I'm at the beginning of the video where you say you haven't read a scifi book with witches, you definitely need to check out Wild Seed by Octavia Butler!!! Incredible book, one of my all time favorites and my favorite by her. I can't recommend it enough 😊
For non-fiction, I'd recommend Ashes & Stones by Allyson Shaw. I'm currently rereading The Witching Hour by Anne Rice & I would recommend her Mayfair Witches series 🖤
@JeansThoughts You can absolutely start here - there's an eventual overlap with her vampire chronicles but the original Mayfair trilogy is its own thing. She does delve into some taboo subjects at times - so maybe check up on that if you have any particular triggers. Her sense of place & atmosphere is fantastic though.
Love the video, thanks for the recommendations! I must recommend the book series of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It is one of my favourite book series of all times. (I also love your top btw)
Aaaaah RUclips is so annoying when it does this. I've had it happen to people I follow too. Especially if they don't post for a week or two then come back. I'm so glad you found this video and enjoyed it though!!!
I'm an avid gardener as well as a reader. Those Kew books are beautiful. I have a keen interest in folklore too so those are right up my alley. I'm currently reading the witchy novel "Weyward" by Emilia Hart and I'm really enjoying it so far.
Great recommendations! I have a lovely middle grade fiction novel to recommend: The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. It's a well-crafted fairytale revolving around old magic and the witches who practice it.
Loved this video and your recommendations! Would love to know your thoughts on Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches trilogy. Also, could you make a video of your favorite witch movies / tv shows? I just watched The Love Witch last night and would love to hear your thoughts on it as well!
The Burnings is another historical fiction based on the north Berwick witch trials and it was incredible! Intrigued by the Kings witches as I’m in a right witch book reading phase. Which light by Susan Fletcher is also amazing!
Thank you so much for that range of books, they were so many to add to my wish list, especially the Taschen one looks so fascinating. For now I've downloaded the Ruin of all witches as an audiobook and am really looking forward to listening to it.
Just found your chanel, so happy you said you love Julliet Marilier books!! I love her books, I've read them all! She never gets mentioned when people talk about fantasy, I don't understand why, she's great!
Ooh yay I love witchy books!! You might've mentioned these in other videos previously, but if you haven't read these I think you might like them: When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey, Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson, The Factory Witches of Lowell by C. S. Malerich, Lilla the Accidental Witch by Eleanor Crewes, and the Witches of Brooklyn series by Sophie Escabasse 🥰
I’m about to finish Lolly Willowes based on your recommendation and I’m enjoying it. I kinda wish there was a bigger proportion of witchy stuff though. I’ve also devoured both Emily Wilde books also based on your recommendation and I’m looking forward to the third.
Great recommendations! Some books that have themes of witchcraft I've read and loved are : The Familiars by Stacey Halls, Slewfoot by Brom, Witch Child by Celia Rees, The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell and The Hedgewitch of Fox Hall by Anna Bright
A timely video for me as I have been inspired to get some Witch fiction in th least few days. In fact I started A discovery of Witches yesterday and am loving it! Proof that you are never to mature to look at something new! After i read this series then on to your recommendations 💖
thank you so much for this range of books! I'm slowly getting back into reading and really appreciate your book related content. also love the podcast. x
I recommend Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth. A series of 5 books (fantasy). History of the world is that witches left Scotland through a portal back when they were being persecuted and settled on this world to live safely. Of course, it is now a long time later, and witches are persecuted (and outlawed) again thanks to who is currently in power. This doesn’t explain what the series is about, just gives background.
@@JeansThoughtsit’s about a field hockey team near Salem, Massachusetts in the 1980s who uses witchcraft to win games 😅 it’s super funny and also a little dark!
Some "classic" nonfiction wiccan/pagan/goddesss books: Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshipers and Other Pagans in America by Margot Adler; Witches by Erica Jong (coffee table book); anything by ecofeminist and Wiccan activist Starhawk, including The Spiral Dance, Truth or Dare, Twelve Wild Swans, The Earth Path, among others, and her two novels, The Fifth Sacred Thing and the sequel City of Refuge (which I haven't read the latter). Oh, and not really Wiccan per se: Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Women Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
I think this is my sign to finally check out Lolly Willowes 👀🙏 One excellent historical witch book is Regrettably, I am About to Cause Trouble by Amie McNee.
I just read Lolly Willows last month, I’d never heard of it before but I loved it! I could so run off and live in a cottage in the forest and wander through nature for the rest of my life 😁 Arthur Millers The Crucible is in my top 5 books of all time. I wasn’t sure what it was really about when I picked it up but it was just amazing and scary (because it was based on real happenings at the Salem witch trials) and I could see how lies escalate and how people jump on the band wagon especially in certain political parties in modern times. So scary to think how easy it is to persuade the masses without any factual evidence.
If anyone was looking for a Science Fiction witch book I'd say The Witches of Chiswick by Robert Rankin. Time travel, steam punk Victorian age and meddling women capable of magic. Plenty of sci-fi tropes and magic melding together.
The only books of SF that come immediately to mind featuring witchcraft are The Warlock In Spite of Himself series, by Christopher Stasheff. Also featuring a robot horse! - but a bit dated in atitudes to women, so don't consider this an especially strong recommendation...
I must admit I'm quite fussy when it comes to witch books, despite loving witch stories, but you've reminded me I need to read Kissing the Witch! The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow is one of my all-time favourites, and I'd also recommend The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland. I also really enjoyed The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe, though I'm not sure I'd still love it as much if I read it now. Oh and I have to mention another all-time favourite: Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, which is set in Mexico City in the 1980s and follows three teenagers who discover how to cast spells with their vinyl records.

Ooh I've never read any Anne Rice but I understand she's prolific. Maybe this is the place I should start with!?

This video was amazing. Books about witches are my fav and it made me realise RUclips has not been showing me any of your videos recently!

A person can only be a witch if they weigh the same as a duck.
Aaah Monty Python coming out with all the wisdom aha.
Only super models then..

I LOVE Witch Hat Atelier! I’m not usually a big manga reader, but this series is one I’ll buy as soon as a new volume comes out.
Will definitely by checking some of these out. Especially some Nom-Fiction Recs

100%. She is so amazing. Everyone else is missing out aha.
Great video, my cart was bursting at the seams by the end. I'd have to add "Circe" by Madeline Miller and Foxfire by Sharon Blackie

“All the Birds in the Sky” by Charlie Jane Anders is a book with a sci-fi plot which also features a witch! 🖤
And also animal harm. TW.

Sangu Mandanna's The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is ❤❤❤

This makes me so happy!!!
I was going to write that Gideon the Ninth is kind of a sci-fi witch book, but then remembered they are all necromancers there 🙈
I mean, I feel like it still kinda counts? 😂
