I studied the 'ring around the rosie' song in school last year, so I'll explain the lyrics for anyone who wants to hear: 'Ring around the rosy' This lyrics refers to the rash you get when you've caught the plague. A pink, rosy rash would appear on the inside of your thighs. This rash looked like a ring. 'A pocket full of posies' Posies are flowers that have a very strong smell. Plague doctors with the bird masks would stuff the flowers in the beak of the mask and in their pockets because it was believed that the smell would ward off the plague. 'Ashes, ashes' This one refers to plagued bodies being cremated. At the time they knew that burying the bodies would not stop the infection on the people from spreading so they would burn the bodies in a big pit. (Called a plague pit) 'We all fall down' This one is basically saying the plague is inescapable and we're all going to be infected at some point. That's all. Hope this was a good explanation 👍🏼
I think things like lullabies, children’s laughter, and other things related are scary in horror genre because it relates to the whole “this isn’t supposed to be this way...” thing. Like how abandoned schools and hospitals are off putting because they’re areas that are supposed to have big bustling groups of people. One doesn’t expect the darkness to have a child laughing or singing in it, and thus it is off putting.
You are absolutely correct! I believe the human brain finds things more terrifying when they see what ot's not supposed to be. For example, horror movies always depict monsters with something the either used to be human, isn't supposed to be human or it looks human but it isn't. Even though I cannot watch horror movies or horror videogames, horror illustration, 2D games, animations and comics/manga fascinate me with their character design and ambiance. Is it set in a house? How do you make it scary? Is it empty but it always has a feeling that it isn't? Is it cursed? Does it have ominous marks? Do things happen when they're not supposed to? What about the character? Is it here when it should be dead? Does it appear out of nowhere when it's supposed to be empty? Does the presence of that being resemple something that it's not? How so? I love horror design, Junji Ito has made outstanding horror visuals and stories. My favourite one is one about a mountain that has holes in the shape of humans and it atracts people who find a hole that fits their body shape perfectly (not gonna spoil how it ends), the thing is, from the get go, you feel that something is wrong. Why would such a thing be there? Why does it have a perfect human shape? Why are people obsessed with it? Why are there shapes that fit certain people like a glove? Why does it have no end? Why? Chile, anyways...
Clara C. Yeah, exactly! kinda what children find scary, if you think about it. it’s almost right, but somethings off and sometimes you can’t even place a finger on it. things that are just _wrong_ . take dolls, for example. they resemble humans, but they don’t move. they look too lifeless and soulless for something that’s modelled after people. and that mountain one actually sounds pretty unsettling. just gives off a bunch of questions that you know can’t be answered, and that makes it all the more creepy.
A lot of lullabies and and nursery rhymes are about dark things already. “Rockabye baby, on the treetop. When the wind blows the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks the cradle will fall.” Like..why do people sing that to their children when they want them to SLEEP?
Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go. It followed her to school one day, which was against the rules. It made the children laugh and play to see a lamb at school. And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near, And waited patiently about til Mary did appear. "Why does the lamb love Mary so?" the eager children cried. "Well, Mary loves the lamb, you know!" the teacher then replied. One night Mary ran away, and left the lamb behind. Nothing but a tattered cloth of Mary's could they find. So people blamed the lamb you see, claimed Mary had gone mad. No one came to the lambs aid except the butcher's lad. They called him and the lamb a witch and burned them at the stake, Two years ago they found a dead girl floating in the lake. And still you hear the sobs and bleats, their faces red with jam. Still, people of the town burn cloth for Mary and her lamb.
Lavendertowne: I turn horror characters into cute people, so they're less scary! Also Lavendertowne: I turn nursery rhymes into scary characters, because why not?
Here are some names, and dark stories. Rosalie was a young girl who died from the Black Plague. Humpty Dumpty was a poet who committed suicide by jumping off the castle. The Three Blind Mice were triplets who were blinded, then hung for being different. Mary was a farm girl who was bullied for bringing a pet lamb to school. She led a pack of wolves to the school with lamb blood.
I feel like humpty was actually a very depressed man, and the "humpty dumpty had a great fall" is actually a reference to him breaking on the inside and the "all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put humpty together again" is a reference to therapist trying to help him bring his sanity back but in the end he committed suicide
Fun fact: London bridge is falling down is about sacrificing people so that London bridge would not fall down. Sometimes, (and I also played this game when I was little) kids singing the song will make an arch with their arms and have other kids pass under it. When the song is over, they put their arms down, trapping whoever is passing through. This is a reference to how in the olden days, when ever a bridge was built they would trap someone in the base to starve. This sacrifice supposedly kept the bridge from falling down.
It's also known that they literally used corpses to hold the bridge together, so it wasn't just a sacrifice in a "spiritual way" if you will, but rather a literal confession of murdering people and adding the bodies to the bridge. They even grounded the bones to make mortar out of them...
A lot of people can do that, like the less emotional ones (as in people who don’t show much emotion ON THE OUTSIDE). People feel this stuff in different ways
@@No1aonjupiter. I think it’s past tense because it refers to an old nursery rhyme. Like if you were telling a story, you would say “I walked to the store” not “I walk to the store” or “I will walk to the store”
fun fact: in the nursery rhyme Ring Around The Rosie, the line "ashes, ashes" was actually "achoo, achoo", but it got misheard over the years, like in an extremely long game of telephone
Honestly, as I’ve gotten older nursery rhymes have seemed quite unsettling. A while back I searched up the real meanings and was very terrified of what I found. One of the scariest ones I found was “ Rock-a-bye, baby “ if anyone is unfamiliar with this nursery rhyme here is how it goes, “ rock a bye baby, on the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks the cradle will fall, and down will come baby, cradle and all. “ there is a longer version which is even more unsettling. It is thought this lullaby is about a death wish to a infant.
There's a pretty good explaination for it: The rhyme narrates a mother gently rocking her baby to sleep in her arms, as if the baby were riding the treetops during a breeze; then, when the mother lowers the baby to her crib, the song says "down will come baby." I think this theory makes the most sense and makes the song wayyyy less horrifying
I remember growing up I only heard the "rock a bye baby on the tree top" part and I always thought it was odd just a few days ago my mom told me that whole part and I was pretty freaked out that people can sing such unsettling things to a child
What if humpty dumpty could be about depression, a man who was "broken" in his mind, with family and friends who tried to help him by "putting him back together", but he couldn't take it, so he sat upon the edge of a tall building, and "had a great fall", committing suicide?
I made a preposition poem for an assignment once: Up on the wall he sat with much joy. Near the wall there stood a little boy. Down to the ground, that fall would cause a big splat! Far from the ground young Humpty sat. Up on the wall he waved with pride. To the little boy who’s eyes went wide. Down below the little boy waved back. To the bright young Humpty who began to slack. Up on the wall the wind began to blow. At that time, the wind’s power did grow. Down, down Humpty did fall. Down, down quick as a ball. On the ground he landed with a thump. With a splat and also a bump. Into bits his body had scattered Into pieces his body had shattered. To the scene the king’s men came quick. To try and put him back together lickity split. Through and through they tried and tried. But Humpty had already died.
When I was younger, I re-wrote the “Mary had a little lamb” poem, as I had thought that Mary was a morbid creature, and the lamb was coming back for vengeance. I couldn’t find the original writing, as I had written it on a napkin late at night at the pool, but here’s what I could remember from it- “Mary had a little lamb, Little lamb, Little lamb, Mary had a little lamb which she ripped into shreds, It followed her across the town Across the town Cross the town It followed her and pulled her down And now she’s done for too.” I question the mind of little me.
When I was kid I could never remember “ring around the Rosie, a pocket full of posies, ashes ashes we all fall down” so I made me own version that I think went something like: “ ring around the Rosie, a monkey with toesies, husha, husha, we all fall down”
I have a creepy Mary had a Little Lamb story! "Mary had a little lamb who's fleece was white as snow, Everywhere that Mary went the Lamb was sure to go. She took her lamb to school one day, the kids let out loud cheers. They took her little lamb away as Mary choked on tears. Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was red as blood, she took the little body home and swore she'd hurt them good. Mary knew that lambs blood had something hidden deep, and as she wrote the signs of old never did she weep. Mary had a little lamb that made her something scary Go to the mirror, now I dare you. Whisper 'Bloody Mary'" It's a little cheezie, but it definitely scared me the first time I heard it.
So we are reading this book in class and the "Mary had a little lamb" rhyme was their but the last part was "it went to school woth her between two pieces of bread" or something like that i don't remember all that vividly
Omg you should have done this one: "Lizzy Bordon took an ax and gave her mother 40 wacks. When he saw what she haddone she gave her father 41." It's about real murders that happend. I think it would make for a great monster.
The rhyme doesn’t even specify that humpty-dumpty is alive, this is because it’s about a cannon!! That’s why “all the kids horses and all the kings men” try and put ‘him’ together again, instead of like, one doctor trying to. Also why humpty was even on a wall.
Common misconception, it was originally a type of old English riddle, one that was so common, it stopped being a riddle (The answer was an egg) which is why it doesn't state he is an egg. All the Kings horses line was added later with time
tnt kff I mean if you want to be pedantic about it no ones actually sure what the meaning is, both the theory of it being a riddle and it being about the cannon are both common theories.
me and my friend would sing this version we heard growing up Mary had a little lamb little lamb little lamb Mary had a little lamb its fleice was white as snow and every where that mary went mary went mary went the lamb would surely go Mary went to the butcher shop butcher shop butcher shop Mary went to the butcher shop and cut her lamb up the next day she was found dead was found dead was found dead the next day she was found dead and the lamb was back again Like every day in my elementary school you would hear 2, 7 year old's singing this
@Random person On earth I remember even as a really little kid when my mom sang it to me once it didn't feel right. After I pointed it out she had to explain it to me that she didn't really understand it either, and the melody was just nice, and the lyrics weren't... lol
At the end, she talks about how children singing and lullabies are used in horror movies and it reminded me of Plague inc. In the game, a pocket full of posies plays, but distorted. It deludes into the "pocket full of posies is about the black death" thing.
I used to think that Humpty Dumpty was about a toy some kid broke while playing with it. Supposedly, when the kid realised, they made such a big deal out of it that everyone in the surrounding area tried to fix it just to shut them up. Literally have NO idea why I thought that, or where that idea came from but yea
Theres probably an actual psychological reason, but I think that why adults/older people find little kids and nursery rhymes and things unnerving is because they represent a time of innocence, comfort, and naivete that they no longer have. It's like a slap in the face that the world isnt as safe as you thought it was, like when you're young you believe pretty much anything and everything you're told, and that's kind of a frightening concept.
I remember once in second grade me and my guy friends made our own version of “Mary Had A Little Lamb” and it went like this: “Mary had a little lamb, chick chick BAM, no more lamb! Mary loved that little lamb, especially in her stew” *good times*
me and my friend would sing this version we heard growing up Mary had a little lamb little lamb little lamb Mary had a little lamb its fleice was white as snow and every where that mary went mary went mary went the lamb would surely go Mary went to the butcher shop butcher shop butcher shop Mary went to the butcher shop and cut her lamb up the next day she was found dead was found dead was found dead the next day she was found dead and the lamb was back again Like every day in my elementary school you would hear 2, 7 year old's singing this
Mary had a little "lamb" Whose fleece was red with blood And everywhere that Mary went She dragged the "lamb" a long The children screamed, their parents gasped At such a gastly sight And one by one, a "lamb" was gone Each and every night
I hate how my brain came up with a story that the person described as Humpty Dumpty and the king were both gay for each other, and that the king tried his best to fix the one he loved, but it was futile and so his beloved died. The ghost of his beloved comes back to haunt him in a tragic tale of love and loss. I hate how my brain came to that. I hate it. Note: To all those who got hurt emotionally by my comment...well...I live to please :)
Looked up to the Three Blind Mice: "Three Blind Mice" The three blind mice in this story are supposedly the Oxford Martyrs, three Anglican bishops who refused to renounce their Protestant beliefs, and were executed by Mary for “blindly” following Protestant learnings rather than Catholic ones
It’s debatable if that’s true though as the original printings didn’t mention actually harming the mice and were written after Mary died. It still makes for a good story either way.
@@just-trying-my-best-everyday I don’t remember I was doing some Wikipedia deep dives at the time and I’ve long since forgotten what I was talking about.
Here are the supposed origins for each nursery rhyme: *Ring Around A Rosie:* 1. Basically what she said in the video, but for the other version of it- (There's a version which says 'Tissue, tissue we all fall down' instead) It reffers to the sicknesses they got along with the Plague since their immune systems were so bad 2. It could also be about the story of a girl named Rosie who was sent to the forest alone by her parents cause she had the Plague When she was walking around she had disturbed a man who tought she was a wild animal and set a ring of fire around her She then burned to ashes with the Posies she had in an attempt to ward of the Plague *Humpty Dumpty:* 1. There was a male poet who was favored by the king, so he was invited to the palace During the English war, it was said that a canon ball shot the wall he was walking along so he fell and died with it 2. Basically the story above, but instead of the wall he was shot in the face with the canon ball, and broke his head and killed him of course 3. Another version from the story above, instead of the English war however, he had killed himself by jumping off of the wall 4. Humpty Dumpty was actually a canon that fell of the palace ledge in the English war, kinda boring *Three Blind Mice:* The three blind mice were actually triplets who were all blind, and back in the old days this was considered cursed So you know what they did? They burned and tortured them in public, killing the triplets. *Mary Had A Little Lamb:* There was once a girl named Mary who had a pet lamb, but it wasn't 'white as snow'. It was actually a black diseased lamb that she brought to school everyday, and others bullied her for it. One day she had enough and led a pack of Wolves to the school with Lamb's blood, and they killed all the children and teachers Though it wasn't specified whether she was also killed by the wolves, set for execution, or if she killed her pet lamb for the blood
from what I have seen, Humpty Dumpty was a nickname for Richard III of England, due to his debilitating scoliosis, which made him have a "humpty" back. His horse, from which he fell, was nicknamed "Wall" due to its great size. He was unhorsed at the Battle of Bosworth Field, while surrounded by so many enemy soldiers that his own men couldn't get to him before he was brutally bludgeoned to death. However im not sure if this is the actual reason for the story.
Growing up I heard a different version of the ‘Jack and Jill’ song then other kids. In the song when Jack ran home after he broke his crown, Jill was laughing at him whilst he was putting in brown paper and vinegar. Their mother saw this and started hitting Jill with a wooden stick while Jack was just sitting there watching it.
Fun fact: Humpty Dumpty was actually a canon ball in a war, the canon ball sat on the wall, waiting to be fired, it fell and no one could get it back up, because it was so heavy.
So, I looked up the nursery rhyme. NO, the lamb doesn't get turned *inside out* or whatever. When the rhyme says, "The teacher turned it out" it means the teacher sent it out of the school house but it still lingered nearby, waiting for Mary to come out.
8:07 I knew Mary had a little lamb would be here and I wanted to say this: It is based on a true story with nothing sinister as you said, I know this very well since the nursery rhyme was made in my town. I know people that are her descendants and I think it’s really cool when people who probably live across the country from me know a something from a tiny town. Mary’s house still stands and it is really the coolest thing in town. (Other than the lamb statue in the center of town that is dressed up for holidays and seasons)
Comet Crusaders nono I’m being genuine sorry if it sounded fake lol. I had no idea the nursery rhyme was even based off of an actual thing so reading this was cool
Lizzy Borden took an axe. Gave her mother forty wacks When she saw what *she.* *had.* *done.* Gave her father forty one... :) (Lizzy Borden Skip Rope Ryme)
As someone who turns nursery rhymes creepy and scares my friends, I had to click on this video. Also I love the TPN lullaby in the backround, I’m obsessed with that song 🌱
I love how LavenderTowne uses a mix of Isabella’s Lullaby from Promised Neverland & Dectreum Lullaby from Madoka Magica as her background music in this video ; since both are beautiful yet horrifying in they’re own way.
“Humpty dumpty loomed over the wall, There he stood, broken and tall. All the kings armies and all the king’s men, We’re torn and shattered. Never to be seen again.”
One day, a king bought a porcelain doll for his wife, that doll was later given to the king’s son, who then named it “humpty dumpty”. On a fateful afternoon, The young prince carelessly let the doll sit on top of the castle walls. Of course, it fell and shattered. Now what the king neglected to tell anyone was that he bought the doll from a very old woman. She warned to take care of the doll, “mistreat it and it will cost you dearly.” She said as he left. Those were the words that rang through his ears as he watched something dark pour itself out of the broken shards of that doll. Soon a large towering figure stood high above the clouds. It’s visage was that of a torn and skeletal frame. It’s thin, emaciated Body segmented and broken like the doll that had been used to seal it away. The entity’s neck was long, too long. And above it’s neck sat a star of radiant light, not different from that of our sun. Surrounding and floating around this orb were shards of something that used to be it’s face. It’s arms were grotesquely long and broken in many places like glass, held together by some invisible force... The king fought the entity, countless men fought and countless weapons were raised in opposition to it... And just as many were burnt away into something less than ash. Leaving nothing but the boy and the rubble that was once the kingdom. The boy would soon find that his time with the doll led to the towering horror deciding to spare him. Instead of the sweet release of death.. he would be known as.. *The messenger of the broken god*
Bro i knew Ring around the rosie was bad when i first heard it around 4 or 5 . It was Ring around the rosies as in a Garden, pockets full of toesies, like toes cut off and ''ashes ashes, we all fall down'' as people getting burned to death. Yes, i wasn't Innocent.
4:35 This girl told another girl a kid almost cracked his head open and they started skipping and singing the song they were also my friends and I never expected them to act like that
Drawing idea: Rhymes about historical people in modern times. For example, “Lizzie Borden took an axe...” (Lizzie Borden, obviously), or “Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived” (the six wives of King Henry VIII). Basically rhymes about real people in the past as modern characters, so long as it’s not too insensitive, of course, considering Lizzie Borden’s rhyme or other rhymes I can’t think of about murderers.
the rhyme was always slightly unsettling to me because I couldn't get over that fact, I was like: "what happened to the lamb? Did it die? is this song mary and her family mourning the lamb? did she kill the lamb? did it run away?" there are so many directions that the story can go when you just think of the HAD, you know?
...wait...it followed her to school one day, school one day, it followed her to school one day which was against the rules... So...maybe bullying? Or was it taken away from her and killed? Or... I’m just scaring myself now
There is actually this french lullaby, which is about a farmer who had a little sparrow. The farmers wife was a bit mentally broken and she caught the sparrow and ripped into shreds. It states that the little sparrows spirit didn't want to leave the farmer so it took over the farmer wife's body and continued to live with the farmer. The wife became stuck in a time loop where she was dismantled everyday by herself in the sparrows body and felt all the pain the little sparrow felt. I have no idea why they would tell that to children, but that's the way it is.
yes, as the pretty nusery rhymes that children loves have horrifying backstories get more defined and turned into illustrations as the children's happiness gets shattered.
2:57 YES, I recently re-read the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme, and I got so freaked out because I realised: ‘Wait, he’s not an egg. They didn’t say he was an egg.’ Now I’m thinking of a guy falling off a wall (or jumping (Even darker)) and breaking his neck, and no one could heal him and bring him back. Hows that for a dark story?
Putting everything I heard together: Humpty Dumpty was very depressed because he was being bullied for being an egg and that caused him to be suicidal, and all the kings horses and all the Kings men where therapists trying to bring him back to sanity but he committed suicide when he jumped off the wall
I remember someone saying horror writers tend to use traditionally comforting things for their work bc of irony sake. Usually you would feel comforted and soothed by a lullaby, so using it to scare you adds to the shock factor
Lavender: “things with human faces but they are altered a bit scares me the most” SCP 096: *cries in sadness because it could have once been a human but was trapped in the mountains for decades and then became a monster* Me: that is what I call A normal day Also me: I forgot to sub let me do that real quick
I was a very creepy kid as a 4-7 year old According to my parents, I consumed my twin in the womb, and they said the way I acted as a 4-7 year old was like the twin I absorbed was haunting me, trying to get revenge for taking away her chance at living. My mom told me that I had this imaginary friend called Rainbow Gale, and at 12 AM I would start singing "ring around the rosey" with this so-called Rainbiw Gale. I would always do this at 12 AM exactly, and once it turned 12:01 AM, I would go right back to bed. However, each night my voice got louder and louder, until I turned 8, when I suddenly stopped. The thing is, I have no memory of singing the nursery rhyme at 12 AM or any memory Rainbow Gale. I only remember singing the rhyme at school with all the other kids, but it doesnt really end there. One time, when I was 5, I went to the park and I was playing with my friends, singing the "ring around the rosey" rhyme, while dancing in a circle, with my mom's car in the center. A week ago, my mom showed me a video of that day, none of the kids were there, it was just me dancing and singing. The kids who I called my friends who I was dancing with, were never even there. Strange world
There is this one rhyme that kids sang about Lizzie Borden. Lizzie Borden took an axe, and gave her mother 40 whacks; When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41. Yes kids actually sung this about her. It’s a sad story so if you are interested just look her up
So I watched a video about lizzie Borden and the borden house, and there's no real proof that lizzie actually committed the murder. They didn't think a women could commit such a violent act. Plus, there was absolutely no blood on her clothes, and her clothes were not easy to clean. But her uncle was staying with them, and he was a butcher. So my theory is, that Lizzie and her sister (Emma i think?) came up with the plan, along with their uncle John Morse, and John committed the act. Pretty cool tbh
My friend and I actually based a short horror story off of this a few years ago for a partner writing activity! She brought up the rhyme and I ended up doing some research on her. She has a pretty interesting story.
@@schoolboyblue4743 that theory's pretty good ngl. I just want to add that even though there was no blood on Lizzie's clothes, she could have changed them. Police back then didn't search her room or her drawers for evidence because they thought it improper to go through ladies' things. Also, a few days later she burned a dress and gave a weak explanation (I think she said it was dirty/stained). The case is honestly such a rabbit hole and nothing makes sense if you look at it for too long. I personally think Lizzie killed her father and step-mother, but we'll never actually know.
The actual origin of ring around the rosies is actually from the London bridge where during the building of it 13 people were sacrificed into the walls of the bridge and died there, most being children that sang that till each of them fell as they died
okay so i found a marry had a little lamb song on pinterest so let me share it with you.. : Mary had a little lamb, Its fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went The lamb was sure to go. She brought her lamb to school one day; The kids let out loud jeers. The children took her lamb away And Mary choked on tears. Mary had a little lamb, Its fleece was red with blood. She took its little body home And swore she'd hurt them good. Mary knew that lambsblood called Things ancient, hidden, and deep. As Mary painted signs of old, Never did she weep. Mary had a little lamb; It made her something scary. *Now I dare you, look in a mirror And whisper "bloody Mary"* and i just think its cool how they turned it into an origin story.
Me: *starts up the video and hears Isabella's Lullaby* WAIT A MINUTE- Hayley: "... from lullabies and-" Me: I- I completely forgot she watches TPN... Why am I so caught on this detail? Anyways something that the three blind mice one make me think about is this North American folklore called Tailypo (it's differently named depending on who you talk to) A friend told me the story when I was in kindergarten and I had some trouble remembering. But when I did, I went to Google and lo and behold it was a real story. (Go and look it up, it's pretty cool)
@Ace Clairvon Yeah, its still spooky to think about though 😅 And the first night after seeing that, my cat jumped up on my bed and freaked me out.... You can look up the video on RUclips, it's not too scary. I showed my boyfriend and he was fine with it. I think it's just the slight childhood trauma that haunts me about it.
You already explained this but I wanted to explain it in my own words :3 Ring around the rosy was the song that kids would sing to keep themselves occupied during the plague when they couldn't go and see their friends in fear of them having the sickness. I always thought that "ring around the rosie" was them singing and dancing around a rose bush, but that's just my imagination kicking in. "Pockets full of posy" is a reference to the herbs and flowers that they would keep in their pockets to ward off the disease. "Ashes ashes" the bodies of the infected were burnt to try to not spread the disease after the person had perished from it..there weren't many funerals for the people's loved ones, tragic really. "We all fall down" if you were in the city of the plague, everyone you knew was dying or already dead. Everyone had lost at least 3 people they knew or MORE. Uncles, aunts, mothers fathers, sisters and brothers. Even friends. Everyone was dying...I can't help but think of the poor children that had to witness that, and the poor parents who lost their children to it.lost I have told the story of ring around the rosy so many times, but unlike in the video I don't mention that it was the black plague, because there were many other plagues that the story could have originated from. Plus I never imagined it as the black plague, just some sickness in general. I really loved this video, sorry for such a huge comment 😂 Have a great day, to whomever is reading ❤💖💗
That's just how it is. Some people freak out, and some don't care. I mean, no matter how horrible, we're all gonna die anyway. Accepting it makes it less scary. And most people don't care so much about the deaths of the people they don't know, even if they say they do care.
Dud anyone notice that she has the theme song of the promise Neverland in the background (Thanks for all the likes and comment I really wasn't expecting lol)
I think this one would make a REALLY terrifying nursery rhyme monster: Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie, Kissed the girls and made them cry, When the boys came out to play, Georgie Porgie ran away.
You could celebrate what Yahweh has done, because there are a plethora of them. John 3:16-18 (WEB) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. Accept the word of God as truth and a lot of things about this world will come to light. It'll only be a good fight if you're on the winning side.
LavenderTowne's designs are always so well thought-out and creative. And I really love these ones in particular because she tried to make them properly horror-y and not just vaguely dark. And of course they are beautiful too. It's kind of interesting, but to me as someone not from an English-speaking country who's never heard any of those nursery rhymes, almost all of them have unsettling lyrics. Except only Mary Had a Little Lamb. And Humpty Dumpty if that really was meant to refer to a cannon. But there is nothing in the lyrics that specifies it. things i've noticed scare people, although they have no rational reason to: •nursery rhymes. they are usually really sweet and have no intentional hidden meaning, but people are scared •children singing or playing with dolls. i don't know why, but people are terrified of childish things. •childish things in general. clowns, songs, dolls and behaviour. it's absurd, really. •silence. silence scares people more then screams. •darkness. they're not scared of being alone in the dark, they're scared of _not_ being alone in the dark. and those are the things i've noticed. add anymore if you think they fit! edit: here is another one my friend told me about! •things that don't make sense. people aren't scared of a girl alone in a room because it makes sense. instead they're scared of a girl, fully clothed, sitting a bathtub and singing. it doesn't make sense so it scares them.
Human faces where they shouldn't be. Like on a wall or the floor or on a piece of furniture; it could be just me but I find the thought of that terrifying.
Teeth where they shouldn’t be! Not in a “they’re biting you” sense but in a “why are there teeth here” sense. To use a couple moments from The Magnus Archives as an example, finding teeth within an apple, or pouring in large numbers out of a trash bag.
Being stalked/watched when you think you're alone, I literally have to keep my curtains closed at night because I'm scared I'm going to look up and there will be someone there and it's terrifying. The breach of privacy is terrifying, I think it's also the reason behind the breach of privacy because stalkers generally stalk for sinister purposes.
Fun fact: Humpty Dumpty is based off a canon in the English civil war. That was mounted on a wall. Humpty Dumpty fell from battlement and was not able to be recovered.
When I heard "Ring Around The Rosie" I thought of the Japanese urban legend "Kagome, Kagome" for some reason It means "Circle you, Circle you" and to be honest it's pretty disturbing if you dig deep enough
I studied the 'ring around the rosie' song in school last year, so I'll explain the lyrics for anyone who wants to hear:
'Ring around the rosy'
This lyrics refers to the rash you get when you've caught the plague. A pink, rosy rash would appear on the inside of your thighs. This rash looked like a ring.
'A pocket full of posies'
Posies are flowers that have a very strong smell. Plague doctors with the bird masks would stuff the flowers in the beak of the mask and in their pockets because it was believed that the smell would ward off the plague.
'Ashes, ashes'
This one refers to plagued bodies being cremated. At the time they knew that burying the bodies would not stop the infection on the people from spreading so they would burn the bodies in a big pit. (Called a plague pit)
'We all fall down'
This one is basically saying the plague is inescapable and we're all going to be infected at some point.
That's all. Hope this was a good explanation 👍🏼
Wasn't it originally "A tissue, A tissue" (Like, A-tish-oo for sneezing) instead of "Ashes, Ashes" though?

When the bough breaks the cradle will fall.” Like..why do people sing that to their children when they want them to SLEEP?
true, that

Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day, which was against the rules.
It made the children laugh and play to see a lamb at school.
And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near,
And waited patiently about til Mary did appear.
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
the eager children cried.
"Well, Mary loves the lamb, you know!"
the teacher then replied.
One night Mary ran away, and left the lamb behind.
Nothing but a tattered cloth of Mary's could they find.
So people blamed the lamb you see, claimed Mary had gone mad.
No one came to the lambs aid except the butcher's lad.
They called him and the lamb a witch and burned them at the stake,
Two years ago they found a dead girl floating in the lake.
And still you hear the sobs and bleats, their faces red with jam.
Still, people of the town burn cloth for Mary and her lamb.

Fun fact:
London bridge is falling down is about sacrificing people so that London bridge would not fall down.
Welp never playing that again
@@Taylor-yt1tu me to You know I got trapped under the bridge while we were playing that

aaah, I knew the ashes sounded weird, cuz I remember making sneezing noises while singing when I was a kid
Honestly, as I’ve gotten older nursery rhymes have seemed quite unsettling. A while back I searched up the real meanings and was very terrified of what I found. One of the scariest ones I found was “ Rock-a-bye, baby “ if anyone is unfamiliar with this nursery rhyme here is how it goes,
“ rock a bye baby, on the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks the cradle will fall, and down will come baby, cradle and all. “ there is a longer version which is even more unsettling. It is thought this lullaby is about a death wish to a infant.
even when I was little, i thought it was creepy. why are kids singing about the wish to kill a literal baby?
That poor baby. Those poor parents. Something is probably horribly wrong if they want an infant to die.
There's a pretty good explaination for it: The rhyme narrates a mother gently rocking her baby to sleep in her arms, as if the baby were riding the treetops during a breeze; then, when the mother lowers the baby to her crib, the song says "down will come baby."
I think this theory makes the most sense and makes the song wayyyy less horrifying
Holy shit-
That Had A Dark Turn-
I was thinking something similar, good theory
Fear=unlocked
I made a preposition poem for an assignment once:
Up on the wall he sat with much joy.
Into bits his body had scattered
Into pieces his body had shattered.
To the scene the king’s men came quick.
To try and put him back together lickity split.
Through and through they tried and tried.
But Humpty had already died.
Fun fact: "Humpty Dumpty" was actually believed to be a cannon used in a war.
Yeah, I was about to comment that! :)
Fun?
There’s also a theory that the story is about a king who went crazy
That, would make a lot more sense
Fun fact: this is true

“Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb,

It followed her across the town
Across the town

OH that makes a lot of sense wtf

I believe it was refering to a child being stolen and falling from the family tree, I dont remember the full lore behind it, though.

The three blind mice in this story are supposedly the Oxford Martyrs, three Anglican bishops who refused to renounce their Protestant beliefs, and were executed by Mary for “blindly” following Protestant learnings rather than Catholic ones

OH MY GOD HOW DID I JUST NOTICE THAT THE BACKGROUND MUSIC IS THE MUSIC BOX VERSION OF ISABELLA’S LULLABY
Here are the supposed origins for each nursery rhyme:
*Ring Around A Rosie:*
1. Basically what she said in the video, but for the other version of it-
(There's a version which says 'Tissue, tissue we all fall down' instead)
It reffers to the sicknesses they got along with the Plague since their immune systems were so bad
2. It could also be about the story of a girl named Rosie who was sent to the forest alone by her parents cause she had the Plague
When she was walking around she had disturbed a man who tought she was a wild animal and set a ring of fire around her
She then burned to ashes with the Posies she had in an attempt to ward of the Plague
*Humpty Dumpty:*
1. There was a male poet who was favored by the king, so he was invited to the palace
During the English war, it was said that a canon ball shot the wall he was walking along so he fell and died with it
2. Basically the story above, but instead of the wall he was shot in the face with the canon ball, and broke his head and killed him of course
3. Another version from the story above, instead of the English war however, he had killed himself by jumping off of the wall
4. Humpty Dumpty was actually a canon that fell of the palace ledge in the English war, kinda boring
*Three Blind Mice:*
The three blind mice were actually triplets who were all blind, and back in the old days this was considered cursed
So you know what they did?
They burned and tortured them in public, killing the triplets.
*Mary Had A Little Lamb:*
There was once a girl named Mary who had a pet lamb, but it wasn't 'white as snow'.
It was actually a black diseased lamb that she brought to school everyday, and others bullied her for it.
One day she had enough and led a pack of Wolves to the school with Lamb's blood, and they killed all the children and teachers
Though it wasn't specified whether she was also killed by the wolves, set for execution, or if she killed her pet lamb for the blood

So, I looked up the nursery rhyme. NO, the lamb doesn't get turned *inside out* or whatever. When the rhyme says, "The teacher turned it out" it means the teacher sent it out of the school house but it still lingered nearby, waiting for Mary to come out.
Maybe the lamb was a demon/monster that was feeding off of Mary

I know people that are her descendants and I think it’s really cool when people who probably live across the country from me know a something from a tiny town. Mary’s house still stands and it is really the coolest thing in town. (Other than the lamb statue in the center of town that is dressed up for holidays and seasons)

There he stood, broken and tall.

We’re torn and shattered. Never to be seen again.”
Oi thats dark
I will like all the darker poems in the comments

Drawing idea: Rhymes about historical people in modern times. For example, “Lizzie Borden took an axe...” (Lizzie Borden, obviously), or “Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived” (the six wives of King Henry VIII). Basically rhymes about real people in the past as modern characters, so long as it’s not too insensitive, of course, considering Lizzie Borden’s rhyme or other rhymes I can’t think of about murderers.

I just realized- it’s not Mary has a little lamb, it’s HAD a little lamb, makes you think that she killed the lamb or something
Oh sh-
and I think “her fleece was white as snow” is referring to the fact someone probably used the lamb’s fleece after killing it for food maybe?
the rhyme was always slightly unsettling to me because I couldn't get over that fact,
I was like: "what happened to the lamb? Did it die? is this song mary and her family mourning the lamb? did she kill the lamb? did it run away?"
there are so many directions that the story can go when you just think of the HAD, you know?
...wait...it followed her to school one day, school one day, it followed her to school one day which was against the rules...
So...maybe bullying? Or was it taken away from her and killed? Or...
I’m just scaring myself now
Woah dude-
There is actually this french lullaby, which is about a farmer who had a little sparrow.

I'm pretty sure the origin of humpty dumpty is a cannon that fell of a wall I'm not entirely sure, I read it somewhere
Still a creepy story idea
I also realized this a while ago and was extremely concerned
I remember someone saying horror writers tend to use traditionally comforting things for their work bc of irony sake. Usually you would feel comforted and soothed by a lullaby, so using it to scare you adds to the shock factor

I was a very creepy kid as a 4-7 year old
According to my parents, I consumed my twin in the womb, and they said the way I acted as a 4-7 year old was like the twin I absorbed was haunting me, trying to get revenge for taking away her chance at living.
What’s the point of that nursery rhyme tho? Like why did kids sing it or whatever

Mary had a little lamb, Its fleece was white as snow.

You already explained this but I wanted to explain it in my own words :3
Ring around the rosy was the song that kids would sing to keep themselves occupied during the plague when they couldn't go and see their friends in fear of them having the sickness. Everyone was dying...I can't help but think of the poor children that had to witness that, and the poor parents who lost their children to it.lost
I have told the story of ring around the rosy so many times, but unlike in the video I don't mention that it was the black plague, because there were many other plagues that the story could have originated from. Plus I never imagined it as the black plague, just some sickness in general.
I really loved this video, sorry for such a huge comment 😂
Have a great day, to whomever is reading ❤💖💗
Why is this so calming when she is talking about DEATH
Edit : why did this get so many likes
That's just how it is. Some people freak out, and some don't care. I mean, no matter how horrible, we're all gonna die anyway. Accepting it makes it less scary. And most people don't care so much about the deaths of the people they don't know, even if they say they do care.

things i've noticed scare people, although they have no rational reason to:
•nursery rhymes. they are usually really sweet and have no intentional hidden meaning, but people are scared
•children singing or playing with dolls. i don't know why, but people are terrified of childish things.
Basmala Alkhalaf I’d shit my pants if my child was up at 3am singing nursery rhythms
I’d love to hear other opinions on what else people are generally scared of. Cool comment
