    “The singer is the instrument and yet they play the instrument. It’s a three part system. There’s the respiratory, which has to do with inhalation and exhalation. The source is where the sound is made. The filter is the vocal tract and if the body is not working optimally, you’re not going to be able to produce sound safely.” - Joan Lader
    2016 Tony Award Honoree Joan Lader is a legend to those who know her and those yet to know her. As one of the most esteemed vocal coaches in the business, Joan has worked with talent of all kinds to help them with both exploring and training of their respiratory and vocal tracts and guiding performers to find the best methods in achieving ultimate sound quality and type. Watch as she works with her clients Tony winners Renée Elise Goldsberry, Annaleigh Ashford, and Tony Nominees Michael McElroy and Raúl Esparza.

    The vocal coach in this video is Joan Lader. I first met Joan about one year into my Broadway run with “Movin’ Out”. I sang every song in that show and to be honest, I was in rough vocal shape. Joan Lader literally saved my voice and although I no longer live in New York, I still study with her over the Internet as well as whenever I’m in New York. I can tell you that there is no one better. There is no way I would’ve made it through the three year plus run with that show without Joan. I am forever grateful 🙏

      This is a lovely tribute. I saw you in that show. I've often wondered how you did it. It was CRAZY in my opinion and you sounded amazing. I teach youth musical theatre in California and I have mentioned the superhuman feat you accomplished 8 TIMES A WEEK!!!!

    It’s so incredible to get the chance to see theater professionals in action and for such beautifully produced videos of people with more years of experience than I’ve even lived to be available to everyone. Thank you so much.

    These actors were amazing to listen to. But I was really impressed by the guy at 6:20, amazing voice! And the woman at 9:20 was amazing too, I remember learning that warm up in musical theatre too. It's a pretty fun warm up 😄

    I like how she knows exactly what she's talking about when she's training the actor's voice. When she's talking about the voice of a person she goes into full description on what she's talking about and it helps me understand whats happening in the video. The singers in the video help with my point when they feel like their voices improve based off her training and thats something I admire.

    I'm a vocal soloist and coach as well, and im VERY glad I came across this video. Joan Lader appears to be a great teacher with some very useful techniques, exercises, and holistic approaches to developing the singing voice. I am definitely adding some of these warm ups to me, and my students daily vocal warm up routine!!

    • @TranceFormationMusic
      @TranceFormationMusic 6 лет назад +6

      Oh, dear. If you are getting sore, please find yourself a qualified teacher. That shouldn't happen. You could feel fatigued, but you shouldn't feel sore.

    • @MichaelCavanaughVideo

      If you’re doing them correctly, you won’t feel sore.

    I wonder would a theatre vocal coach use their time on a beginner who's not planning to perform? I love learning and the technique side would be fascinating...
