    I remember going on a drug rehabilitation retreat in high school to the Everglades and couldn’t believe the wildlife there. I’m from Illinois and the most we see is skunks, deer, and turtles, but seeing alligators while kayaking really had me in awe. Thanks to that retreat and 6 years later I’ve been opiate free since.

      +Outbound Shane That's cool! Are the wetlands in Louisiana protected?

    • @OutboundShane
      @OutboundShane 8 лет назад +10

      Opposite of protected in most areas unfortunately. Louisiana lost marsh the size of Rhode Island in the past 50 years. Have a look on Google Maps at the satellite pictures of the Golden Meadow, La. area and you'll see the canals the oil companies constructed over the years destroyed most of the marsh that was once solid. Florida is protecting their wetlands, but here in Louisiana its all talk and no action unfortunately.

    • @OutboundShane
      @OutboundShane 8 лет назад +8

      +TB Wild Images We're in desperate need of action like the Everglades had in the 1970s or Louisiana will lose most of the salt marsh within 30 years due to manmade coastal erosion. It's a serious situation here in Louisiana and the crooked politicians could care less about saving the marsh. America's biggest environmental disaster goes largely unnoticed.

    • @tbwildimages9993
      @tbwildimages9993 8 лет назад +6

      +Outbound Shane That is sad and surprising. I know that the water, and the outdoors in general, plays a significant role in the Louisiana culture. Hopefully the situation can be rectified in the near future. Here in Florida, wetlands are fairly well regulated. Some counties are more strict than others. In the Tampa Bay area, where I live, conserving wetland areas is a top priority :)

      There are a lot of great parks in the U.S. Comparing the wildlife in the Everglades to anywhere else is kind of silly though. No one has wildlife like the Everglades. It's a unique place and that's why it's so depressing it's endangered. But I wouldn't put down Idaho. Idaho also encompasses part of Yellowstone, which also has an insane amount of wildlife. I saw bison, wolves, proghorn, and bison within 1 hour there! They're very different, but both great.
