A sleeve ironing board? All these years I've struggled and wondered. It exists! My uniforms and dress shirts will finally be sharp! Thanks for this list. Top notch. Also Feather blades are indeed amazing!
Of all things I was expecting to see in this video, was not the Criterion Channel! I love it and I recommend it to everyone who likes modern and classic films from all over the world. Good one Raphael!
But...l *canceled* TCC *years* ago! I was in the process of collecting ALL of the whole entire archive, years of hunting and picking stores, swap meets, pawn shops, online (no ordering from the actual Criterion house, that was cheating!) and I was making really great progress on my titles. Then one day my boyfriend called. He told me he had something bad to tell me, something that he knew that I was going to take very hard. It was about the Criterion Collection: they'd added......."ARMAGEDDON". "NOOOOO!!! YOU ARE THE FATHER OF ALL LIES!!!" I hung up on him, confirmed it, then dissloved into blubbering tears for the rest of the weekend. I was gutted. I felt sick. I STILL feel sick, but I want to be *over* it, already! I guess I can let *one* abscess of a Blockbuster on an otherwise unblemished landscape go. It SHOULD be overlooked. I want in on their CHANNEL, it sounds fantastic and I think I need it in my life!
as a chef I thoroughly appreciate how the gent interests himself in the gastronomic arts. any man should be able to confidently prepare a (at least small) variety of meals/foods. thanks for the content sir!
Hi Raphael, the Martini Rosso is a must have for my lady and me. We use it to make a Negroni cocktail, ideal as a pre-dinner drink. As for Peter Pauper journals, I've been using them for years and absolutely love them. My good lady and I keep a memory journal of our time and life together and we use volumes of the Peter Pauper journals for that.
The Kaweco Sport Classic is a cheap but good beginners fountain pen. It can be optically upgraded with the also cheap clip. Tissot sells his swiss made watches for a pretty good price. Another option for an inexpensive good watch is Orient bambino. Jameson Whiskey is one of the best everyday whiykeys for a very good price!
Feather blades are definitely great blades. I shave with Astra most of the time, but keep a pack or two of Feather around for when I only have time for a single pass. Martini and Rossi have some great products. The Brut is affordable enough to break out at casual dinners at home and is one of the few things my wife will drink.
I recently bought myself some feather blades but they are way too sharp for me and I butchered my face, my favorites are green Astra blades. I believe everyone should try different blades, just to figure out what works best through the trial and error.
With the lotion: I was having issues even with various name brand lotions. I went to the doc and they told me to just use regular Vaseline. Make sure to get the name brand stuff. It’s super cheap. I bought a big tub of it I still haven’t gone all the way through after almost half a year. I apply it periodically in the day on my hands and after a shower on my face and hands
I think it's wonderful that you have a daughter who is a toddler, and aren't afraid of your clothes staining because of The Laundress products. That's a great dad!!
i love also my combo: feather blades and an edwin jagger rasor. The rasor is more on the mild side and perfect with an extra sharp blade..(for me) Not to mention the fun with the big world of shaving soaps and creams... The salt, stain remover and the journal i'll give a try... thanks
I've been using the feather blades with my safety razor for just over a year now and love them. It was the Gentleman's Gazette just over a year ago that inspired me to make the switch!
@@gentlemansgazette I'm just wondering about cooking with vermouth now🔥 I'm wondering how well it work for red-wine-chicken recipe that I've used before🍀
I'm glad to see Martini & Rossi vermouth recommended. It needs no apology. Carpano Antica, while a very fine vermouth, has a vastly different flavor profile from most other red vermouths. In particular, it has a strong vanilla note. It does not necessarily work well when mixing a cocktail like a Manhattan or a Negroni. Of course, to each their own taste, whether mixing it or drinking it on its own. I'm happy to have less expensive vermouths for excellent mixing, and once in a while I'll buy a small bottle of Carpano as a treat.
Thank you for the knowledge. Big fan! Another quality journal I would recommend would be the ones from Code & Quill. Unfortunately, they are always sold out. Cheers!
I’ve been using CeraVe soap and moisturizer for about two years. Big difference in skin elasticity and moisture. Won’t make you look like a 20 year old but you won’t look like a prune either.
I've never had a bottle of red Vermouth last longer than a month. So...no freshness problem. My first bottle of white Vermouth was acquired ~15y ago, and is still going strong. Did I mention...? It's a 50 ml bottle :-}
CeraVe is the best moisturizer made, and it’s at the drugstore. Hylauronic acid has a nice cosmetic effect along with moisture retention, it plumps up fine lines for 12 hours. Every little bit helps. This is a good list. Man knows his stuff.
Great photo of your little kiddo! When my three adult children were that age it was the best time of my life, enjoy it while you can. Excellent content as always. That guy shaving looks like the brother of the crooner kid. Peace
Excellent video. I always appreciate your viewpoints and recommendations. I started using a Gillette double-edged razor based on your recommendation and I do not regret it. Thanks a million and keep these kinds of videos coming. Ciao
I must admit, sometimes I listen just because I like Raphel's accent. It's compelling and unlike anyone I have ever met before. It makes me want to hear what he has to say next.
Nice list. Thanks for the information about Peter Pauper. I see they make many kinds of paper goods in various sizes, but your metric / US conversions have me scratching my head.
Great video, as always. Bought my first safety razor about ten years ago and would never go back to cartridges. Didn’t realise Maldon Salt had such an international following, I only live a few miles away!
Excellent video. A cheap but good product that I use is Vitalis Hair Tonic. Leaves my hair neat and manageable but never stiff or greasy. I found it completely eliminated any dandruff for me which I previously had to deal with. Highly recommended.
Great video! You now have a new subscriber from the UK. One product I love is Arko shave soap. Very inexpensive, gives a great lather & lasts a long time.
Jinhao 159 fountain pen in place of a Montblanc 149. It is ridiculously cheap but the medium nib is usually quite good, and if not can be swapped with an better German made nib. Most places you can find for less then $10.
good advice on Vermouth. Antica Formula is amazing - I also like their entry level brand Punt e Mes which is half the price. I would also recommend Spanish Sherry based Vermut from the likes of Lustau - these can be stunningly good and are underpriced
My favorite vermouth is Noilly-Prat... the red one especially is often impossible to find here in Quebec, so when I find some I buy a few cases. And because not a lot of people enjoy its herbal flavor, I have more for me!
I usually use voshkods, the cheapest I've found them was for .06€. I haven't used feathers yet as I think that the price is a bit high. While Merkur Blades are great, always IMO, I also think that they're expensive. In our local shop they are 10 times more expensive than the voshkods. As a Benchmark, I've bought 100 Astra's for 8€, 100 Voshkods for 6€ and 10 Wilkinsons for 2.55€. The best results I've had with the cheaper blades. Both with a shavette and a Merkur Futur. But my skin and hair is probably different to yours and the feathers might be better for for you.
@@NJLev I've used them. The are really nice blades, although Astra is better value for money. But even then the price differences are not so big and compared to conventional razors still really cheap.
It's funny that you made that observation, I just bought 5 pairs(Corduroy) which I been wearing all fall into winter. I found them in a stretch waist band which accommodates my ever change weight gains and loss; very comfortable fabric with a rustic look, great with my tweeds...my fashion style is the retired look....comfort is my top priority.
Man, Vermouth is quite expensive on your side of the Atlantic Ocean; here in Belgium that same bottle would be about $9 (converted) at a regular store. or a 1.5l bottle (double) for about what you paid for 750ml
Raphael, I didn’t now you had a toddler. I have an 18 month old girl and for a long time I didn’t know why I was getting sticky or oily stains on my trousers. Of course it was my little girl grabbing hold of me in the mornings before I went to work. So now I wear chinos until I am about to leave.
You forgot Tuesdays at Popeyes, Totts sparking wine, the one with the plastic stopper, the polyester ties and simulated, tapioca flour cheese both at Dollar Tree and the the little booties, the lil tubes of toothpaste and the clear plastic discharge day bags with the handles ( better than Prada! ) that are all handed out at Emergency.
I know cocktail connoisseurs don’t like Martini vermouth, but it’s my go to. My favourite drink is the Negroni and I find the more expensive vermouths too sweet and syrupy. I find the Martini results in a more balanced drink (to my palate anyway).
fyi there are vintage manual razor blade sharpeners (a little mechanical gadget) you can use to sharpen your double edged blades. no need to throw them out!
I prefer Carpano Classico for Manhattans. Still pretty cheap but very good (better than Antigua Formula IMHO) especially with Bulleit Rye (which is also a decently priced but excellent product).
Very good ideas for gifts as well. I have a question what is the best travel bag hanger I could buy? Something that I can travel; keep my bag off the floor when I eat at a table while traveling. Not dainty like a woman's purse holder.
Feather makes a very sharp blade. They seem a little too aggressive to me. My current favorite of over a year now, is Voskhod (and $12/100 blades). A wonderful blade when loaded into my Merkur 510 or Yaqi flipside. I've tried +25 different blades, but usually return to the Voskhod.
I love Nesti Dante soaps, made in Florence. Many years ago I stopped using shower gel and using their soaps instead. I will never go back. Most of the shower gels are just a waste of money.

I personally prefer Astra and Derby over Feather as it makes me bleed like it is the first time I am shaving with DE razor
Yes, knowing what works for you and your skin is key. Basically, all DE blades are better than cartrdige systems.
Double razors are the best in my opinion. I also have used that cream and its very good.
