- The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.
My god this commentary booth deserves to be in the hall of fame on calls and analysis alone. Nevermind the in race accolades for DW LarryMac and Jeff Hammond.
The race that saved Darlington.
Sure miss having Steve Byrnes around
Why are old races so soothing?
Because the broadcast quality is better, the racing is better. Overall there's just nothing to improve on.
@@Alex_Mac_well then it’s a good thing we had Brian France to make it better. (Sarcasm)
Because you already know the outcome. What's done is done. Now you can enjoy it for what it is.
This is one race finish that will never ever get old
One of the best!
"Have you ever...no I've never!!!"
By legend commentary is Mike Joy and Darrell Waltrip
I am so happy that I saw the greatest finish in the history of NASCAR
This was Pontiacs last win in NASCAR as they would leave the sport at end of that year and 7 years later cease to exist.
So true Brendan
I still own 2 of them
@@south_carolina_man Very cool!
Well, last win in Cup. The last overall win was at Kansas in the Xfinity Series by David Green.
3:13:07 the moment you came for
I miss this old Darlington
Fast Forward 21 Years and The Record for The Closest Finish in NASCAR History has been broken at Kansas at the hands of Kyle Larson & Chris Buescher
HAVE YOU EVER?
NO I’VE NEVER!
NO I'VE NEVER
Wow, what a finish
Ah HA HA HA!
THEY TOUCH, THEY TOUCH!!!
Craven got him
@@JGR4LIFEAlright... What a finish!
That's the goodest race I've ever seen at Darlington what a finish.
@@glonniecanoy3441HAVE YOU EVER🗣🗣🗣
@@Noskywyd NO, I'VE NEVER!
Amazing how Cal Wells team plummeted so quickly after this. They were 5th in the points after several good runs. Fell to 27th by season’s end and the team couldn’t even crack the top 30 of points in 2004 before disbanding
What impresses me is that I thought that everything was better quality back then, but I realized that it's about the same now. Man, nostalgia is a heck of a drug.
What a brilliant footage of NASCAR Classic of 2003 NASCAR Cups Series at Darlington from when FOX NASCAR begin the commercial, there's NASCAR In Car onboard camera.
And it took 21 years for there to be a finish closer than this one in the Cup Series.
"Have you ever?"
"NO I'VE NEVER"
Freaking timeless
At 21:00 minutes, what was Mike Joy taking about President Bush addressing the nation?
Announcement of his ultimatum to Hussein before formal deployment in Iraq.
I was born a year after this race happened 😂 but this race is a legendary race 😮
This makes me feel ancient
Same here
Got more useful information during the pace laps than you get all race in a modern FOX broadcast. I miss these days.
3:13:18 That photo finish gives me chills
Rightfully so, the finish of this race gets an incredible amount of attention. But this whole race is very good.
I love how the microphones pick up the sound of the Kurt Busch's squealing tires during the slide and the bang from his car nailing the wall 3:12:15
0:32-Starting Lineup
We will be there they are calling for 50 percent chance of rain. No,No, No rain ☔🌧️
Can we have a moment of silence for Pontiac. You will be missed.
If Mark Martin's crew doesn't miss a lugnut on the last stop, he wins easily and the best finish in NASCAR history doesn't happen
2:27:29 Of goddamn course the M&M racer likes M&M..
I miss the old NASCAR. It died in 2004 or 2005.
No.
It didn't.
Is it me or they don’t go this fast anymore?
NASCAR neutered the horsepower down to 670hp (2022) from 725hp (2003)
They have less HP now than they did back then. The cars weren't stuck to the ground and made of carbon fiber. the bodies were sheet metal and easily damaged you had to take care of your car back then which is why you see guys pull over and let others by
@@hutrod7721 would definitely rather have it the way it was back then rather than now. That’s just my opinion. I feel now a days if you don’t have a busted tow link you’re still able to run
@@rickyromero1097 yeah I'm with you, I started watching in 2001 and I miss these cars, engines and drivers.
They look faster because the cars were harder to drive and moved around a lot more. They're like slot cars nowadays.
Sterling's interviews give off big Ricky Bobby vibes
I disnt see this race but saw the higlights on speed channel as a kid was a junior fan cause red was my favorite car also its amazing to realize that tommy Baldwin had two different teams (robby gordon took over the 7 in the mid 2000s)
Definitely the greatest race from start to finish, Nascar should study this race and apply it today... tire wear, +time urgency (rain looming) so maybe shorter races, and drivers that could actually drive a wild race car without wrecking each other... also, the camera angle of the cars coming out of turn 2 was unbelievable.
👍🏁👍
So why was Brett bodine not in his own car?? DW cut Mike off before he could finish..
Coincidentally, this is happened ten years after 1993 Arima Kinen
3:11:57
If an add ever cuts off DW’s boogity boogity boogity again I will burn RUclips to the ground.
Roush’s engines were such garbage. Always underpowered compared to Yates and Penske and good at blowing up.
