6:31 - I don't think that falls short. Yeah a non-brony won't get the main joke, but it's a muffin basket. If they don't get the joke, then they get the /other/ joke that's presented: a jab at companies just offering "complimentary" things as an apology for an inconvenience, in an immediate attempt to pacify an angered consumer. I don't think it falls short, I think it's rather cleverly designed. If the main joke is missed, they get a back-up joke instead. Not as good, but still fine.

Aww, the Lyra/Bon part was my favorite part. It explains why she has so many voices and appears at certain places. I loved the fact she was a secret agent. Also other obvious reasons.
It's great that Silver brought up the fact that this episode gave enough characterization to these background ponies that from now on the writers have the option to use them as supporting characters if they so desire.
Which they do with the doctor and the fact that he tries to be part of the friendship school

I honestly love this episode. One of the reasons being is that you can imagine this is how all the NPCs are in a tabletop game like D&D or Pathfinder. Just staring on as the Player Characters take on quests and the like. XD

Yet, they're civilians, not trained and professional soldiers. Just take a look at all of the very tragic shootings and terrorist attacks. It's like asking "Why didn't everyone just run at the lone gunman all at once?" and you'll clearly see why they didn't.
Also, there's a psychological phenomenon that the bigger the crowd, the more likely people will just stand by and not doing anything (mainly hoping someone else will step in and solve the issue).

Cause nobody wants to get blown up. Though some crowds aren't so shy, if some terrorist would try to cut someone up, or something, on the street here in Ukraine they wouldn't walk away in one piece. We have so many ex and active millitary and activists walking the street the Police is practicaly here only to collect the packages.

This doesn’t defeat your point, though: while the chance of success is high, the chance of harm being done to oneself is quite high, so I would neither do so myself, nor would I want this strategy to ever be employed, lest someone become a victim
Personally I don't really mind the idea of the a fictional population not fighting back because not everyone knows how to fight. As great as it would be seeing the background characters contribute? I'm not too broken uo by the everyday person not being able to through a punch.

headcannon for the derpy/ditzy/muffins thing in universe. she was born ditzibella Dupree do ( ditzy doo for short), and at some point some of her friends gave her the nickname derpy, due to a face she made once and her sometimes goofy esque mannerisms. for a time she and others were happy with the nickname, but eventually some ponies belived it to be malicious and insulting( their were both ponies who were genuanly concerned for her, and uppity easily offended snobs). not wanting to offend anyone ditzy dropped the name, but she wanted her friends to have something fun to call her, to try to make everypony happy. hence she tried names like bubbles, bright eyes, fan favorite( that raised a few pony eyebrows), snuggle bubble muffin( that got her a few really weird looks), till she finally settled on muffins( her friends just gave that a "meh"). as for silver's suggestion of "the muffin mare" she's called that in universe too- as a masked hero who fights evil using an arsenal of trick muffins that work as everything from explosives, smoke bombs, knock out gas, expanding goo, and other uses. think green arrow, but with baked goods. she thinks it's a secret, but pretty much everypony knows they just choose not to bother her about it. that and just imagine dinky in a little robin costume:)

This was a fun review. I personally really enjoyed this episode via humor, the perspective given to different characters, and a unique message (at least for this kind of show). Also, I like the point you brought up regarding the audience perspective. I think that's something to always keep in mind when viewing an episode.

I go to school for landscaping and floral design and the way the flower ponies act is really accurate in my eyes ha!
I almost went full nerd. I started a comment to protest that if you assault a time lord so soon after regenerating, he still has leftover regeneration energy and can recover. But then I realized just how fanboy it is to know this, and even moreso to point it out in a 'You are mistaken!' corrective manner.
Babbleplay The question is, though, would time lords work the exact same in equestria?
I've gotta admit - I liked the Lyra/BonBon segments. While I do know there was no goal in mind for them, I've learned that sometimes it's the journey that matters most. (Look at Pinkie Apple Pie. The ending was a large anti-climax, while the rest of it was nothing short of hilarious.) And, besides, I couldn't help but just laugh at how inane BonBon's dialogue got, and how Lyra got more and more confused like the rest of us.
The segment I disliked the most was Steven Magnet's segment, however. Yes, I get that weddings are big businesses, but he could tell she was stressed out enough. In other words, he showed just as much tact as Rainbow Dash did during Pinkie Pride, except where it fits Rainbow, it doesn't fit Steven at all.
But, that's just my opinion. :P
Ah who cares about the little girls watching the show, we never did then and we won't now. All that matters is a bunch of 30 year old neckbeard bronies get the references.
Edit: Lyra and Bon Bon are "friends". Sure that's what they were signifying whilst staring lovingly into each other eyes of what could possibly have been their last time together, not knowing when they'd see the other mare again, or how she could live without- ah-hem I got a bit carried off but you know what dat look in the ep was for.

8:30 - I have to admit that I never bothered to watch "Dr. Who" until just last fall, when Retro TV started showing old Who eps with Dr. #1. I probably would've skipped them if not for Dr. Whooves, though.
I think the references were fine. I have never seen the "Big Lobowski", but I still enjoyed the bowling scene.
I knew that some of the equations were actually pretty relevant in that scene but I never expected them all to be so relevant to the movement of a ball, someone who worked on that episode is really into physics :D Physics is the best science (In my opinion).

The Red Pearl l Nah. Thorax was sad because he had no friends, but Kevin clearly has friends, as he was invited to a wedding.
According to the staff, he's one of Matilda's friends.
Personally I've seen three different opinions on this episode: 1, "ERMAGEURD, BACKGROUND PONIES, BEST EPISODE EVAH!". 2, "God, this episode was nothing but pandering, worse than Double Rainboom, shark-jumping, worst episode ever!". And 3, "Eh, that was okay. Appreciate the thought, writers". All opinions I can completely understand, but I'm personally in the third opinion.
I know it's fanservice, but I still got some entertainment and surprises out of it, even if the story did feel all over the place. It's not my favourite episode or even one of my favourites but I'd gladly watch it again if I got the chance. But like Fiery Joker said in his own review, there's no way of coming up with an objective opinion on this episode. If you were never a fan of memes or background ponies or headcanons to come out of the fandom, this episode isn't gonna do anything to sway you. But if you're a hardcore fan who eats up anything MLP-related, chances are you'll find something to like.
But whether you like or hate Slice of Life, you gotta admit it is very impressive that a show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic reached 100 episodes. :)

Legit though, maybe it's because I work as a hotel housekeeper, so I have to deal with the aftermath of the insanity that are weddings, but the entire idea of weddings has faded on me. Spend all that time, money, resources, and effort on what? A single day and a dress you'll wear all of once, then never wear again? Nah, I'll skip on the wedding and use the money saved to take family and friends on a nice, non-wedding dinner.

Fun fact to add to the fight for Shinning Armor and Cadence (not sure if I spelled that right) Disney has actually kind of rectified their issue of getting married after only meeting once or twice in their new book series A Twisted Tale, it adds more character development to the main and side characters in a sort of alternate universe style. True MLP’s princess couple needs development but there is only so much story board writers can do for the audience while keeping it child friendly.

Uh no. Big Jim himself said they are canonically nothing more than friends. Lyrabon is a dead ship. It has nothing left keeping it alive. As a conservative myself, I find Lyrabon incredibly stupid (though, to be fair, I find ALL SHIPPING stupid), so by extension you just insulted me yourself by portraying it as if conservatives are a bad bunch of people.
