  • My family joins me as we travel to Derby, Indiana to deliver the quick attach loader bucket conversion that was custom fabricated for fellow RUclipsr "Captain Kleeman". We made a few family memories while in beautiful Derby as well, so bear with me as I try to document the trip in my first ever attempt at a "vlog" style video. It was a great experience getting to meet with Captain Kleeman and work with him on his "RUclips Yacht" project. Be sure to check out the Captain's RUclips channel and tell him I sent you. Also while visiting Derby I got to meet a couple other well known RUclipsrs by the names of "Dirt Perfect" and "Logger Wade". If you haven't heard of either of those fellas, make sure you pay a visit and mention where you heard of them.
While at Captain Kleeman's we reattached the quick attach bucket conversion to his John Deere 755 compact tractor and then did a little side project to increase the relief valve pressure so that he could lift just a little bit more to help with the additional weight added by the quick attach hardware. Then, Captain Kleeman fires up Dirt Perfect's John Deere 120 Excavator and begins excavation at the future site of his cabin in the woods that will be built to resemble a tug boat, that he has dubbed as the "RUclips Yacht". We work for a couple hours and then move on to a tour of Derby Indiana where I meet a few of the local RUclips folks.
Our family had a great time as we got to play double duty and witness my first RUclips collaboration and spend some quality family time on a little weekend getaway.
Thanks again to Captain Kleeman for hosting us and being such a great guy to work with. Be sure to check out his channel!
If you read the description this far, then let me know what you think of this vlog style video that includes my family. I was nervous about doing this and would appreciate the feedback.
Thanks so much for watching, liking and commenting!

Horse wrangling, spelunking, mechanicing, digging, sight seeing, visiting and pancakes.... this trip had it all!
Derby is on my list of places to see. I have two brothers that live within a hunnert miles of there... I’m a thinking I am gonna wander that way next summer.
Thanks for equipping the Cap’n. He’s one of those genuine guys that I truly want to succeed!
Oh, there was another thing that you did... you got to operate the 755. That’s on my bucket list too!!!!
Uplifting and well built video. Thanx for posting.

It was great to finally get to Derby in person. The QA bucket was the perfect excuse for a getaway and I couldn't have found a better guy to partner up with. Kleeman really is just a genuinely nice guy.
Thanks for the kind words on the video. I was nervous about uploading something different from the normal digging job or tractor based video. It sure makes my wife happier when she sees one like this once in awhile :) I appreciate your support in the comments.

No need to be nervous Neil. There are loads of tractor / digging based you tubers out there but very few who are worth a sub. You and your family are genuinely engaging to watch and that’s what keeps it interesting. Same goes for Captain, Dirt Perfect, MBTS etc. More please.

@@markdavies9912 Thanks for the affirmation and feedback. I find it difficult to gauge ones self and try to interpret what is interesting to others versus what is interesting to just me or family. RUclips is a tricky widget to understand. Since you've been so generous with feedback, can I ask what you think is a good video length? Personally I tend to click on videos more often if they're less than 10 minutes. My goal is to get to a point where my videos are about that length. I'm not having good luck keeping it that way! It's hard to cut out 90% of what you film! Thanks again.

@@digdrivediy again, it depends on content and style. I watch videos by the Lock Picking Lawyer which are always short and punchy which is perfect for his channel but for yours and the others I mentioned I think I as a viewer get more invested in the characters, the backstory and the content so I prefer a longer video (30 mins or so). If it’s any guide, I watch your videos at normal speed and don’t get tempted to skip forward. To me, that sounds like your format works right?

My septic tank is sitting in sold granite. It took all day to break up that hole with a 6" hammer on a 320 Cat trackhoe. The house is sitting on mostly shale so it was dug with a ripper tooth, but the frost footing for the walkout is solid granite so it's only 18" deep. Last year we buried our propane tank. It too was in shale but still took a couple of hours. with a 322 Cat. Our neighbor is building a garage and house with Post Frame construction. They spent two days drilling the holes for the posts with a machine that was pretty incredible. It onlytook 20 minutes to drill an 18" hole 48" deep in solid rock.

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  3 года назад

That's amazing to hear that kinda stuff. I have never really got to dig in anything further away than an hour from my house until working with Kleeman. It's tough to imagine dealing with it all the time since it is all just nothing but dirt around here. We have different types of dirt obviously, but no rock to deal with other than the occasional gravel vein. On that garage, it makes me wonder why even drill the posts? Couldn't they just tie into the granite with a slab and use it as a pre-existing footing? In any case it is awesome that we have such advancements to deal with those kind of problems. I can't believe drilling into that solid granite with an 18" auger! Thanks so much for the interesting story and for watching the channel. Take care.

@@digdrivediy I totally agree. I hope to put up a shop some day and I've come to the conclusion that a slab on grade with a 12x12 perimeter of concrete and steel is all I need.
