    OK... That is my next step. Replaced the sending unit but same result as before I did, now I will try the 15-40 and a new Mobil 1 filter. Thanks!

    Yep, someone told me always start with the cheapest solution first.. Been a shame to rebuild the engine and not change the oil filter.. Hope all is well Dave.. Take care and God Bless...

    I have heard that Jeep has a problem with low oil pressure at idle with the 3.7L.
    I just bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7L and the oil light comes on at idle.
    The first thing I did was change the oil and filter. I used 10W30 semi-synthetic which is recommended by the manufacturer, but the light still comes on.
    I saw another mechanic who works for Chrysler, and he says the switches are a problem as well, and you need to vent the connector housing to prevent pressure buildup from throwing the pressure setting off.
    The weatherpac connectors can be vented by putting a piece of spray tube through one of the unused wire holes, so air can pass through, and keep the pressure from building up. I have yet to try it, as it has not been nice to crawl under the Jeep yet.

    Good catch on that, most of the time it’s something really simple it’s just crazy how that works

      @@Volfandt Dave I don't know if you follow Stephen (Idaho Fabricator) but I started watching him about a year ago and not long ago he came out with a video that said he was struggling with cancer (throat, I believe) and I haven't heard much from him lately.. I put him on my prayer list.. He is a very good Fabricator.. He reminds me of a shop teacher.. Check out his stuff if u haven't seen him before.. You didn't mention which engine it is but both the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 are well-known sludgers and losing oil pressure one of the first symptoms of the end. Eventually no pressure at idle turns into no pressure. Let's hope he gets a good while longer out of it though.

    • @Volfandt
      @Volfandt  2 года назад +1

      Hey Tyler, it's the 4.0 I6. The brand new 15w40 oil we put in it was coal black within 2 weeks. But so far it's still running good. We'll see.

      @@Volfandt I wonder what kind of O.P. he has at speed.. Think it might be an oil pump.. I've even heard crazy stuff like stretching the spring in the pump.. keep us posted on this problem..

      @@garyjones2582 Each time I glanced at the dash oil press gauge it was reading about at the halfway mark at high RPM which he said was normal. I didn't look close enough to read the numbers. On the flip side when I was reading it with my test gauge it would get up too 30 psi and that was on the bad oil filter. Based on how fast the oil gets tar black I'd say you may be right on the oil pump. at this point we're both happy t let sleeping dogs lie, LOL. Based on the way the rear main leaks a pan drop may be in it's future..

    Might be a dumb question but I have to ask, because I'm looking at a 2007 Jeep with the low oil pressure light in. If it's the sending unit, that doesn't interfere with the oil flow does it? It just isn't picking up the oil pressure reading then? Thanks

    • @Volfandt
      @Volfandt  Год назад +1

      To my knowledge it doesn't interfere or block oil flow. Like most it's probably just tapped into an oil gallery/channel. An oil pressure gauge will verify if theres any oil pressure. As an aside my brothers Jeep is still going strong with regular changing of the 15w40 oil and a new filter.
      Good luck

      If you haven't changed out the oil filter try that and hook up a oil pressure tester gauge to make sure the sender isn't bad. Good luck..
