This literally had me tearing up near the end. I got into Splatoon, 3 years after it was released, but I still played it. Even getting to Level 30 after some grinding. Splatoon will always be my favorite Wii U game, and that's not gonna change anytime soon.
I'm playing a few more games on the WiiU before the servers shut down, and I'm going to be dressed as the OG Agent 3 for the rest of April when playing Splatoon 3 to honor the memories I made along the way. Might even bust out the Krak-On roller as it was my first ever main weapon.
It's very sad and terrifying that Nintendo is shutting down the Wii-U and 3DS online servers for no good reason! I had fond memories with Splatoon (and the other Wii-U titles) back in summer of 2015! I remember the day after 6th grade of school is over, and my grandfather and I went to Walmart to get Splatoon for my Wii-U, and it was a goddamm blast! Sadly though, around October 2018, I sold my Wii-U for Xbox One X. But other than that, Splatoon holds a special place in my heart, and you won't be forgotten.
They're shutting it down for a good reason, the servers must cost lots of money for them, and since those servers are of old consoles they no longer sell, they're pulling the plug. It sucks that Nintendo is shutting them down, but it had to come eventually. At least it lasted longer than Nintendo WFC.

They intentionally don't do that so there's no sound advantage between players- ie. Being able to hear enemy team more or less based on the song playing. Everyone in a match has the same one so it's fair.
Man, I haven't played any Splatoon game in years. That being said, the memories of this game make the lag and glitches worth it. The splatfests, the memes like Splat Tim, 'i wish squids were real', etc. This game is one of, If not the best game for the Wii U. You made 9-10 year old me very happy. RIP 2015-2024
I remember playing SSB and Mario Kart on my old 3ds. Im still sad that I lost it a long while ago. Unfortunately, I only ever played like 1 level of the original Splatoon story mode on my neighbor's WiiU. Never actually played the original game in its prime. Still very sad to hear its being shut down.
I got splatoon 1 in 2021 I think I am so grateful that I got to experience the game before it was down for months and it was so sad when I saw that the Wii U and 3ds online server r shut down in April 8 i. Was kinda disappointed I didn’t know about splatoon until 2018 and I got splatoon 2 in 2018 and play like every splatfest and I got splatoon 1 so I can finally get to play the online multiplayer because I had a Wii U but I never knew about splatoon until 2018

I remember seeing the trailer on TV back in 2015 and thinking this was the greatest game I've ever seen with the fun color's and Splat attack song blasting in the background. And I'll never forget when I got home from Elementary school my mom and dad surprised me with the game i lost my mind! 😂
Where one adventure ends, a new one begins... farewell Splatoon 1, and let's keep marching onwards, making new memories in Splatoon 3, and soon, Splatoon 4. I started on Splatoon 3, so I'm pretty late to this all. (Though i did watch my bro play Splat 2 during its entire run time). It's my favorite game on the switch and it's eaten up countless hours of my life (metaphorically). The future is bright for all of Squidkind.
Calamari Inkantation sounded so barebones Bach then, there’s nothing wrong with it but Spicy Calamari Inkantation (Splatoon 2) and Calamari Inkantation 3mix (Splatoon 3) were so good and full of what makes Splatoon so good. At least I can homebrew my WiiU so that I don’t have to say good bye. Goodbye Splatoon 1’s official servers and thank you for the memories.🫡
It will definitely be sad to see the Online for Splatoon 1 go. I unfortunately missed out on all the Splatfests in Splatoon 1 so it's really sad that the older Splatfests in Splatoon 1 aren't going to be coming back in Splatoon 1 especially since they brought back some of the Splatoon 2 Splatfests back in Splatoon 2

And this means unseen kit weapons that are from the splatoon, more unseen stages, and everything from Splatoon 1 will be lost media once the wii-u/ Nintendo 3D shuts down.
Nintendo had so many franchises that it seemed like we were never going to get any new franchises. Then Splatoon came out and took the world by storm. 4.95 million for the Wii U is an incredible success. Then Splatoon 2 came out and more than doubled that number, the DLC also sold super well. And Splatoon 3 sold almost as much as Splatoon 2. This is not the end but the beginning

Nintendo has indirectly forced me to hack my wiiu because I can’t let go of this game yet, the crazy weapons, the actually good stages, the music, the memories. Too much nostalgia. The original splatoon is my favorite game of all time, and obviously I love 2 and 3, but idk what it is, it’s just too fun and too good to let go. If anyone else is interested in continuing playing after the official servers go down, you’ll need to homebrew your wiiu (there’s video tutorials) and use Pretendo’s servers.
unfortunately that only applies to some of us. so many people with Wii Us don't know about that service at all :( at least people can schedule games together through websites and chat rooms, but now there's zero possibility of open multiplayer pick up and play games.

I never played this game on the Wii U, but my sister did, and she hasn't played in a couple of years since at one point my Wii U wouldn't turn on, so maybe i should remind her to play this again for the last time.
You could always play on pretendo network. I think they are trying to get servers running for all Wii U and 3Ds games soon, and splatoon is one of the games that already has a server. I was told they run very well.
So sad, Splatoon 1 is the best of the franchise. The general mood of the newer games is getting darker. Splatoon 1 is like little kids throwing paint at each other, 2 and 3 is like adults. I like the squid kids better than the squid adults.

When you turn on Splatoon 1 when the servers shut down, you can only do octo valley and battle dojo.
