At 4:24 the Guild pull-off on the E (6) string and hammer-on the A (5) string clearly differentiates the Guild's superior clarity and purity of sound from the Gibson's. That is why folk artists of the 60's like Paul Simon and myself loved them. The first, third and fifth notes in chords sing with Guild's, even ones made in China's, I see. Apple iPhones and iPads are made in China too by he way.
I would most likely pick up the Guild more often simply because of the deeper and mellower tone. Love the Gibson too of course but it is a bit thinner and brighter to my ears. Having both on hand to choose between would be the best situation to be in.
Paul This shootout is going to get interesting ! Not to take anything away from the Guild ,, the Gibson pulled through. I don`t know if it was "Better" that the Guild but the Gibson has the iconic sound we all have hear on countless records !
The extra depth and resonance of the Gibson wins for me. The guild sounds very good though. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on one for awhile. You should try the guild f-240e if you get a chance. Obviously not maple, but it’s a great budget jumbo.
Neither is solid wood back and sides. Gibson sounds thrashy at times, but overall I think I beats the Guild. I have a 150ce Guild (Jumbo with solid Rosewood back and sides) and if it’s a good example, the thick glossy finish hurts the tone on these. A fairer comparison would be a US made Guild.
Honestly can’t choose between these....the guild is tremendous value....both sound awesome...just a matter of application or taste. Guild maybe better as a worship guitar....to cut through the mix for example....Gibson sounds earthy and awesome too....I can’t choose...I want both! ❤❤
The Guild will win again, in my opinion. It simply has more depth, richness and punch. The Gibson is nice, but just doesn’t reach the same height as the Guild. Well done, brother man 👍🏻
Guild never set out to produce a Gibson clone. The Gibson sounds classic Gibson. The Guild is much more maple sounding with resonance and sheen. Toss up.
The Gibson, all day long paul!!!! Excellent tunes you played!!! like something from a contemporary cowboy movie.

Some one brought a gun to a knife fight
Gibson just roars.
It's like a blend between Guild and Sigma, taking best of both: sparkling highs and roaring bottom.

I don’t think guild stopped producing the non cut away version. They’ve always had both models as far as I know.
Thanks! Was there one you preferred over the other between this and the Gibson J100?

I like sound of the Gibson better 😌

Guild
Gibson is easily the better ot the 2. Would like to hear it against the higher end Sigma though.
Guild is the obvious winner....more balanced ... and Gibson sounds "thinner"....

Thanks, this Guild is punching way above its weight class. It’s the best $500 guitar I’ve ever played
