15-20 minute workouts wont help you. you need to do it regularly but also do it for a longer time and eat right. but she is also just generally super skinny by nature
Exactly and this applies to everything! I'm a weightlifter who does an hour in the gym 4 days a week, all of that would mean nothing if my diet wasn't supplemental to my training :)
It’s also just a really great exercise regime to stay toned and fit overall. I mean ya, it’s not plastic surgery, so it’s probably not going to get you as “snatched” as ya know, plastic surgery would (which a lot of celebrities use) that claim it’s just “pilates, green juice, and lots of water” 🙄😒 But it is a good health habit to include in your overall routine. 💁🏽♀️
15-20 minutes work outs will most DEFINITELY help! What are you talking about? Sure, yes. You might not lose weight like that but 15-20 minutes of a pilates workout can benefit your heart, muscles, and mental health 💪
I love pilates! I love that it’s slow and controlled and it taught me how to breathe right and engage my core when I do weight lifting, not just when I do pilates ❤
My mother is a pilates instructor, and always been skinny, but, let me tell you, she does it every day in the advanced mode and she doesn't have those abs of this famous woman, in fact she have a hourglass figure(that we all have since beginning! Pilates just make it more visible) but she does have fat in the waist, fat that the tiktok girls would say that is too much fat, btw. Ps: why people in tiktok think that woke up at 5-6 pm and "drinks a lot of water" is the key for everything in the life? W t f
My mom is also a Pilates instructor and this is so true 💀✋ people need to actually research things before just following a trend because it’s not just like regular gym like it’s actually super precise
Usually because these people do not drink any water at all before developing that habit. If you go from solely drinking soda/juice/coffee to drinking even one glass of water a day you're going to feel a lot better.
I’m here and ready to listen to these opinions of yours cause I’m always weary of ‘trends’ or ‘styles’ or whatever that involve not just a fashion aesthetic but also a specific body type/diet/exercise
Y’all. Just learn to eat healthy. And have a basic routine with exercise. And just chill. But do what you like if Pilates is for you go for it. But don’t think you gotta do every little trend that pops up.
I think it comes down to genetics, I started Pilates and it toned my body faster than previous exercises I've done have , but the result was not the same for my friend who does weightlifting to get her desired result. It varies, there's no one size fit all solution to anything
I’ve been doing Pilates for only 1.5 months and I’ve already noticed more results than when I was lifting weights. I agree it definitely is different for everyone
same here, it comes to show how different bodies are. i didn’t know pilates wouldn’t work since everyone was painting it as this miracle workout. for me, other exercises worked but results took longer, pilates for me gave me results way quicker and i feel stronger and more awake.
It honestly is genetics. It’s kind of like how people praise swimmers bodies, but don’t realize they’re genetically gifted for that sport and that’s why they all look like that. Just like cyclers have thick thighs, wrestlers are short and stocky, marathoners are thin.
Sorry, I've been pretty much only doing Pilates (reformer and mat) for four years and I'm much more fit and strong than I was when I was weightlifting. Pilates *does* give you a different shape than weightlifting does. It has also dramatically helped with my posture and flexibility. Just because something is "trendy" doesn't mean it doesn't work.
Could it be that you didn't lift weights the right way/right amount of weights/right reps etc, + maybe you also changed your diet as you learned? Weightlifting will give very different results depending on how you're doing it, it's a real science which is why bodybuilder, swimsuit ifbb pros and power lifters all have very different bodies. Also, depending on your metabolism, different exercises will give you different results.
@@PaisleySnail1932i know i’m not the one you asked, but at least for me, (i gain muscle very easily and already have larger more muscular arms and legs without doing anything) weightlifting made me very muscular, not manly but a little bulkier, with shorter muscles. that’s really because of my genetics and how easy i build muscle, but pilates gave me much longer, leaner muscles and made my waist tinyyyy and so toned, a more petite feminine look.
@@fruchtkuchengesicht i was already slim in the waist & in general from weightlifting & walking a lot, but it did make my waist smaller- it rlly targets the waist so much it tones it up, so whether that was weight loss due to pilates or, more muscle rather than a softer waist, it took my waist from 26” to 23-24”- weightlifting is also very taxing so i think the lack of cortisol from by pilates vs weightlifting was amazing! the back/glute benefits are great for the illusion of a smaller waist though as well
i been trying to put on muscle for the last 2 years. Turns out protein and eating more was all i needed. I lift relatively heavy and Im considered toned but no where near bulky. It takes so much food and lifting to get any where near "Bulky"
that depend on the person, i get bulky super fast, so i stop doing lifting and now doing pilates and after 3 months i'm very happy with the way i look, still going to pilates!
What I get frustrated by is the focus on weight vs. health. I will 100% admit I started going to the gym because I wanted to look better, but that has come totally secondary to my health as I have gotten older. I LOVE pilates, but without weight-lifting I know I will struggle with muscular endurance and bone-density later in life, and without both HIIT and low-steady state cardio, I know I will struggle aerobically. Moving to a weekly program that includes strength, pilates/mobility/core, HIIT, and LSS cardio has completely changed how I feel and the relationship with my body. All of this is so important for maintaining overall health as we age. For anyone looking for a RUclips with incredible resources, would point you to Keltie O'Connor and Andrew Huberman. :)
@@azaria4447 oh interesting what makes you say that? Always got the impression she wanted to live a more balanced lifestyle both physically and nutritionally (especially after her body building days) but maybe I need to revisit
Also, after rereading this feel like it may read as my disagreeing with Madisyn. Want to clarify I love this video and adding an additional comment in support of her thought process!!
as someone who does Pilates it 1000% makes you more toned. What you put in is what you get out. If you aren’t properly doing the work and not being consistent then you will not see the results
You need all work outs to be healthy. Cardio for heart healthy. Strength training for muscle retention and yoga/ Pilates for stretching and overall well being. I personally looked the best when I did all three. But for sure Pilates isn’t gonna give you these crazy results people claim I’m sure they’re doing more than Pilates, or have a body type which allows them to look like that.
As a bikini competitor who is TRYING to get “bulky” in my off-season, I’m here to tell you that you won’t get bulky from lifting unless you start cycling some serious gear
Depends on genetics. I'm built like a Renoir nude and I start getting hella chunky the moment I touch a weight - my body type is basically "bulky pear". Not everyone is an ectomorph XD I like having guns and big strong legs tho, feeling strong is great :D
I'm a routine weight lifter and I took a Pilates class one day last summer and it humbled me so hard that I'm now determined to get good at it lmao so now I do it 2x a week and I still kinda suck but it's relaxing and enjoyable. And I swear pilates is the only workout that gets a specific muscle in my ass to burn like no other.
Because weight lifting targets multiple muscles at a time while Pilates can help target specific muscles. Something I noticed from reading everyone’s comments.
i was soooo over the pilates trend when i saw some girls say they “stopped working out like a man” (aka weightlifting) and it helped fix their hormones. ??? i think it ties into the trend of coming into your feminine energy or whatever. my opinion on exercise is when you find a genre of working out that you like, stick with it because anything is better than nothing
Yeeeahhh that’s really toxic. My conservative dad that I don’t really have a relationship with anymore loves to tell me that I only weight-lift to try and “be a man” and that’s bullshit. Being muscular is not only for people who want to be “masculine”
@@Liz-kj2jj Also, lifting weights makes women's body so beautiful. Big thighs and butt and a slim waist...Do men even have a brain? For women to get muscular like a man we gotta use steroids.
Agreed, it’s so stupid, when are people gonna realise that this whole gendered thing, E.g, pink is for girls blue is for boys type thing is just a social construct like- it doesn’t mean anything, we’re humans and both sexes are more similar than we are different. It’s literally common sense but I feel like a lot of people on the internet don’t think like that.
I’ve seen it go the other way too. Gym bros crapping on Pilates because they view it as “girly” and not powerful or challenging enough. People really should just do the workout routine they enjoy enough to be consistent with, and mind their business. Personally I do a combination of weights, Pilates, and yoga; and that seems to be what works best for me.
i think the "fixing their hormones" thing comes from the fact that it doesn't raise your cortisol as much as weight lifting, elevated cortisol is bad for the body when it goes on for too long
I have lifted weights for years and n e v e r got bulky. And my body type falls pretty naturally into one that easily builds both fat and muscle. Thank you for addressing this. Working out and building strength/fitness is something you have to incorporate into your lifestyle and it takes years. And variation. And trying out new things and returning to old things. For anyone reading this, I’ve just started using kettlebells which has been great. But it’s not all I do. Thank u for this video!! It is so needed.
13:13 I know you probably didn't mean it that way but no human can have 0% body fat. As a matter of fact, anything under 15% is considered unhealthy and dangerous for women causing period loss and fertility issues. Just wanted to clear that up. Loved the video
I use to be under 15%, I didn’t lose my period or have infertility issues but I definitely felt fucked up. Super difficult to maintain 0/10 do not recommend. Fortunately it only took 2 to 3 months to get back up to 20%
Just wanna point out that losing weight absolutely can be easy, as long as you’re prepared for it to take a lot longer, which if often more sustainable anyways. You’re more likely to be consistent if its chill and you’re just eating one or two less chocolate bars/treats a day and doing a 20min walk every day. Once you’ve got that down and you wanna speed it up a little make other lil diet tweaks on top, like reducing your portions a bit or replacing sugary drinks with water or tea. You might challenge yourself to run for 20mins or walk for 30. You probably won’t reach your goal by this summer, so don’t weigh yourself every week, but you’ll notice positive changes from sneakily undoing those habits. Plus if it’s easy to keep up you can guarantee that by next summer you’ll see a significant difference. As far as exercise goes pick the one that’s the least hassle for you or the most enjoyable, if pilates suits you, do that a couple times a week and walk with some good music the other days. We’re tricked into thinking weight loss hard because we want a quick, dramatic transformation. If you do it slow & steady you’ll never need to partake in diet hell again! Good video 👍🏻
i think pilates can be a really good way for people who are intimidated by the gym and higher impact exercise to get into daily consistent movement and people with less strength (like me) to start off with body weight exercise. that being said i did not lose 25 pounds from the daily pilates it was definitely from a calorie deficit/addressing my binge/restrict cycle
i’m all for pilates personally but its definitely not a magic potion. even with the big weight loss putting me at a weight probably not too far off from the pilates influencer girlies i definitely dont have a flat stomach or a super snatched waist and i know that pilates wont magically give me that!
@@saumyashukla5370 for me i changed my diet as well to prioritize nutrients like protein and fiber and make sure i’mm getting a good amount of fruits and veggies a day. i continue to exercise on a daily basis as well. i don’t know what will happen in the long term but i dont have urges to binge anymore because i have changed my mindset around food and i do eat non nutritious food as well on a daily basis, its all just balanced. Mindset is really key, going at it with a place of compassion for yourself will really help with the motivation to stay consistent and eat enjoyably healthy foods!
I only weight train and I love it. I’m going to get into either taekwondo or kickboxing. Most people forget that martial arts can do a lot for your mind and body. Also, when things like Pilates become more and more popular, I feel like as a business owner in that area people would respect you more if you were 100% honest. Possibly more people would want to support you in sales.
Martial Arts are my passion too. I do Muay Thai. I wish I could train Taekwondo and Jiu-jitsu as well. Martial Arts healed me from depression and built my discipline. Also, it made my body look better (not as much as if i lifted weights, but it's definitely better than before).
so i grew up modelling & i've had about 8 years of experience in the industry so i feel like i know what i'm talking about -- all the models who do pilates emphasize what they already have. i have abs naturally without doing a damn thing. when i do pilates or vinyasa, they do get a bit more noticeable/defined. A BIT. SLIGHTLY. i haven't met a single model who doesn't have their body type through either genetics and/or restrictive eating.
I've been doing pilates for 6 years and it SAVED a horrible chronic low back issue that was preventing me from doing things I loved. It's incredibly useful for understanding how your body works and your proper alignment so that you can incorporate THOSE lessons into everyday life activities and other forms of exercise. My strength has increased sooo much. Very pro pilates for a true wellness outlook on life, not a smaller body.
as someone who counts calories, does pilates and cardio and bodyweight exercises, it was nice to hear that what im doing isnt disordered, because everytime i bring it up to someone they often tell me that it sounds like a disorder, when im really just doing it so i can be confident and strong in my own body. yes, its hard, yes, it takes ungodly amounts of discipline, and YES, i want to give up sometimes but I push forward for myself and my own health.
I do Pilates because it’s peaceful and makes me feel good about myself. There’s nothing about my body that I want to change, I do it for the sole purpose of having daily movement, staying healthy, and feeling good. It honestly helps a lot with my mental health (exercising), and it doesn’t even have to be Pilates; running is also great. And imo, it’s a great way to have a healthy and positive mindset about your body if you’re doing it in moderation and not overworking yourself. It’s so important to listen to your body when you’re too tired, and then you can do it again the next day if you’re not sore. I think it’s also a great way to build some muscle. It’s also important to not have a “goal”. Having a goal about how you wanna look is so unhealthy because you’re never going to be satisfied with how you look and that leads you to overexert yourself and go past your body’s limits. Be satisfied with your body first, and even if you’re trying to lose weight, everything comes with time. But yeah I just wanna say that Pilates is exercise and there’s nothing wrong with that UNLESS you’re doing it to be thinner or have a smaller waist, bc that won’t make you happy. Do it for your health in terms of incorporating movement into your daily routine, not because you wanna meet societies unrealistic beauty and body standards. But basically I’m tryna say that Pilates isn’t a “trend”, and it wasn’t made for weight loss. I’ve been doing it for years and I do it because it’s exercise and I believe everyone should have some form of exercise in their routine because it’s healthy for the mind and the body :)
Pilates definitely strengthens ur core and I personally lost a lot of weight with Pilates obviously there is no type of exercise that will make you ‚,skinny“ but Pilates definitely toned my body
I think most of the recent generation goes through this trend of liking Pilates since our mothers and even grandmothers were interested in it too. There’s no shame towards it as long as you found a method of staying active.
Totally valid. Why we all do different things. It's fine to just do what you feel works with your lifestyle, mind, preference. We're not all Olimpians for a reason
I did a calorie deficit for like 2-3 weeks and I lost over 14 pounds. And it was like 800-1500 a day. Now I’m eating a “normal” amount and im still losing weight for some reason. The point I’m trying to make is that everyone’s body is weird and different. Also, losing those pounds has probably got me moving around more too
i’ve recently lost a lot of weight quickly too bc i had to be on a very severely strict diet for medical reasons for a week but it definitely wasn’t healthy. please don’t diet that hard intentionally again, it’s really unhealthy. any amount of calories below your BMR if you’re walking around and not bedridden is too little and can damage your metabolism bc your body will try to adapt, and may cause weight gain after you return to a normal amount. 200-500 calories below maintenance is a good rule of thumb to safe healthy weightloss. good luck on your journey 🤍
Pilates is amazing, but not for weight loss. It does help tone your body, which might make you look thinner. I used to lift but saw no results and felt weak, so I started doing Pilates to help me with my breathing (since I run) and to feel stronger. It isn´t easy, despite looking like it, and it requires constant training - I recommend doing it at least 4 times a week for 30-40 minutes, even if you´re doing it at home. I also recommend the channel "Move with Nicole" and her plans.
@@louintheworld I started at home because I was kind of embarrassed of going to a class since I had zero coordination haha I started with beginner workouts to help me control my breathing and posture (and this is really important!!) and gradually moved onto intermediate and advanced workouts with and without equipment like dumbbells or resistance bands. Pilates works a lot for me because I fell in love with the sport so I do it pretty much everyday and that is the key - to find something that you enjoy and don´t grow tired of. In my case, Pilates combined with running, yoga, walking and kickbox has changed my body for the better
@@Sayori98 Thanks for the reply & wow that's amazing you found what works for you! So you never went to an in person class ? Where i live it's very expensive so that's why I'm thinking into learning by myself :( Did you mostly learn on Move with Nicole's channel ?
@@louintheworld here in Portugal classes are very expensive as well and quite rare in the area where I live. I learned the basics through PsycheTruth (another channel) and once I felt comfortable I jumped right away to Move With Nicole. Her classes are great, the pace, the movements... I can’t recommend her enough ❤️
@@Sayori98 wow that's great, i'm gonna follow this channel too! Thank you so much, you inspired me a lot. I thought I would not manage to do it alone at home, but I'm just gonna push myself to practice at least 3 times a week
Madisyn you should make a video about choosing to be child free, parenting in general, and pros and cons. It's a topic I've seen lately and people have very controversial opinions. I really like the way you talk about things in a professional but lighthearted way. Love your videos!!
I love that having goals isn't being seen as insecure or disordered! We have the power and control over what we want to look like and feel. I love Pilates, but I personally like functional and strengh training too!
Something about the gym is so overwhelming and anxiety inducing. I feel so inadequate around gym rats and it makes me just to turn to my ED to "solve" my body dysmorphia problems.
Idk atmosphere here just INFURIATES me as soon as I walk in a gym I just get very irritated and defensive and it never happens when I do same workout at home
So true gym goers leave No chance to belittle Those Who workout from home. Always underestimating home workouts including pilates but when it is Their turn they pant like crazy doing it.
14:44 THANK YOU!!! Everytime I workout, eat healthy or try to go on a run my mom always has to say like "Oh why are you working out/eating healthier/running you look perfect already?" And it's like 1. No I don't and 2. because I want to get stronger and gain stamina with the addition of looking healthier! I've told her this too and she always manages to bring it up some how with the words slightly twisted. When she says something like that it really downgrades my spirit and I know she does it because she loves me and doesn't want me to fall into an eating disorder but like can't I try to look my best & have goals for myself? So thank you because you've given me that motivation again
litterally. and as an overweight person... ik you're lying to me. medical professionals tell me i need to loose weight so why tf are you looking at me and telling me my body is perfect🕴 i feel trapped in it and i'm tired of feeling tired😭
I don't do Pilates but intermitted fasting, walking and calorie counting has helped reduce a lot of my fat. i'm happy with my results so far, still going.
If you’re going regularly 3-4 times a week and you’re doing it correctly - yes, Pilates absolutely will get you results. I only do Pilates. Been doing it consistently for four months and my muscular strength is 10x what it was before I started. I’ve also lost inches and clothing sizes. The number on the scale will not go down very quickly because Pilates, if done correctly, will lead to the development of muscle. The classes I take are hard. The movements are complex and consist of a lot of variations of planking, squatting, lunges and other functional movements that result in strength gain. My instructors also incorporate weights so we can do further resistance training. If you’re not getting results from Pilates, you are either not consistently doing it or you aren’t doing the movements correctly. Also, I think it better to do Pilates with an instructor so if you’re making mistakes in your form, they can correct you. At the end of the day, any exercise will give you results if you’re consistent and in a calorie deficit. There is no secret to fat loss.
I love Pilates, I typically do 10-20 minutes everyday as part of my morning movement alongside 5-10 minutes of stretches. I also do 2 60 minute classes per week. I love how it makes me feel 😍 But I also lift weights 3-4 times a week, and do cardio 4-6 days a week. Balance is key. Not one type of exercise solve all solution. Fitness and exercise is something your body needs for way more than just weight loss and “aesthetics”. It’s about time that we focus on the long term benefits of movement, as well as the mental benefits. Body trends come and go, it’s always been that way, but our bodies are worth more than a trend will ever be Take care of yourself, find ways to move your body that makes YOU feel good and that YOU enjoy. Eat well and plentiful and treat yourself. We all deserve it ❤❤
Your description of solidcore is SO accurate LMAO. I love solidcore but I also love EDM, the low lights and my favorite instructor is white but she's REALLY cool
i’m so glad u made this video, i think pilates is a great accompaniment to lifting especially since it gives you a good stretch but it’s soooo annoying seeing all these tik tok girlies talking about how pilates changed their bodies when they clearly lift lmao
@@sunshineyellow you cannot build significant muscle without resistance, and pilates simply doesn’t cut it! i’m not being silly, it’s just science, don’t believe everything an influencer tells you! ☺️
trends tend to promise the process of working on yourself more efficient. but in turn miseducates us and makes that process even longer. you cant speed up self growth.
A lot of women are in a hyper stress environment and Pilates a low impact workout replacing the high intensity put them in a hormonal state that allowed the excess fat to finally be used. The body holds on to fat in times of stress. Cortisol…
Have you considered that it became so popular because it actually works and it actually makes you feel good? I'm doing pilates at home, along with HIIT training and I go running twice per week. I haven't spent any money and I already see the results. Of course I'm careful of what I eat as well. But my point is pilates is hard and it does work. But it's still more enjoyable and easier to keep you motivated than other forms of exercise which honestly I struggle to keep up with.
This! I weighlifted for a some time (2 years regulary) and as I am getting older I am tired of gyms/food/progress tracking/progressive overload to see results. I find pilates very femine and gentle way of moving and I think am growing to a woman who likes to move gently and with elegance even when not excercising. I find weighlifting community a bit harsh on this topic and idk why... because both communities have the same goals but different mindsets.
@@lenkahomolova3715😂no. Pilates obviously doesn't want to grow much muscle at all. No progressive overload= no progress. You want elegance? Well. Olympians on rings got the largest biceps among any Sports that isn't specifically a weightlifting competition. Definitely elegant.
she never said pilates is bad or it doesn't work, she's saying a lot of the claims of pilates are just a pipe dream. I do pilates from time to time but my body didn't get the shape it has because of pilates only (I have a lean, toned look). A lot of pilates instructors make it look like you can get that kind of body with 15-30 mins of daily pilates only but that's not true.
Pilates Is fun for me because it forces me to be PRECISE. To mind my form instead of my Speed. Kind of like yoga without the transicions. I do know, however, that it Wont gimme that super Tiny waist or large back. The fact people promote the thinness aspect instead of the "reconnect with your body and develop coordination" one grosses the living F out of me.
Yeah I have bad joint hypermobility so for me pilates is great for joint stabilisation/ strengthening the muscles that hold my joints together. I don't do it for any other reason than just generalised strength and stability for my floppy ass joints. But I also do yoga and Pole dancing and go walking occasionally. I've been building some amount of muscle bulk since starting Pole classes 6 months ago (still don't look "bulky") but for me pilates has always been primarily about stability more than anything else
I work at a Pilates studio and have been doing may Pilates since Denise Austin. It does whittle you down significantly especially in the waist. With so much focus on oblique, core and pelvic shape, I’ve never been more snatched in my life.
Pilates got me into fitness. I eventually needed more to feel like I got a workout in, so I make it one of my low impact exercises. I think it's important to have lots of variety in your workouts. Everything works together. Yoga helped my breathing techniques, so I can run longer. Weightlifting helps me tackle the more complicated yoga poses I wasn't able to do before. It's always fun to see how much Ive changed. What used to be difficult for me is now easy. I love it.
I started doing Pilates like 3 days ago and i love it. I am very unfit and wasn’t able to do most of the „normal“ workouts on youtube. Weight lifting isn’t an option either bc i am so weak.. i found some pilates workouts which i was able to do and i like that i finally can do certain things. I am much more energetic feel great (bc i finally move my body) and i think that its nice for me to start and to getting a bit stronger. I was very unhappy after every workout i tried bc i couldn’t do 95% of it so pilates helps me a lot. I would like to see a video of someone that reviews it after a long time to see what it actually does but couldn’t find anything. Interesting video tho
I have at least an hour of ballet every night (usually two since I have two classes most days) and I do weightlifting when I’m not at school; I’ve always wanted to try Pilates for the stretching and strength benefits for dance, but the problem is that everything about exercise for women is marketed as being to “help you get that beach body” and it’s awful. I’ve fallen into the pit of body dysmorphia a few times and seeing the regrowth of the “Pilates princess” thing has made me more nervous. As a side note, to any women thinking about picking up weightlifting/strength training, do it!!! It feels wonderful and getting “bulky” takes a lot more work than people tell you it does.
Yes omg fellow ballet dancer/weightlifter here. I hate the stigma around being muscular/lifting weights. The whole Pilates princess culture is kinda off-putting. It reminds me of my ED days lol
I switched from reformer pilates to barre3 because it incorporates cardio- it helped me lose weight and I’ve been doing it almost a year now :) regular pilates doesnt include cardio. I found that both helped me get toned! I don’t think doing it twice a week is enough to see Lori Harvey results- she has shared her workout plan and also does lots of running and eats in almost dangerous calorie deficits
Were you also doing a calorie deficit or just focusing on the workouts? I honestly find it hard to stop eating meals that I enjoy however I have stopped eating junk food and am trying to stop consuming a lot of sugar.
6:31 yes, focusing on diet is one aspect, but if you're very active like a swimmer or a person on track, you can get away with eating 10 pizzas and not focusing too much on diet really, still being in a caloric deficit for fat loss. however, in terms of pilates, it depends on its intensity by how rigorous it is and its overall duration. i havent done pilates before, so im not too sure.
I started going to a pilates class last year, a few months after getting a muscle tear in my shoulder at work (it was a manual job with a lot of handling of heavy work) as a form of exercise that would gently help me to strengthen my muscles again without overdoing it and causing more harm (I've done some physio approved exercises with resistance bands but am still afraid of weight lifting). I've found that along with reduced pain I've also enjoyed seeing how my body can move and becoming aware of other muscles in my body I didn't know I had haha. I feel a little stronger again and I've noticed that's made me feel more positively about my body again knowing I'm taking steps to keep it healthy and reasonably functional, but it hasn't made me any skinnier! Exercise in general apparently also helps to maintain cognitive health, so another reason to do it
FINALLY. Do the GRWM gym sets how unnecessary and plastic they are please I can't wait to see memes about it, we need to wake these people up. Maybe the glass skin trend next
honestly i dont even do pilates i just use the pilates pink princess aesthetic to keep myself motivated for working out since i feel with more energy when i use a cute option
honeslty same, but this is all you need to know: WEIGHTLIFING: build or mantain muscle, CARDIO: improve cardiovascular health, build stamina, will most likely lose muscle and WILL lose fat, PILATES/at home workouts: build muscle but not become "bulky" since you are just using your own bodyweight, except pilates is a lot more intense since it is very slow and precise movements, so does it work? most definitely, but NOT without the proper diet, same goes for weighttrianing or cadio- NONE OF IT will work without a proper diet and when I say proper I mean what is suitable for YOUR NEEDS. if you as a man or a woman wants to build muscle, you'll both need a certain diet, if you on the other hand want to become more lean but not "bulky" BUT TONE UP FROM BEING SKINNY FAT, then you'll have to do and eat other things. THERE IS NO QUICK FIX that has lastign results. that's why most people gain a lot of weight back after a diet, because if you wan tlong lasting results you need it to be your lifestyle not a diet. then again if you're a bodybuilder or athlete your diet prob changes a lot. WHICH AGAIN IS CUZ WE HAVE DIFF NEEDS GODDAMNIT. another important thing you have to remember: just because u follow the exact same workout routine and diet as some girl/guy, does NOT mean you'll look exactly like them, you cannot get an hourglass figure if that's simply not how you are build, I know that's a bummer but it is the truth. just like nose shaping workouts or wtv they're called don't work either, you cannot change you're build like that with exercise. just become healthy and lose the weight you want and be happy, the only way to truly be happy is to accept to live with what you have when there's truly nothing u can do to change it, make smth good out of it, learn how to style clothes that fits your body type. and please remember there is no such thing as spot reducing!! u cnano pick and chose where you want there to be fat and where you'd don't want there to be, but ofc you can chose which muscles you'd like to grow bu working those muscles. but if you want to lose that arm, thigh or stomach fat, you'll have to lose weight overall. Remember kids, these influencers are NOT doctors, a lot of the quick hacks u see online r fake, the quick cleanse smoothies, and some weird supplement, just have a normal well-balanced diet, then again accordingly to your goals. wnat clear skin, hair and nails, well cut out the sugar and processed food, and if u still have problem THEN you can go ahead and experiment with those skincare products. I am no doctor either, but I did my research and have learnt from my own mistakes. You cannot deny science
I have SVT and autoimmune thyroid. I went from lifting double plates, to gaining 15kg and being unable to lift cause of my heart rate. I got inro pilates to build my strength and indurance, and actually, it leaned me out a lot, i lost 20kg and mabaged to get back into lifting for the first time in 3 years.
I've been genuinely looking into pilates as a strength training exercise. I'm at a healthy weight and I have a healthy diet and I exercise for my well-being, not for trends. Weight lifting has been hard as someone who can't drive and struggles to get to the gym. I have been doing a bodyweight strength training exercise and it has been okay, but I feel like I want to do more. You did an excellent job discussing the history. As a yogi, I love that pilates offers mindful strength training. This helped me to better decide to proceed with incorporating pilates into my routine.
I think it's self-righteous to say that being bored with a workout routine equates to not wanting the results badly enough. Maybe, just maybe, the gym and physical activity isn't what some consider fun or interesting. I don't particularly think that these influencers are lying when they say they only do pilates. We also must consider their lifestyle and whether or not it's objectively sedentary. I like walking, play fighting, dancing around, and playing at the park with my niece. Do I personally view that as exercise? No. But others might. Regardless, it still aids in weight loss/maintenance. Add consistent pilates on top of that, you get a fairly athletic physique without other "official" workouts.
Agreed. I did the same lift routine for 7 months straight and got so bored I almost stopped going. Switched up a couple sets and the days I workout and it's helped tremendously
Yeah that tiktok video didn't sit right with me as someone with ADHD. You can absolutely want something really badly but not have the skills or mental resources to put the time and energy into it, especially if it is boring to you. Does that mean there aren't ways around that? No of course not, but it's certainly not fair to say someone struggling to stick to a routine simply "doesn't want it enough "
I will say, I'm a women who comes from a family genetically pre-disposed to a lot of muscle gain. At the same time, I know I'm an outlier in this scenario. I was called 'Chad' in high school because of how muscly I was, when all I did was netball. Even when I go to the gym, trainers will reassure me I won't bulk up, and when I do, they get really surprised. When I learned about pilates, I was really surprised and thought it was a fad. But after a few years of being sedentary I decided I needed to find a sport or exercise activity I would enjoy. Pilates was my closest match. I started, and it was right for me. For the first time in my life I'm flexible. My posture is improved, my back pain is gone, and I've toned up a lot, but not nearly as much as I used to. I've made friends in the classes I regularly go to, I enjoy the exercise and how it feels. At the end of the day, find an exercise or sport that suits your goals, needs and enjoyments. That's the best way to find an activity that you will stick with long-term that will give you what you need. I WILL SAY, I'M NOT SNATCHED. I DON'T HAVE A TEENY TINY WAIST. I also don't use social medias (the only one I have is IG for DMs and RUclips for when I'm bored), so thank you for this video, I've learned a lot. EDIT: Thank you to everyone in the comments teaching me what a pink ballerina aesthetic is and the history of all these different aesthetics and things. I really appreciate everything I'm learning about the internet
The only reason I’ve been doing more yoga/Pilates than weightlifting and such these days is because my mental health went on a downward spiral, and I just couldn’t bring myself to workout at all for a while no matter what, so this is my stepping stone until I feel mentally okay again. Then, I’ll start incorporating more weight training again, and judging by my progress, it should be sooner rather than later. 💗 I am very grateful.
I think pilates is a really good exercise to begin with your workout journey! There’s a lot of youtube videos for beginners to follow and I think it’s easy enough to keep up with and won’t make you burn out from working out. I started doing pilates a few months ago consistently (3x/week) and I’ve noticed so many positive changes! In my flexibility, in my back pain, in my overall posture I started weight lifting in the beginning of this year and pilates has helped me a lot in my form
I recently started pilates at home with no equipment just a mat. I've been incredibly inactive since I graduated high school to the point where it's taken a negative toll on my body, and it honestly feels like the best type of exercise for me in my current point in life. I'm pretty underweight but doing nothing isn't helping me gain my appetite either so I'm doing pilates just to get goooingg and moving for now! It's nice not to feel like a blob everyday and have your muscles be sore for doing something good for yourself! It's a start!
Looove this video. I just started last week adding it into my workout routine cause I feel like it’s really convenient when I don’t know what else to do after completing lower body/upper body/full body strength training. It’s a great addition and nice for the girlies who don’t fw high impact workouts 😌💕 But definitely not expecting an insane transformation
i'm old enough to assure all young women watching this video that time is indeed a flat circle, and the "pilates girl" has definitely walked amongst us before. she is the same as "soulcycle girl" and "yoga girl" and "clean eating girl" and "tracy anderson method girl" and "plant-based for the health benefits girl", etc etc ad nauseum. exercise is great. do it if you can and want to. do what makes you and your body feel good. try new things for the hell of it, maybe you'll like it too. but pay no mind to the trendiness of things.
Pilates has been so big in the kpop world. I've been hearing about it for probably 6/7 years now because of idols trying to be in shape instead of, you know, not eating.

i do barre which is kind of similar to pilates but the focus is a bit different and it is easier on wrist (disability) and jog 5-8 miles 4 days a week. I get people asking me for my workout routine constantly but the answer they want they won't like. we also have to discuss bone strutcture. my waist is small because i have small ribs. that is literally it, nothing i actually do helps me with that. same for my hips, theyre wider because of my ilium, my grandmother has the same and hers and so on. Too many women expect too much from excercise when some things are impossible without surgery to alter them. I met a woman once who was crying terribly because she wanted that hourglass figure, she lost 100+ pounds going to the gym and strict dieting, she still had broad shoulders and slim hips and not a damn thing would change that. It doesn't matter what people want, if their bone structure and fat distribution say otherwise then it won't happen without heavey anesthesia, couple weeks being bedridden and an expensive surgery bill. I love barre, I do like pilates as well and how they make me feel and have done both for years but expecting a change to your skeletal system, and genetically given fat distribution is absurd.

What made me look up pilates was because of sza actually on her ‘special’ song on sos it expresses her wanted to be the other “it” girls who the guy she’s interested in to get noticed. There was one line on the song where she discussed how she wanted a different body type ‘I wanted to be thick, now I wanna be thin Heard Pilates is in’ I think she is referencing the TikTok trend to be thin and the pink Pilates princess trend im not TikTok so I wasn’t understanding what sza was saying now I do now I love that song even more.
I use pilates as a supplement to any other training I've done and for rehabilitation/better alignment/muscular awareness. Interesting to see how a practice with holistic benefit is becoming *aestheticized*
I remember someone once told be you don’t get ripped/bulked by accident
im a guy and its wild, i weight lift and im 100% natural, no roids etc, and im 5'4 and can bicep curl 50 pounds..... and i dont look bulky at all and im a guy! ive seen 6'1 guys curling 30 who are way bigger than me and i suspect theyre on roids........i promise its not gonna make you bulky, youd have to be the most genetic abnormality ever. im really strong for my height and size and a guy and im still not bulky. you have to take performance enhancers to really get bulky... for most people. the truth nobody wants to talk about. go look at all the old world pre 1950s body builders. these guys arent even bulky, they look skinny compared to body builders now, and yet, are probably 4x as strong. the bulky look, on both men and women equally, is USUALLY from performance enhancing drugs (PEDS). obviously theres men and women who are genetic anomalies who will be bulkier etc with lifting but i really wanna dispel the myth that everyone will always get bulky. they wont! i promise
Unfortunately, I bulk out really fast. Speaking from experience, my thighs are ~ripped~ after a couple summer weeks of cycling every other day :I
@@xg2513 I'm a guy too and I don't look like a mass monster despite lifting for about 2 years now.
Go get it, girl. I’m proud of you!!!
Don’t let these fake body positive freaks talk you down from Pilates. Do what makes YOU happy and exercise how you want ❤
just do what you want and fits with you, honey, if you feel good doing it and take care of you, it's fine
I have PCOS my hormones are off the charts . I can’t do heavy workouts or cortisol goes high so Pilates changed my life . I also got curvier not skinnier from Pilates !
do what u want and what makes u feel better
the pink princess pilates is supposed to replace the ballerina aesthetic, where most people who enjoy the aesthetic realize that being a ballerina takes a lot of work and it actually isn't easy. So the pink and feminine aesthetic of ballerinas was then integrated into pilates so that more people can easily hop into the trend without being called a fraud for not practicing the extensive exercises needed to be a ballerina.
p😮
ballerinas usually start from a really young age, a lot of us didn’t have that luck so u bet ima move onto the next thing
@@anti_fragile as good as ur making it seem, i doubt many people would start at 18 (how old i am) as there’ll be literal 6 year olds better than me
@@arissahusayn4874 unless you went to a school for prodigies, the 6 year olds would be learning the very basics of ballet by doing their fun little short routines lol. and i don't know if you've ever been around a group of young children but teaching them anything is like pulling teeth. at your age you would have an easier time learning and would improve at a faster rate than the small children. you're 18, you're not on your deathbed and you're not unteachable. you would be surprised at the amount of people your age and older who are just starting dance. i don't mean to push you into taking dance classes if you've moved past that passion but if the only thing keeping you from signing up is the idea that you're "too old" or not good enough then you shouldn't let that hold you back.
Muscles can make you burn fat so it does
@@amaniyamara9650 you're right, muscles do help burn fat.
And flexibility. Pilates and yoga are genuinely good for flexibility.
This!!!!! Pilates make you look slim and compact in your muscles, it burn fat because is hard to do but don't make you look extremely thin.
(Sounds so woo-woo but it works for me :,0)
don’t feel guilty, I have a similar experience lol pilates is the only exercise I truly love, because it’s so fluid and intentional, and core building. idk it just makes me feel good about being in my body. people need to stop going after something because they think it’ll give them a certain aesthetic, and instead find and keep to movement that they enjoy because it’s good for the body and mind
dance and pilates is the only movement i enjoy
Pilates changed my life for the best physically mentally
wait why is this my exact story too!
its also great for neck issues!
Pilates changed the game for me!! Physically and mentally. So challenging and grounding! I was killing myself with excessive weight lifting and cardio… this makes me feel so much better
Yes! Low intensity workout is ideal for women
did you find it more effective?
Yes, same! For me personally it's easier to be consistent with pilates then with anything else
same girl!
during a really depressive phase, i started doing those arm circle workout and i kinda knew it’s not going to do much aesthetically, it did help to just get me out of bed and maybe even from then on, move a bit more. sometimes i just did 5 mins of arm whatever waving around, sometimes i then did some dancing for another 20 mins. and that really helped me with dealing with my depression. because i then moved more overall, i didn’t lose weight, but i stopped gaining weight. so i really recommend those few mins arms, just to get yourself motivated to move, since it is not that much but better than nothing :)
Glad you’re feeling better :)
I’m currently lifting 4x a week and doing yoga 2 times a week. This combo of both strength training and flexibility training have been working very well for my body :)
that’s amazing!! sounds like a really good combo
Same routine here which I love, although people keep telling me I need to add Cardio to lose my belly fat :(
I follow the same workout split!🎉
yes, this is my favourite split atm ! i switch between dumbells and yoga, and then do almost exclusively pilates instead of the dumbells the week before my period, before switching back to the strength - yoga combo for the rest of my cycle and its been working for consistency and feeling great for my body
One of the biggest scams on with any type of exercise is that it will make you skinny, which it really doesn't, it makes you fitter, significantly, but it's not guaranteed to make you skinny. And the fact that people are being encouraged to do exercise to get skinny is so annoying to me because you should exercise but not cause you think it will make you skinny
Edit: I realise the tone of this sounds like I am looking down on people for wanting to be skinny and I apologise for that. I personally do not care, it's your body, you get to decide what you do with it
What I actually disagree with is this whole culture of pressuring people to lose weight or to gain weight, to essentially look and be a certain way irrespective of what works for them and the way people are pressured to exercise so they can get to the weight other people think is best for them rather than emphasising the other more tangible benefits of exercise.
Hiii
Sorry I'm not really educated on this topic, but I'd like to know more. Could u please explain why exercises dont make people skinnier? Dont they help to lose calories? What about cardio exercises?
You can want to be skinny. You are moralizing peoples personal desires based on your own experiences.
Yeah exactly. Exercise is to maintain your cardiovascular system, insulin production and improve lung capacity. Vanity is killing people's brains.
Yup. This.
I technically agree, but I personally saw insane results from reformer pilates after only a month of doing it.

I'm sitting on my ass all day every day, and exercising regularly is
a) making me get up earlier when I used to have a messed up sleep schedule,
b) making me leave my flat if only for an hour each day and
c) helping my hips/back/posture sooooo much.
I think if someone is doing exercise because of a trend then they're not really doing it for themselves. They're doing it to fit in.
It’s naive to think that fitting in isn’t important and a valid goal. It isn’t everything but it’s a strong motivator for people and makes them more sociable

So many people don’t actually wanna be skinny, y’al just wanna be what’s in. I understand tho. Honestly my advice would be to get rid of a lot of your social media for some time and actually evaluate yourself.
My friend always talks about the times she was super skinny, and my classmate wears too-tight clothes because she is convinced that she cannot put on any weight. my cousin is an actual pilates instructor, masters degree in physical education). it works, its hard, but the 15-20 minute workouts wont help you. you need to do it regularly but also do it for a longer time and eat right. but she is also just generally super skinny by nature
As is with any workout. Its about the consistency. 15-20 minutes a day will at least put you in the right direction.
Exactly and this applies to everything! I'm a weightlifter who does an hour in the gym 4 days a week, all of that would mean nothing if my diet wasn't supplemental to my training :)
It’s also just a really great exercise regime to stay toned and fit overall. I mean ya, it’s not plastic surgery, so it’s probably not going to get you as “snatched” as ya know, plastic surgery would (which a lot of celebrities use) that claim it’s just “pilates, green juice, and lots of water” 🙄😒
But it is a good health habit to include in your overall routine. 💁🏽♀️
15-20 minutes work outs will most DEFINITELY help! What are you talking about? Sure, yes. You might not lose weight like that but 15-20 minutes of a pilates workout can benefit your heart, muscles, and mental health 💪

idc drinking water literally changed my whole life
Usually because these people do not drink any water at all before developing that habit. If you go from solely drinking soda/juice/coffee to drinking even one glass of water a day you're going to feel a lot better.
@@Koshkinayekaterina how are u gonna try and tell somebody what they don't have if u don't even know them or never even seen them 😭
I’m here and ready to listen to these opinions of yours cause I’m always weary of ‘trends’ or ‘styles’ or whatever that involve not just a fashion aesthetic but also a specific body type/diet/exercise
What shape, in your opinion, does pilates give you vs weightlifting?
@@d1a1l1e cant really make ur waist tiny (except ur losing weight) u just make ur back/glutes bigger
I'm just sad that 90% of the comments are about fat loss :(
I don't mind keltie but she gives ed vibes
@@azaria4447 oh interesting what makes you say that? Always got the impression she wanted to live a more balanced lifestyle both physically and nutritionally (especially after her body building days) but maybe I need to revisit
Also, after rereading this feel like it may read as my disagreeing with Madisyn. Want to clarify I love this video and adding an additional comment in support of her thought process!!
So people shouldn’t exercise to lose weight? Or should all women should deadlift and get bulky because you makes your fragile ego feel better?
as someone who does Pilates it 1000% makes you more toned.
This! Except I have PCOS so sometimes it’s like I’m always on gear lol
The burning doesn't always mean that you're working your muscle in a way that will make it stronger or bigger. Do more research about it.
@@danysus7136 lol yes I know. Pilates just burns it like no other
i was soooo over the pilates trend when i saw some girls say they “stopped working out like a man” (aka weightlifting) and it helped fix their hormones. ??? i think it ties into the trend of coming into
your feminine energy or whatever. my opinion on exercise is when you find a genre of working out that you like, stick with it because anything is better than nothing
Glad you commented this, I was thinking it too 😊
Like do you mean it’s physically impossible to have 0% body fat or that it’s just very uncommon/dangerous to have 0% body fat?
@@Valentineatelier It is physically impossible
Good video 👍🏻
i think pilates can be a really good way for people who are intimidated by the gym and higher impact exercise to get into daily consistent movement and people with less strength (like me) to start off with body weight exercise. that being said i did not lose 25 pounds from the daily pilates it was definitely from a calorie deficit/addressing my binge/restrict cycle
i’m all for pilates personally but its definitely not a magic potion. even with the big weight loss putting me at a weight probably not too far off from the pilates influencer girlies i definitely dont have a flat stomach or a super snatched waist and i know that pilates wont magically give me that!
how did you maintain the weightloss?
@@AnaLu07 this made me so happy! I’m glad to hear that, I train in a studio we’re we do both Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu, I really like it so far🤝.
so i grew up modelling & i've had about 8 years of experience in the industry so i feel like i know what i'm talking about -- all the models who do pilates emphasize what they already have. i have abs naturally without doing a damn thing. when i do pilates or vinyasa, they do get a bit more noticeable/defined. A BIT. SLIGHTLY. i haven't met a single model who doesn't have their body type through either genetics and/or restrictive eating.
I’ve been doing it for years and I do it because it’s exercise and I believe everyone should have some form of exercise in their routine because it’s healthy for the mind and the body :)
ngl pink pilates princess feels like the american version of "parisian ballerinacore"
I personally love it and the whole aesthetic around it
Yeah me to I find it rlly motivating so I can work towards living that soft life but I also agree with a few points madi pointed out x

My plan is Pilates for muscle toning/maintenance, yoga for stretching muscles and balance, and some form of cardio or long walks for weight loss
I also recommend the channel "Move with Nicole" and her plans.
did you went to pilates classes at first, or only online classes? I'm trying to start.. thanks for the channel recommendation I'look into it :)

Body trends come and go, it’s always been that way, but our bodies are worth more than a trend will ever be

Finally someone with sense
Yessss
I feel like Pilates would humble me 😮💨
I have at least an hour of ballet every night (usually two since I have two classes most days) and I do weightlifting when I’m not at school; I’ve always wanted to try Pilates for the stretching and strength benefits for dance, but the problem is that everything about exercise for women is marketed as being to “help you get that beach body” and it’s awful.
I notice for a lot of women around 140-150 lbs you can look super snatched very fast in comparison to other workouts
"Abs are made in the kitchen" type beat

I have to switch up my routine every 2-3 months or else the gym becomes a chore instead of actually fun so you're right
Yeah that tiktok video didn't sit right with me as someone with ADHD.
In my flexibility, in my back pain, in my overall posture
I started weight lifting in the beginning of this year and pilates has helped me a lot in my form
I had no idea about the origins, that’s so interesting! Thanks for the info
Pilates has been so big in the kpop world. I've been hearing about it for probably 6/7 years now because of idols trying to be in shape instead of, you know, not eating.
A reminder I needed today🎀this video is so important ty for making it
It'll prolly takes months but people get mad when it doesn't work out at once

i’m sorry but i’m obsessed with your workout fits
i do barre which is kind of similar to pilates but the focus is a bit different and it is easier on wrist (disability) and jog 5-8 miles 4 days a week.
Girl first off you are super gorgeous and second I love everything you just said and I’m totally here for it. Glad you are speaking the truth unlike a lot of RUclipsrs who just want to sell us shit lol.
like in every "trend" that is supposed to make you lose weight / make you look skinny quick: There's no shortcut, you have to put in the work (as you have put it nicely in the video). Thank you for the insights! 🙏

girl be fr, pilates can help you look more toned. yall love putting people down due to your own experience like everyone isnt different
I’m not watching the video but from the title and my own experience I can very much say Pilates DOES make you snatched
What made me look up pilates was because of sza actually on her ‘special’ song on sos it expresses her wanted to be the other “it” girls who the guy she’s interested in to get noticed. There was one line on the song where she discussed how she wanted a different body type ‘I wanted to be thick, now I wanna be thin
Heard Pilates is in’ I think she is referencing the TikTok trend to be thin and the pink Pilates princess trend im not TikTok so I wasn’t understanding what sza was saying now I do now I love that song even more.
Why do you love that song? She wants a certain body type to please some guy.
your gym fit is PHENOMENAL
I use pilates as a supplement to any other training I've done and for rehabilitation/better alignment/muscular awareness. Interesting to see how a practice with holistic benefit is becoming *aestheticized*
THANK YOU for speaking on this, this bothered me for a while 😭
