Really enjoy your videos and the realistic way you talk about knitting and life. Thank you for being willing to talk about things. I know it helps me realize that others also understand hard things. Wether it’s finding motivation or knowing what to do next. Excited to see where this year takes us both!
The Sharpei sweater looks lovely on you- both fit and color! The pattern very much matches the dog breed. At least I assume that was the designer’s inspiration. I always enjoy all the different directions your podcasts take.
Hi Karoline love your podcasts. Like you I love Zakhami yarns and often buy from them at yarn shows. At the moment am knitting with that same camel silk you have together with some lovely advent minis. So soft and drapey. 🥰hope you keep well Hazel 🧶x love your friends podcasts also Laura and Lizzie x
It's so awesome that you can share your personal journey and I truly appreciate how raw & vulnerable it can make you feel. So thank you for having the courage to share your personal story as well as all the knitting content. Sometimes making those hard decisions, even though they cause you heartache & grief, bring you to another place & strenghthen your future journey. All the best Karoline, loved this episode!
Karoline, this was one of the best podcasts and I say this because you show life exactly how it is for you along with your phenomenal knitting projects and yarn knowledge. I am happy to hear you are feeling better and I can resonate with everything you have been and are feeling . Sometimes life can just weigh us down and it’s difficult to keep going at the same rate day in and day out. I love the approach you are working towards as i also feel working towards long term vs short term is more ideal. You truly are the most honest and real podcaster I follow and thank you for sharing all with us. You got this Karoline!
What an interesting podcast about fibers! You really took a big deep dive into the topic. I agree with you, factual / non-fiction books can be really useful for just before bed. By the way this colour really does look stunning on you in this vid !! You're glowing :D
Another great video. I especially love that you talk about the different fibers in yarn. As a new-ish garment knitter I learn a lot from you in that area. So Thanks. And I wish you a happy and healthy 2023.
Hi Karoline, I’ve struggled with depression and MH issues since my teens and started knitting after reading an article about how knitting and crochet can help with mental health, so can relate to a lot of what you have said. Thank you for being so brave in talking about your MH as it really helps to shift the stigma. My morning routine from 1st January has involved listening to a meditation on insight timer (its a free open source app - highly recommend) whilst I drink my coffee, sometimes doing the practice I’m listening to and sometimes focussing on the coffee and I feel a little better since I built it in to my routine. I start an 8 week mindfulness meditation course next week and I can honestly say it’s the first thing I’ve looked forward to in a long time. I think the last few years have really rocked a lot of people. Wishing you a peaceful, easy on yourself year x
I've downloaded insight timer - thank you for the recommendation! It sounds like something that can really help me in the mornings as that is what I struggle with the most (together with having a good bedtime routine). Hope you also have a peaceful and easy on yourself year ❤️
Welcome to the sheep breed rabbit hole 😀 I spin (I actually learned that before knitting,) and I love that book- it made me want to try all the breeds, and to convince my Zwartbles sheep farmer friend get one of each! I often knit with Irish wools, & the main traditional breed here is the Galway. I’ve done 2 jumpers & currently knitting a vest with it, and my next project with it will be some DK socks. It’s a longer, rustic Wool, and I’m pretty sure it will make good socks, especially if I spin it myself. I’d be happy to post you a skein if you’d like to try it! Thanks for speaking about mental health ✨🤗
I so wish I could have sheep myself! Maybe one day when we buy the small farm we're always dreaming of 😂 I'd love to try Galway so if your offer is genuine I'd love to buy a skein from you!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think we don’t really share that much of a similar taste knitting wise but I always appreciate your thoughts and insights so much. I just moved to the country side after going through a lot the last 3 years and feel the need for a slower pace. Going for long walks in nature and taking things step by step every day. But I often feel very alone with this after the pandemic. A lot of my friends are enjoying the fast pace of everything being possible again like travelling, socialising and going out (and I’m happy for them). I just feel very detached from that life. So you actually sharing to aim for a slower pace for this year as well, was really nice to hear. All the best to you for this year. ( I also nearly got a dog 2 weeks ago and had to admit that it wasn’t the right time yet)
Awww thank you ❤️ I so feel alone frequently out here - I do sometimes miss my life in a big city and everything that gave me, but also know it would no longer be the same and that I have changed. Hopefully there's a pup in the future for both of us when the time is right 🥰
I’ve knitted pleats a couple of times in the past and have sworn off them forever. I’m absolutely amazed that you got it done in less than a year! It looks great though. I know what you mean about the heartbreak of the right decision - wow, you did really well. One of the hardest things.
Hey. I completely understand how heartbroken you must have felt with your decision to not have another dog right now. Me and my boyfriend hade to make the same decision a month ago and it was really hard for us both. I find it really nice of you to also talk about your struggles since it’s really private. But it always feels good to hear other talk about the same struggles and not feel to alone. Have a lovely rest of the day
Interestingly it seems quite a few can relate to making the hard choice of it not being the right time just now - makes me glad I mentioned it! Have a lovely day too ❤️
Thinking about what longer term rather than shorter term feels good really resonates with me. It's not the easiest to do but sure feels the best when it's on its way... Happy to hear that you are feeling better. And finding ways to be at peace with the decisions in life is definitely the way to go, it's so helpful to move forward... I personnaly feel a lot better since I tried that regarding my job in particular. It feels nice to stop struggling in you own head and feeling in the wrong place and frustrated.
It really is the way to do it - though it sounds easier in theory than it always is in practice. But you just have to take it one day at a time! I can't take credit for the short term versus long term - it was actually Ben that said it to me one time we were talking about it, and it really resonated with me too why I seem to struggle to move forward.
Hi Karoline! I found your channel a few weeks ago and watched all of your episodes, I love your podcast! Thank you for taking the time to put it out there. Your knits are beautiful and I really like your honesty. I feel very inspired! I want to knit the wednesday sweater, the office sweater... and many more. And try the Snefnug! You often mention you having eczema, I am sorry and I apologize if this is out of topic, but if you ever feel like talking about it a little I would love to know if you found things in general that helped because my 18 months old little boy has eczema and it's rough... On another note, I have The Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook, such a great book! Emma from Woolly Mammoth (podcaster and yarn dyer) ran an interesting experiment on non SW non nylon sock yarn, it's very interesting. She talks about it in some of her episodes and, if I remember correctly, on her blog too. I haven't tried her sock yarn but I tried the Mondim by Rosa Pomar and I love it.
More than happy to share what worked for me! I do have the type babies/small children often gets. For me, it has been figuring out what triggers it. That seems to be mainly stress (so exam season when I studied and really busy times at work now) can bring it about. I really react to lots of water and overwashing, so when I have bad outbreaks what mainly helps is to limit hot showers as much as possible. I also use a thick moisturiser (preferably with a high content of petrolatum, essentially vaseline) that is completely unscented after every single shower, and that makes such a difference to me. I really like the ones from Superdrug's own brand - they come in big tubs but are very affordable. I've also used a lot of Locobase and Decubal, but that is harder to come by here. My skin also likes anything oat based and I try to look for that especially for my face. Going more natural with shampoo and conditioner has really helped my scalp especially (I use Noughty at the moment and for the first time ever have no dandruff). I have also in bad outbreaks gone for as unscented washing powder etc that I can find as my skin doesn't like heavy perfume. Also in bad periods I have moisturised more frequently and not just after showers. When the skin is really bad I have in the past used steroid creams but have always reserved it for when the skin is unbearably painful, especially when it would start breaking or be on such large areas that I was in constant discomfort (I had the complete back of my legs covered during exam season once and I couldn't comfortably sit down for an exam). I had really bad pompholyx on my hands in 2020 that kept me awake at night with itch and that can only really be controlled using steroids and luckily that made it go away after the third attempt with steroid creams. They're not great for long-term use but sometimes you just need to do what you can to survive. Hopefully your boy grows out of it - most do! Mine just returned in my teens with stress and I have now learned to accept I just have constantly red, flaky skin in most places, because at least it offers me less discomfort. For my back a back scratcher is a god send 😂 I can't believe I forgot Emma who is definitely on my list for people to learn more from and to try some of her yarn 😊
@@KarolinesKnits Thank you so much for sharing Karoline! That confirms some of the things that we are trying now and they seem to help (not too many showers, hydratation, natural products, etc). Also, we stopped giving him dairies and saw a real improvement. And oat based creams seem to be really helpful too! But it seems like after a few weeks of use the creams stop to be so efficient so maybe we need to alternate. Anyway, thanks again
Dear Karoline, there are studies prove that merino wool clothing compared with standard clothing provided improvements in severity of atopic dermatitis ( also eczema!) as well as quality of life in atopic patients. Maybe wool healed you!
Thanks for sharing about mental health. I find it refreshing to have you talk about your experience.
Thank you Keiko, that means a lot ❤️
Great episode, Karoline. Thank you for sharing your feelings.
I love the pink sweater on you. It’s beautiful.
Thank you so much! ❤️

I have been learning more about different fibers too. The fiber resource book is wonderful. Your test knit sweater is beautiful.
Thank you so much! ❤️
