    When this video was uploaded, any mini pc with the celeron x3350 would have been a way better choice: it's about 2x faster than the celeron x3060.
    /edit: I own a Beelink T4 Pro (Celeron n3350, 4GB DDR3 ram, 64GB eMMC) and performs much better than the BMAX B1, especially when running Lubuntu 20.04 instead of W10 🙂

    The BMAX B1 Mini PC did not detect Transcend 256GB NVMe M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3x4 SSD:-
    The product specification of the PC mentions "Solid State Disk: Support 1* M.2 2280 SSD." And the Package List mentions 1 x SATA cable. However, the receipt package of the order specifically did not contain a SATA cable rather it contained a HDMI Cable in place of said SATA cable.
    Since, M.2 was designed to support SATA and also PCIe, so this raised a question in my mind in selecting an appropriate interface between SATA and PCIe.
    However, there is a M Key socket in the system board of the PC for the M.2 2280 SSD, so possibility of SATA interface is eliminated (at least in my case) considering almost all M.2 2280 SSDs with SATA interface mostly have B+M Key edges but I do not find such an SSD with SATA interface have M Key edge. Besides, all M Key edged M.2 2280 SSD's have PCIe interface, so there's only one possibility for a M key socket i.e. PCIe interface.
    Accordingly, I have purchased one Transcend 256GB NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 80mm M.2 SSD. But after insertion in the The BMAX B1 Mini PC socket, it does not detect Transcend 256GB NVMe M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3x4 SSD. I did not change the default BIOS setup of the PC and uncertain whether the BIOS at all needs any setup modification modification.
    So what may be the reason that the BMAX B1 Mini PC did not detect Transcend 256GB NVMe M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3x4 SSD in my case?

    This pc would be so much better with a slightly different CPU.
    I have like old, old budget lenovo laptop, that I bought 5 years ago, for like $250. It has i3 4030u, and I've been searching for upgrade last two years, and I just can't find a budget laptop/tiny pc that would have a better processor. What the hell.

      The intelligent fan inside the PC starts, slows or stops as per the actual requirement of the CPU, so one may put the PC into service 24x7 days as well.
      Make sure pressure on the CPU as less as possible,, this will keep the CPU reasonably cool. I.e. don't perform multi tasking while the PC is downloading video streams or video clips from the camera or playing these video stream/clips downloaded from the camera.
      One needs to install App/Program in the PC to play video streams directly from the camera, or else, such video clips are first stored in the SD card of the Camera then replicated/copied to the PC drive through wireless or wiired NAS, then only one can play the video using PC's default Video Player/s.
      The PC consumes about 4 - 8 Watts so the power usage is not so high.

    It is better to buy something based on Intel-i3 processor. All cut-off processors like Celeron, Atom are garbage. Take a look this one. XCY X30 Mini PC it is not more expensive then this one.

    Basically a grownup Raspberry Pi - too bad they went for such a low power CPU even if they went with an N4200 it would not increase the price a lot. The 3060 is one of the slower Chromebook processors. What do I rock as a Windows computer? Anything, I repair computers and so it differs, I have a gorgeous Dell Inspiron with a touch screen, but that will be sold one of these days. What you could use it for is to stick on the back of a monitor to get a very clean desk. I would try an SSD in it and see how it makes a difference, that disk speed is as slow as a spinner. Thanks for the review though, I like this no-nonsense approach like a real Canuck (like me - lol)

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 года назад +1

      Al van der Laan haha. Thanks. I’m definitely gonna try and put a small ssd in it. I’d also like to crack it open and see what can be changed / upgraded. Would be great if it could even take 4 more gigs of ram. We shall see. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

    • @thakursn
      @thakursn 4 года назад

      The PC requires a M.2 2280 SSD (i.e. in the size 22mm width and 80mm length) with SATA or PCIe interface (variety depending upon the lot of manufacturing, storage capacity of the SSD may either be 128GB, 256GB up to 1TB.
      So naturally the storage capacity would be much more than 4GB (you said) after one SSD is inserted in the PC. The PC also have Micro SD card slot, that can increase upto 128GB storage capacity too , in addition to the storage increment due to SSD.
