Glad you are doing this game. I've watched some others, but you are my favorite reviewer. You've no idea how many games I've bought on your enthusiasm for a game. But I also have to say I don't think you have been more indecisive in any other game. At point I was like, 'just plot down the damn house!'. :)
Am struggling to get past 500 population in this game. Need to rebuild and focus more on economy. Good tip is to use the hire options to keep people from leaving your village..
In terms of building construction, this game is pretty accurate. Before you put a roof on, you need sheer strength in the walls to support the weight of the roof. Post and beam is a little different, but you'd expect to see some sheer bracing at least, and there is none. So the sheer clearly has to come from the wall material. Plus, it's a lot easier to put up roofing on buildings that already have walls up. It would be a pain in the ass to try stuccoing and whitewashing sections of wall covered up by the overhanging thatch, so why make the job more difficult on yourself? It's different from modern buildings, where once you have some sheer up, you can raise your truss package and essentially work on roofing and sheathing at the same time. Once you have a waterproof envelope you can get other tradesmen in to do plumbing and electrical while folks outside are doing stucco since the space under eaves is easily accessible. If there is no plumbing or electrical work to do, getting a roof up before the walls are done is more work for no payoff. I really like that the material delivery occurs in stages. Gives a much more realistic element to scheduling. I get excited about historical building stuff. Only downside is that you still can't build on uneven terrain. That always seemed silly. But putting the game on hyperspeed and complaining that hammer blows come too fast? Real, mate?
Dunno if he figures this out later or not, but you can replant trees behind the forestry by hand. It'll take a bit for them to grow, but you can pack them in there.
What i am looking forward to here is the story mode he wants to implement - i missed things like this in Banished and forest village - this would also increase the unique flavour of this game compared to the other two
It feels like having cart parks near heavy industry areas is ok, more the merrier given space I reckon. For example one by the forge/warehouse and one down by the fishing docks. Another by the next forestry area across the river.
You can replant your trees with the decorative trees. They take a few years to grow to full size, also free to plant (so far). They are protected but you can still have your foresters cut them down. Instead of selecting each tree and removing the protected stat, draw a farm field over the trees you want cut down. They will remove the trees in the area. No need to move your forestry unless you want that area to build in later. Demolishing a building before it is built can crash your game so try to keep that to a minimum.
See here tip don't put down alot buildings at once at beginning bc ur people will split the up wood to build then if ur wood Factory not built then what ur going to do for wood
You can rename your people in this game, maybe for your subs or patreons.Just go into the folder were you installed the game and you find 3 files named Female names,Male names and Surnames. You can open it with Notepad and name away. Now there are Englisch names and Ukraine names but that is only if you set the language so only change the englisch names if you so choose.
Ive always wondered when you are gonna bring back cities skylines. also, sub since first cities skylines series and have always loved the content. Well done on the content and on the quitting of smoking
Weird Skye! I was in Ukraine last November/December witnessing the new containment being placed over reactor 4 at Chernobyl. The game looks great, thanks for the playthrough.....
You should make a soviet style town, everyone works in the fields or something else, and at like 0,1 wage. Maximum profit! USSR style, what could go wrong?
As soon as friday comes I'm buying myself a copy just so that way I can get the feel for it. Based on what I've seen here I haven't an excellent know-how of what to do in the game from the get-go. By the way nice vid today skye see you on discord is you plan to be there any time soon ;)
If you look in the bottom right corner you see that you are playing Alpha 1. In my game, it says Alpha 3. In my game the building noise is what you would expect to hear if you were doing would work in the 18th century. I think this game looks great and has lots of potential. I have it a little over three days now. Do you have a more current let's play? I just noticed this is from 2017.
I really wasn't fan of Banished or RimJob, but this seems nice. Also that meander and height distribution around the riven looks like small Prag, only you start on the wrong shore.
Looks like an interesting game! Thanks for posting! But may I suggest greater spacing between buildings? I play Bannished and use stone houses with decent spacing to avoid fires ravaging my towns. Are their disasters in this game?
I don't get it. I have tried 8 times now and followed you building plan. However I cannot get but 2 houses fully built by the Dec deadline. I am taking the people out of wood production and putting them on houses as early as July. Still can't get them to work faster. Very frustrating.
I don't quite understand your plan. Since you could get your nine houses built at September. Was there any reason you didn't build farm before houses? If so, You could get food supported and immigrations at the first year. BTW, The first, I do enjoy your vids BTW, The senond, Patch 6 is out, are you going to make new vid(s) about it?
in alot of ways this is more realistic. How many women forresters /lumberjacks and construction workers do you think there are today. easily 95% and up are all men in those jobs. They are hard jobs. And dangerous. For men atleast in my experience a job that includes danger can make it more fun and interesting. Women on the other hand for the most part find that a negative part of the job instead of a positive or non-factor when deciding where to work. Although i dont think i saw u try to hire them in the thatchery. I dont see why they couldnt do that. Also taking care of a family is a full-time job today and even more so back then. Before there was labour and time saving technology like washing machines, dish washers etc.
"It's not like life is feudal, men do all the work, and the women just sit around the campfire gossiping" Ah right, so this game already has a grasp of realism then xD Joking
This is awesome. I really enjoyed watching you play this game and this is the first time I have ever commented on anything on RUclips. I know you probably don't do this but is there any chance that me and my wife Julie can have a shout out on a future video. We have been married 8 weeks now. Thanks.
You can see my PC spec in the video description on any video .. my cpu is pretty old too, an Intel 4790k which has about 2x the performance of your Phenom .. I get around 30fps on a big map with lots of stuff on it. :) Here's a performance comparison - www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+II+X6+1100T&id=394
I'm waiting for the next video. The Ukrainian village looks much more attractive when an English-speaking person talks about it))))))))))))))). My grandparents have the same clay hut, only the roof is tiled, and not from the reeds.
the mmo has just been released over past few days if you wanna look into it, im sure there are group looking for more people and would gladly help you out.
there are not many english speaking youtubers who do LiF videos as well could bring in some more subs but the game is grindy. i would look into it to see if its your style of game.
Personally I think the creator of Ostriv should be commended for portraying life as it really was in the 1700's instead of pampering to modern people's modern sensibilities. Back then men did the heavy lifting and women did the cooking, mending and child raising. This does not mean that women did any less work than men of course. Quite the opposite. A woman would be up before the sun to see to breakfast, farm animals, sewing, cleaning, cooking etc. while the men were cutting trees, hammering metal, planting crops, hunting animals and so on. Over time our technology have progressed to the point where strength is no longer much of an obstacle but take away that technology and we'll be back to the good old days in no time.
"this is what like 17th century ukraine?" From what I'm seeing here it could be just about anything from about the 10th-11th century to about the 17th or 18th century, maybe buildings later in the game will further define the time period, I look forward to attempting to figure it out.
Congratulation Skye, You are the first RUclipsr I have seen that did not lose any of your starting people.
Woohoo! :)
Glad you are doing this game. I've watched some others, but you are my favorite reviewer. You've no idea how many games I've bought on your enthusiasm for a game. But I also have to say I don't think you have been more indecisive in any other game. At point I was like, 'just plot down the damn house!'. :)
lol. so there's finally a more realistic game without a grid - and Skye builds the town on a grid anyway^^
Ostriv is amazing, I'm glad you're doing a series!
This looks great!! I’m so glad that you’re doing a play through! Thanks Skye!!!
And He's back!!!! Whooohooo! Right up my alley of games to play. I knew there's a reason why you're my fave youtuber :)
I hope you and your alley have fun ;)
i watched Keralis play this but i'm more than happy to watch Skye play it too!
The game looks pretty cool, I would love to see more of it.
Can't wait to see more episodes of Ostriv!
More today :)
I feel like a stalker, but I absolutely love love love every gameplay episode you do!!! Laughs and learning new games!!!
Am struggling to get past 500 population in this game. Need to rebuild and focus more on economy. Good tip is to use the hire options to keep people from leaving your village..
I just loved this !! .. So much to think about. Considering this was done by one developer, this game is amazing ..... thanks Skye for sharing :)
To be fair I kind of prefer Life is Feudal, just hoping to see the Castle finished!
john travolta he will probably forget about the castle lol
I don't like the economic system in this game
is life is feudal in solo
just getting into this - glad to find this video by you

Enjoyed that Skye. An interesting take on the city building gams
Click on on the town center and you can also see where you can hire or fire builders
What i am looking forward to here is the story mode he wants to implement - i missed things like this in Banished and forest village - this would also increase the unique flavour of this game compared to the other two
This looks interesting. Will be intersting to see how it developes.
I love all of your games!! just keep being awesome, and ill keep watching! :)
Welcome to another adventure of Skye the Slumlord...
Bickety Bam a slumlord that makes you think he is not a slumlord cause of his silver tongue and friendly personality lol
I like this! Please make more episodes!
More tonight Vera :)
It feels like having cart parks near heavy industry areas is ok, more the merrier given space I reckon. For example one by the forge/warehouse and one down by the fishing docks. Another by the next forestry area across the river.
Best place for the Granary in this game is close to a farm or fishing dock, its for food storage.
I've been soooo looking forward to seeing you play this game Skye
I love how the buildings are proper BIG realistic sizes, none of that miniature RTS shit where the people are half the size of the houses.
You can replant your trees with the decorative trees. They take a few years to grow to full size, also free to plant (so far). They are protected but you can still have your foresters cut them down. Skye, your OCD is killing me!
It will look nice when it's done though :)
@@SkyeStorme Grids are not always pretty.
@@SkyeStorme That line reminds me of Command 'N' Counquer: Generals.
who heard skye say 3 hatch per house just kidding and please control your excitement but I love his excitement and gameplay.
?
+skyestorme the man can labor using cart, woman can only deliver by hands, i think, i watch keralis video and kinda notice it
See here tip don't put down alot buildings at once at beginning bc ur people will split the up wood to build then if ur wood Factory not built then what ur going to do for wood
Yessss, Ostriv! Super!
Curious feature...the grass turns into dirt due to constantly using that said path, I like the realism there :P
pleeease, decide where to set the damn buildings already!!! you will take forever
Sky, is always like that. I am like Will you just place already! He is worse than Colonel Failure. At least CF makes frapping about look funny.
Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes!
Looking good so far. :)
I think Skye OCD is strong with this one

Wow! Never thought that you would play a game about Ukrainian village! :D
P.S.: Hi from Ukraine, Skye! Love your vids!
Artem Tverdokhlebov сам в шоке.
Hi Artem :)
Artem Tverdokhlebov забавно как даже на небольших каналах можно встретить своих соплеменников
G'day from Australia Artem.

Hey Walshy :)
właśnie
You should make a soviet style town, everyone works in the fields or something else, and at like 0,1 wage. Maximum profit! USSR style, what could go wrong?
100 000 000 deaths? haha
You clearly have no idea what life was like in the USSR but feel free to chime in with your half-assed opinions
Don't know if you actually got angry bcs of my comment
Office-cloth I didn’t get angry, but I stand by what I said
Office-cloth right
The game idea is 5x better than banished but the art/graphics need work.(IK it is only one guy) I love it. KEEP PLAYING!!!!!!!!
Christopher Reifel Banished, i think, was developed by 1 guy as well
Yep both games each made by 1 developer .. pretty amazing :)
Hey Bud Dont forget to place the building down.
Love your vids. How all is going well with the vaping

demolish only seems to be enabled on some building as of now
9:12 Sky:I believe they are called children. Me:WTF HAVE U NEVER HEARD OF CHILDREN BEFORE???
Also a real economy system and trade with other cities and imigration - great!
Can't find this game on steam. Where did you get it? Maybe you could post a link please.

Looks like an interesting game! Thanks for posting! But may I suggest greater spacing between buildings? I play Bannished and use stone houses with decent spacing to avoid fires ravaging my towns. Are their disasters in this game?
Why not put in a road grid first, and then put in the houses?
hi skye storm iam playing the same game but when i reach dec my half the population moves out cause of no houses available for them
Hey Skye, looks great. Might have to get my hands on a copy. I take it you no longer do anything with Banished?
pick one tree from the starting area and protect it.
If the snapping was changed to 'alt to toggle snapping', it would be a lot easier
Long way to go to get to the quality of Life is Feudal. Looks like its built with basic Unity assets. Hope he finished it though.
Nice game, must try it, but what I took away from this is that you need to sort your OCD out! lol
Why there is no drying laundry hanging on outside the houses? :(
I don't get it. I have tried 8 times now and followed you building plan. However I cannot get but 2 houses fully built by the Dec deadline. I am taking the people out of wood production and putting them on houses as early as July. Still can't get them to work faster. Very frustrating.
whe will the game update? i have had it from the main site for about a week - amazing little builder, maybe the best if it becomes full game
I don't quite understand your plan.

If so, You could get food supported and immigrations at the first year.

Patch 5 and 6 don't have any new content apart from chickens .. I won't be playing again until there's some more new content
Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour at its best!!!

26:30 bloody hell man, when have you ever seen women chopping down trees or building houses? Those are men's jobs and the game is amazingly realistic.

I must've sighed and said "get on with it!" about a million times watching this. Not big on being decisive are you?
they didn't go to so much trouble building the bloody parthenon for christs sake!

TheRedneckGamer1979 it says the date at the top of the screen
The buildings, especially the houses looks like from 4th century Indian village house
