That is why I wear a T-shirt that explicitly state "No Bullet Pass Through Zone." Cotton never spalls... LOL...
“Your cotton t-shirt will never let you down.” I have a new favorite Yeager-ism. 😂
God bless you James. You left us with a wealth of information. May you rest in peace sir 🙏.
"Armor, Like insurance, You hope you never have to use it...." James - that is spot on.
I hav concealable and heavy armor. If all you had was an expired date vest . . . Yeah, you'd still be better off with it than with out it. That said, get some armor and maintain it.
As the great Clint Smith said: "The thing about armor is: you have to fight competent people for it to work"
One of the more stupid things he's said. Plenty of videos of cops taking a bullet to the chest, and staying in the fight because of their vest.
between that and his brace comments he's risking delegitimizing his comprehensive knowledge base, because of a few boomerisms.
@@carnut666 well sounds like the criminal may have been competent in at least hitting his target. ;)
I Don't get it. Can you explain it like I'm five? As in fighting people who would aim for center mass?
@@carnut666 he did clarify that armor is important if you have it. But, bare in mind, your body armor generally only covers your torso, which is about 36% of your total body surface area, if that.
@@pitbull82 basically. He said its cool when armor works, but, when you're hit somewhere you're not armored, your fancy armor didnt do anything.
If getting hit in the front plate means you messed up, getting hit in the rear plate must be double secret probation messed up.
@@kenofken9458 AMEN
@@kenofken9458 little late at that point, chief. :P
A set of those Poly plates will be going in my daughter's carrier.
Cotton when you absolutely want the bullet to just go on it's way
If you run really quick and wear black pyjamas you don't need body armour ;)
If you keep reassuring yourself how great your god is, you dont even need to aim.
The poly plates are really interesting for the weight savings.
Do they have a shelf life or are they good until shot
All armor has a "Shelf life"
Not to mention steel plates just turn you into a steel target...
Weight saving but not wallet saving 😅
I literally just purchased some armor. It arrived 2 weeks ago. Sad thing is I can't wear it yet because I'm also recovering from a collapsed lung and cant even lift the damned plates or I'm tearing through sutures, staples and probably muscle. At least it's there for after recovery right? Hahaha
Long time fan James, hope you get your speech impediment worked out soon brother. Stay sharp!
Thank you James! You are awesome! Right at the top of the community!
To think that my friend has been gone 5 months is baffling. And to think that the signs were present over a year ago and so many of us didn’t notice is heartbreaking. I’ll see you one day soon old friend, you are still the man amongst men. Remember boys and girls, our responsibility to stay ready for the fight never ends.
I've driven by the AR500 facility probably 100 times. Pretty cool to have a company like that based in my home state.
Right on
Love this! Thank you for all you do!!
Thnxs 4 uploading
My pleasure
Keep up the content
Showbiz man this guy is still and has been my favorite go to, James thank you for just being you man.
Thank You, James Yeager! Excellent Analogy!
Thanks James
Prayers for your health James.
THANK YOU!!! , FOR THE INFO YEAGER 😊
Good info thx!
Thanks for the good video James
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video. I learned new info. Wish you well health Sir. Thank you.
Veritas carrier landing this Friday with level III curved plates. Hope it never gets used, but I fear your right James. It may be needed, soon.
Well said my friend!
Great video. Learned something from this video today. Thanks James
Glad to hear it!
Lolol, “who is shooting at you? Korean vets mad at you being on their lawn?” Funny stuff. Body armor is definitely not a first line of defense, it’s a backup to the things you’re supposed to be doing to avoid catching rounds. It’s there in case you mess up.
You left us with an incredible gift my friend
Just here it is, facts. Love your information and videos.
Love your choice. Have four sets myself.
Thanks for the video! Good information. Hope everything works out with the tongue issue.
“I think we are going to need it soon” 😳
Paying for you James, hope you get better.
Thanks for the video. I guess for now I'll keep the steel level 3+ plates in my testudo. Definitely interested in these other plates.
Good stuff
Your doing well all good advice 👍
Great video
Thanks!
too bad I already got sets on a couple years ago through the same company though g James I just chose the extra coating for spiraling up and All steel longer shelf life I like the stuff you're getting into though looks a little lighter have a good one thank you for all your work
I have the Freeman and the Veritas from AR500armor and I love them both. The Veritas is my main set and the Freeman is a smaller lighter weight set as a backup or just as an extra set for someone else if it comes down to that. AR500armor is literally a 2 hour drive north of me in Phoenix and they don't BS when it comes to their products 👍
I have the AR500 "steel" plates and they are labeled 20 year shelf life, the poly and ceramic plates have the 5 year shelf life. I have the "Light weight" cut like the one James has on the table. The weight is not to bad... only slightly heavier than the ceramic plates. Since I don't have to hump them around all day the few extra ounces are not as important as the extended life. As a medic on a safety team I keep my vest in my truck for active threat situations and since I live in the "Free" state of Arizona the steel stands up to the heat better than other plate materials.
Thanks James for the video. When I was in the Service all we had were flack vests. Great for grenades but not so good against someone shooting at you. Anyway I’m 67 and in most cases I won’t need rifle rated armor, maybe up to 44 mag with a stab rating.
As for the plates you show they look like quality stuff! Take care of that cold guy!
Grounded with unicorn horn, best spell coating on the market lol
👍 Spot on sir.
I like AR500 plates. They are super easy to work with. Nice IFAKs too.
Agreed!
Hey Tom. That's what I was wearing in our class. 3+ in a Testudo. Good stuff
"Are ya making korea vets mad?" - Lost it right here. Literal tears in my eyes. JY in top form on this one lol
Cotton never spawls. Got it. James you rock brother.
The tongue issue sounded much better today! Barely noticeable at all. Good luck with treatment, thanks for the video.
The AR500 Veritas carrier can be upgraded with cummerbund and other items to be a great rifle rated carrier if you like me find that the Testudo can be bulky, impeding flexibility and hot.
Gran Torino reference…nice
People shop for body armor like their gonna walk away unscathed.... Dude if you’re in a gunfight it’s gonna be a bad day no matter what
Good point , there's lots of areas not protected that can get hit .
Great stuff! I got 4 level 4 plates front back side to side. And a 3+ ab plate😂 heavier than shit worth every damn pound!
I purchased from ar-500, actually had maxed out my last(and only) credit card last year for a 1000 rounds of 9mm and level 3+ plates with the coating and side plates, including a carrier. I was absolutely too un knowledgeable concerning the armor, and I didn't spend the money for the shooter cut, or curvature. Also got steel instead of another material, because I was too stupid to realize I wouldn't be fuckin able to run around with 30 pounds of additional kit, literally a only concern was the shelf life and ability to take rounds. Never once thinking that maybe I just would not be surviving if someone got 8 rounds of steel core off on me without me reacting lol. All the gunfire I've encountered before was without armor and I only caught ricochet/spalling from a wall into my back. I like to ramble on these videos for some reason, anyway it was 450 bucks including shipping 34 pounds or however heavy it was for 2 front/back panels, 2 side panels, 20 year 3+ fraglock sprayed plates and a carrier. I think it was the same price as the case of sellier and bellot 9mm I bought. I didn't start get seriously prepared until the year before last, and obviously not even close to seriously enough. The one thing I don't regret, is spending that last thousand bucks. I have the ammo and armor not, and am sufficiently more versed in armor, and manipulating my body and weaponry with it. Solid company, solid buy.
well could still use flat plates minus the sapi and keep carrier slick to tuck under seat etc. truck car etc lays flatter as a passenger usable system
@@charaznable2379 I removed the side plates and repurposed them, that brought it down a whopping 10 pounds, and switching my battle rifle to an AR variant lowered the weight another 5. After that I started jogging with them and casually wearing the carrier around the house to get my bitch ass body in better shape lol. Just like having an AK as my main battle rifle previously, all learning steps. Every time I've been involved in live fire was with and versus pistols so I had to a lot to learn. Thank you for the feedback and suggestion, will definitely keep that in mind!
I think we’re gonna need it soon... sure seems so. and cotton doesn’t spall... 😂 good shit 🤙🏽🇺🇸
Cotton armor is the way to go 👍🏻
can you do another plate carrier set up video? maybe something more minimal
The best plates are coated with pixie dust, so I've heard. Unicorn horn coatings are on midrange plates, mostly.
Not everyone has that kind of cash laying around. AR500Armor Unicorn coated plates are for the working class.
I wonder how many seat belts fail? But they save more lives than they take. There are no guarantees in safety equipment but I would sooner have the deck stacked in my favor. Besides as you said if I am not taking care of business then I will need more than the plates. Best someone build a Mech Tech suit out of anti ballistics armor. I wonder if the beast is available instead.
Seat belts kill more people than most probably realize . I saw a guy freshly strangled from a seatbelt in a car wreck. It changed my perspective a bit. Not saying don’t wear one if you want, just saying
greetings from az
I have a 3A plate, do you recommend moving up in rating?
I have never heard of a 3A plate...but YES get rifle rated plates.
People expect them to last forever. As far as I am concerned if they save me once they have paid for themselves. I am not looking for something that will see me through two events. They do their job and save my life then the game is won.
I know I am late to the party, but my question is there a comparison between AR500, Spartan Armor and RTS Tactical ?? I am trying to make an informed choice and decision about which system would be right for me for my job.
I have spartan swimmers cut. Great movement but their carriers arent the greatest. I am trying ar500 now.
What fails on steel plates over time? Is it the coating that might peel off, or rust where we can't see it, or ? Just curious what we're looking for when we're inspecting our gear.
Nothing
Steel worker here: Unless we're talking about half life here the only thing screwing up your steel will be oxidation aka rust. What makes steel rust? Oxygen. Oxygen may react with steel by just contact with air or liquids as water or acids.
So if your coating wears off: paint or in some other fashion caot that steel so nothing comes into contact with it. Just make sure whatever you're coating with doesn't contain acids.
@@andrewhalo100 Yeah that makes sense. Rubber dries out over time. I bet tho that if you treat it with silicone grease or something of the sort from time to time you extend that period. Maybe silicone isn't the correct fat to use but you get the sense of it.
@@andrewhalo100 Then maybe silicone grease would work fine as its usually used to lubricate plastics.
The fraglock coating serves to protect the steel from the elements, and the build up coat will hell contain fragmentation. There are also add-on items that will contain fragmentation, but it’s important to deal with that one way or another.
I love my AZ.
I never got the hole spall coat. #1 I will have a plate carrier with a bunch of shit on it to absorb some of the “spalling”. #2 plate carriers with plates and gear on it is already heavy. I don’t want to add a pound of spall coating, I’d rather have another load 30rd mag.
@1:00 is how I basically purchase all my stuff. Like everything. Friends call me crazy, but I don't give a shit lol.
Love it wish I could buy everything under these criteria
@@matthewphillips6823 most stuff besides electronics is possible. Just takes a lot.of Google/Amazon searching forreal. That's how I find almost everything.
What is your opinion on safelife body armor?
Where is it made?
@@JamesYeagerofTacticalResponse from the webpage it looks like safe life defense is made in Las Vegas.
@@JamesYeagerofTacticalResponse @dwhazlewood77 armor panels in China nylon gear in Nevada

Welcome
I have learned that I should wear a shirt over my body armor.
I like that logic that armor is like insurance never wanna use it always want to have it.
Cotton for the win!!!
I would like to invest in this company.
I wish i watched this prior to buying plates!
I don’t know why I got such a kick out of the flourish when he threw the page…alas I did.
I have a sapi plate is only rate up 7.62 I’m not in a lot of money considering covid, and medically retired, but I was wondering if I slide a Steal plate underneath it, would that upgrade to any ap or 30.06? Thanks.
That would definitely up your rating. I don't know how much but that will be adding a considerable amount of weight to your carrier. I would hold with what you have for right now and slowly save for higher rated plates. Spartan armor has decent prices on plates too. From soft armor to ceramics, steel or hybrids with ceramic and steel.
@@gabrielf1911 thanks o yeah heavier for sure, my carrier is I think 14x12 in the front and 12x10 in the back, don’t know why but whatever, the plate in the back is 30.06 ap rated, so it heavy or more money.
You know that 30.06 is 7.62x39 correct? Sapi plates are just about your best option. Steel is absolute trash. And sliding an additional plate behind one is a dumb idea. All you're doing is incapacitating yourself for nothing.
The 7.62 x39 yes sir I do.
@@michaelbrowning1476 thanks for your comment, not to argue, but have you or know of anyone testing my theory?
Why do plates need spall coating in the first place? Wouldn't it be better to toss a steel plate in a sleeve to catch the spalling?
You mean like a CARRIER?
When I buy stuff I look for veteran owned and operated!
Bro! I’m totally not on your lawn! Don’t shoot, it’s a cotton t-shirt! lol
Heard 5' of cotton t shirts can stop ...
you from moving.
The NIJ stamp is just for Bureaucrats it is also an extremely expensive process to go through, if that plate had that stamp it would cost WE THE PEOPLE an extra 200 to 300 bucks per plate.
That's another negative thing about wool, it may still be warm when it gets wet, but it's itchy and unlike a cotton t-shirt, it causes serious spalling when struck by most rifle rounds.
Damn...
Alumina PE plates like this are the current state of affairs. Hard to find affordable US versions.
I live 2 miles from there shop cool guys just sucks they are so busy the shop is closed to the public for now and miss just going to shot the shit and see what’s new
The coating on the AR500 Lightweight Level III+ steel plates I bought have a 20-YEAR SHELF LIFE... not 5 year!
"Durable: exclusive FragLock™ coating for 20-year shelf life"
Frag will still go right through it. 55-grain Tula if you shoot it out of a 20" barrel will punch right through the actual plate.
@@BucketVolley118 you must be new here... From AR500's site:
- unparalleled multi-hit capability compared to ceramic or polyethylene armor
and Level III+ is rated for 7.62x39 / 7.62x51 / 5.56 M193 & M855 / .223 Win / .308 Win... so NO... "frag" will not go through the armor.
I wasn't reviewing steel plates in this video.
@@hightechterror any 556 or 223 or higher calibers will zip right through that armor if its above 3000 fps multiple pics and vids proving it
@@hightechterror no armor out there will stop your blistering cartridges ie 220 swift or 250
I drive by AR500 daily, when they first opened their new spot they gave away tons of free plate carriers, it was cool
That’s why I only buy Cooper tires. They are made in Ohio and it’s an American owned company. Goodyear bought Cooper in the first quarter of this year, but Goodyear is still American owned from my research, and the Cooper plant is still open with all of its employees.
I hear you James, so what you are saying is that we should have armor made out of 1000 T-Shirt?
Froot of the loom 1000😂🤣
My RMA plates are certified 10 years
Kowalski 😂🤣😂
Roger that. I'm trying to think of anything I have that I rely upon for surviving calamity and lasts forever, can't find anything. I continue to purchase body armor every 3 or 4 years, it's worth the cost.

The AR500 Testudo is like a mustache with titties! That being said, I'm thinking its time to upgrade my flat steel plates.
I’ve got new gun owners in my family and being able to just send them your videos really makes the first steps easy. Now to get them in a class…
Nice!
If my Dad shoots at you while on his lawn, you best be using lots of movement and cover.
I like love my PE plates …
if you’re lucky enough to have a person shooting at you that can hit your armor. Odds are your gonna have a trigger jerking bitch who’s going to hit you everywhere but the armor. Courtesy of “Mr. Clint Smith”
I would still rather have it then not
Numb tongue when you talk for a living????? That's rough. Hope you get it sorted quickly.
Poly, ceramic, steel, hell no!!! For me Fruit of the Loom baby!!!!
It's splatter not spalling. If spalling occurred on your AR 500 plate you'd be out of the fight.
