      Matthew Waldman . Hello Sir. For me kids when they were in 4th grade and under I just used a large side plate fit perfectly. As for the carrier I just bought a size small, turned it inside out and sowed the side in to fit the plate. then turn in back right side out and fit perfect. yeah I sow and I taught my kids how to sence they were real young and the use that knowledge too. Hope this helps you out buddie.

    Great vid thank you and your point about the bar-tack is spot on, bar-tacking is almost always an extra process in the production of a piece of clothing or equipment. That increases the cost of production and will often be not present on inferior clothing/equipment. Again good good stuff thank you.

    If you do buy ceramic armor, only buy new from a reputable manufacture. Not the ebay crap. It will be cracked and useless; even if you cant see it. But honestly just stick to steel. It may be heavier but you can drop kick it down a flight of stairs and it wont be damaged.

    I stand 5'4" tall and my body proportions are such that my torso is somewhat short for my size. I weigh in at 140 pounds and wear athletic cut suits with a chest measurement of 40", so my chest is probably about average I've tried several tactical vests and plate carriers and have had no luck finding one that fits as of yet. I don't see anywhere where I can select a size on the AR-500 site. Do you have any recommendations?

    • @TacticalResponseCrew

      If a t-shirt fits you then body armor will fit you.

    • @thriftysurvivor6117
      @thriftysurvivor6117 4 года назад

      @@TacticalResponseCrew T-shirts fit me, but any tactical vests or plate carriers I've tried don't fit me. When I tighten all the straps to the max on my tactical vests, the included belts still hangs around my thy's . Furthermore, even if I tighten the belts all the way when holding them up to my waist line, they still drop back down to my thy level as soon as I let go. That's because the shoulder straps don't tighten enough to keep the belt above the hip level, and the belts themselves won't go down to a 28" waist. I understand plate carriers typically don't utilize a belt, and I understand I can employ my Cobra belt by running it through the belt loops on my tactical vests; this however doesn't solve the problem of this causing the vest to flop around since now the shoulder straps have a large gap above my shoulders. I know some plate carriers have adjustment straps on the sides in order to "customize" the fit. What I've found is with a 12" drop, I can't get the straps snug around the lower part of my torso. Thank goodness I no longer have a 16" drop. I used to have a 44" chest with my 28" waist. Since I changed sports to something that doesn't develop as much upper body mass, I am in a slightly better position than I used to be, but it appears to me that the companies that produce these chest rigs, plate carriers and tactical vests cater more to the larger framed and non vertically challenged people. Guess the rest of us are just out of luck.
      The best way I can describe my dimensions is when I keep my head level, and measure from the bottom of my chest to my belly button the distance is 14". My chest circumference measures 40". My overall height is 5"4" and my waist measures 28". I'm only providing these dimensions to aid in describing what a chest rig, or plate carrier would have to accommodate. I've even looked into some made for youth, but none of them go up to my chest size. I know my build used to be somewhat extreme in my days of body building, but now that I concentrate more on cardeo exercises, my build is no longer unreasonable for a reasonably fit individual. Let me ask the question this way. Do you know of anyone who produces a rig, carrier, or vest that will actually fit the dimensions I posted above? If so, I'd be much obliged.

    There's a lot of bad info in this video. Your carrier should be sized to your plate and has nothing to do with your T shirt size. The plate protects your organs, and those are going to be in the relative same size and place regardless of your size. There are guides available online for measuring yourself to see what size plate to get.
    Ceramic won't crack just because you drop it. Every modern military force issues ceramic plates for armor. It's the best balance of weight, cost and protection. The current NIJ standard for level IV protection includes even more drop tests and weathering tests so you can be sure that any NIJ rated plate is durable.
    Steel armor is the worst option, especially AR500 Armor. Nothing AR500 Armor makes is NIJ certified, which means there exists no objective or scientific basis for AR500 Armor's claims about their armor's capabilities.
    AR500 Armor have been caught on camera misleading about their products (their militia helmet video, if it can be found, shows a .45 ACP ricochet off the helmet into the ceiling, and their video comparing the fragmentation risk of their armor vs ceramic armor leaves out the key fact that the debris flying off the ceramic plate is not moving at velocities that will exit a nylon plate carrier).
    Steel armor also carries the well known risk of fragmentation. A bullet will shatter on impact with the plate and send those fragments flying at lethal speeds into your neck, face or groin and thighs. You can attempt to mitigate this with their build up truck bed liner coating but the problem persists. The lack of scientific standard behind their products means there is no basis for the number of rounds the plate can stop before the lining separates from the plate. It also doesn't mitigate the ricochet risk, so being shot at a slight angle can bounce that bullet back into your body or a close teammate.
    Right now you can buy a set of RMA level IV plates that offer better protection and actual NIJ certification for less than $300.

  • @TJ4774

    I haven't tested this but I feel like soft armor on the outside face of steel would probably help with spalling in addition to these new coatings. I don't know if I completely trust something that reminds me of truck bed liner to stop jacket and lead fragments flying upwards into my throat. I never thought about it but I might add that to my carrier.
    Couldn't hurt right?

    • @TacticalResponseCrew

      I thing it is funny that people think it will ricochet into their neck.

    • @TJ4774
      @TJ4774 5 лет назад

      Not exactly a ricochet but shrapnel. My steel stand collapsed after about an hour because the shrapnel chewed through the two 2x4s that made up the base about 4ft under the target.

    • @o1mtbiker
      @o1mtbiker 5 лет назад +1

      TJ4774 it is a type of bed liner, but you would have to take a lot of rounds before the material stop absorbing.
      But still the chances are minimal. Plates are affordable enough these days test it. Or you can search RUclips and see how tough this material really is.

    I hunted and hunted for a decent plate carrier. I'm a bigger guy, played offensive line in college and used to compete in strongman competitions. I ended up getting the testudo gen 2 with the 11x14 plates because it was on a black friday deal. It is ultimately too small for me. I've got about a 58 inch chest and broad shoulders. It just didn't fit me right. I have ended up feeling pretty good about the eagle industries ciras xl, and bought a second set of plates so that my wife can have the testudo for shtf.
    If any other big dudes end up seeing this, hope it helps.
