    Small tip for people. The AI will fire their weapons based on the weapon groups you set, if you set each weapon to it's own individual group, they will fire more often. Just something people figured out.

    • @JGComments
      @JGComments 3 года назад +8

      Yes, important! They will always fire whatever is available until they cap out on heat without overheating, so keep that in mind. So for example, if you have a PPC and pulse lasers and both are in range, they will fire the pulse lasers until heat capped and almost never fire the PPC. So it's good to be heat neutral or close to it, or have a low heat weapon they can use while recovering. They will also close to whatever distance is required to use an available weapon.

    • @noppornwongrassamee8941
      @noppornwongrassamee8941 3 года назад +1

      Hmm. What about setting a weapon group to chain fire? Like on a Battlemaster or something where you have a whole bunch of Medium Lasers, more than is practical to put each one in its own group. Does the AI recognize that a group set to chainfire will only fire one weapon at a time?

      Also I have found they want to fire all weapons so if you have short range, mid and long range weapons the ai will try to move to the ranges to use all weapons. I found it best to make sure that all weapons are about the same range. On that note, ai are God's with plc boats.

      @Maxim Levesque Yes each game experimented at least from when I started the series back with 3, that experimentation is what led to the disappoinment that was 6 but you can fanboy over souls likes all you want no one said you couldn't like them, also the souls genre are barely RPGs it's not even like your stats matter just go strength and get the weapon that hits the hardest. AC offers way more customization and is a mech series with anime stylization which is something that I would prefer to play over the slow plodding roll and wait gameplay of the souls genre.

    My introduction to MechWarrior was number 2 in the series. Still think the Jade Falcon intro scene is one of the greatest cinematics ever made, from the fantastic music to the overzealous commentary from the lady. Overall the game had amazing OST, and the best part was that it was just playing straight from the CD so you could just put it in your stereo systems if you wanted to have a listen.

    I know this is an old video now, but I'm puzzled why they have enemies spawning all the time. You would think there would be a set number of enemies on a map, maybe a dropship or two adds more, but at some point you finish them all off. It's frustrating to find yourself running around taking expensive losses from endless waves trying to break that one last window before your demolition mission is over.

    • @yakojjy
      @yakojjy 2 года назад +2

      Yeah. The spawning is by far the worst thing about the game. Totally breaks it. Just uninstalled for the 4th time and it's sad because I really tried to like this game. I really fucking tried. The difficulty curve is so absurd sometimes, and other times just meaningless. Constant waves of enemies spawning in right on top of you wouldn't be so bad if your scanners weren't complete trash. Like omg a tree blocked 10% of the enemy mech, now you will lose your targeting lock and LRMs will miss. Midgame the enemies become vicious. Constantly getting hammered with PPCs and AC Tanks before they even show up on your radar. Shuttle after shuttle dropping 3-4 Top Tier Enemy Mechs before you even finished the last 3.
      It's just stupid. Tried to save it with some mods. Removing tonnage limit makes things a little easier. It has some fun moments, it is at heart a Mech Warrior Game, but it's become such a drag. Just isn't fun reloading missions half a dozen times trying to get lucky with spawns, or because your radar is so shitty you walk into 4 enemy mechs and start getting hammered. Really makes me miss MW4 and MW3 Story Campaigns. Much more Linear and RPG-like. Have about 50 hours into it and I think I'm done for good.

    I should probably get in your Discord one of these days, whether it's to squad up for some Warframe or to join your merc adventures in MW5. I've seen a few folks (a prominent example would be Tex and friends from the Black Pants Legion, some of the greatest members of the Battletech/Mechwarrior community, with their recent stream of the game) playing the coop mode of the game, and honestly, it looks like a blast to literally start up a merc company with your buddies and play together as part of said company. Since progress isn't native to each player, but rather tied to the campaign and company of the host (which I originally thought was a bad thing), you get to feel far more immersed in the setting, and more like a lance of pilots working together off one payroll.
    The difference between human allies and the AI is a huge one and makes the whole experience feel so much more alive with them instead of bots. ...Not that I'd know firsthand, as I also don't have any friends who play. But even watching it, I can tell the difference. It's the same thing between having a bunch of bots in L4D instead of those characters being your friends, except this time the characters are giant 100 ton war machines that seem predisposed to flattening the buildings you've been contracted to protect.

    As a stompy robot game for people who have no idea what Mechwarrior/battletech is, MW5 is pretty decent at what it does. It has a decent amount of content, the mechs look cool, the controls are super crisp. But honestly it still feels kind of... soul-less?
    Compared to previous games, specifically Mechwarrior 4 mercs... it's kind of a mechwarrior game only in appearance. The pre-made missions are okay at best, and the randomly generated missions leave a lot to be desired. And I say that having a pretty hefty mod-list. I can't imagine playing pure vanilla at all, it's almost unplayable. The updates have been good, but honestly all the DLC's feel like they should be major game/content updates. Like Deep Rock Galactic recently had a major "Season 2" update that is completely free (with cosmetic only DLC) that adds more content and new missions and other updates. It's really just disappointing how vapid MW5 is. Honestly I feel like I'm just playing it because i've played MW3 and MW4 to death, and really the only BTech games i have yet to play/finish are Mech Commander, and the earlier MW2/MW1 games.

    Waited for the GoG version since it came out same time as Steam. I was totally into the Lore of Battletech back in the early 90's, could spend hours in a bookstore in the mall reading through the sourcebooks they put out. Wished I could have played the tabletop but wasn't really anyone around who also knew what battletech was and wasn't any gaming shops carrying that kind of stuff anywhere near me. Still, Battletech was my first gaming love, have had lots more since then but you always remember your first. I know she deserves more attention but still, I'm just happy she's doing so much better these days than when she was with Wizkids...Dark Ages indeed.

    My friend and I finally picked up this game this past weekend and played it 3 days straight. As he mentioned at one point, it would be ultimate to have an MMO version of this game which would make the Clan invasion event truly exciting. During my time in the Navy, a shipmate showed me the tabletop Battletech and I've been hooked since. Computers will still very limited around 1990 but I did get to play what was probably the first Mechwarrior game on the Apple II. It was very pixelated, resembling 8 bit, hell the ppc wasn't even lightning. It was a sparkle that *slowly* made its way to the target. It was still a fun game for the time.

      There is an MMO version its called Mechwarrior Online also made by the same company. I get what you are saying though. Maybe a game that gathers player feedback and everyones campaign alters somewat due to this even if you dont face players. I dunno if you played it but MechAssault 2 for the OG Xbox the first one. It had a massive galaxy map for multiplayer where players did missions, pushed the territories and much else. Its conquest mode as it was called pitted houses against eachother for controll of various world. It was fun.

    Never played the game when it was first released. My start was in like 2021/22, and I really enjoyed it for the most part even without any DLC. It's cool to hear someone's perspective of it who's been playing from the beginning though, especially what you said about the mechbay, damn that sounds like a fuckin' right chore!
    Also, the shoddy spawn locations earlier on, which I've heard someone else mention. Tell you what I'd love them to add to the game, the ability to choose where to be dropped off and collected, especially if it's an air drop like you see enemies doing. And being able to tell your lance or one of your lance to go to a specific spot on the map. It'd open up so much more variety and options for tactics.

      I think the DLC adds functionality to the Career mode which is separate from the Story campaign. I don't think it's changed. Might as well snag it now versus later imo. Edit: If you're going to buy the game via Steam and don't want the DLC running it's super easy to disable DLC from the Library tab if you'd rather wait to play the DLC content later. If you right click on MW 5 and click properties, DLC is at the bottom of the options, just uncheck the DLC and it'll be disabled.

    Mechkrieger (pen&paper RPG) was my first one. Took it to boarding school with me and we wasted sooo many hours of supposed study time by playing my very first RPG game.
    I didn't have Battletech, the actual boardgame yet for the mech combat since my young brain just couldn't fathom that the RPG could be sold incomplete and as a spin-off of the tabletop game.
    I was a classic newbie game-master. Dark and shady bar in a dark and shady backstreet of some random Kurita planet since I knew fuck-all about the lore.
    Why Kurita? I was what? 12? So yeah, their logo was the reason. Cringe like that.
    A year later I stumbled over Battletech and it escalated from there. We made sooo many custom mechs with ridiculous over the top setups.
    I remember building a 100 ton spider mech. Like actual 4 legged mech with tons and tons of weapons and as much armor as the game would physically allow me.
    It was one-shot by a lucky LRM-salvo hitting the head exclusively by my best buddy in the first round of combat.
    I am still salty about that salvo. Yeah I am looking at you Roman.
    That was almost 30 years ago.
    Good times.

    I bought MW5 on Epic at launch, played through it, and never touched it again. The base game had a few real flaws, so I was really thinking about whether I should spend money on it again to buy the DLC. But your review actually makes me consider buying the DLC.
    I've been a Mechwarrior / Battletech fan for ages, starting ~1989 with the tabletop, the book series, the Cresend Hawks PC games, Mechwarrior 1 & 3 & 4, Mechcommander 1 & 2, Mechwarrior Online, ... I also crowdfunded the Battletech game from HBR.
    I also think that the franchise deserves by far more public acclaim. The universe is really well developed (until maybe the civil war between Davion and Steiner - the Jihad and everything after that I found mäh), it contains wonderful stories and exciting twists. In fact, I hope MW5 is a success so that more Battletech relatet games come out in the future.

    There are a few minor issues.
    1) You don't always get the opportunity to recover a downed mech, even when you took the time to headshot it. I wish there was a mod to make potential recovery reliable.
    2) There are missions, like raids, that DO allow recovery of downed mechs and supply caches that really SHOULDN'T. The enemies still hold that location in force. How is the stuff recovered?
    But it is a great game and a worthy addition/improvement to the franchise.
    It is missing a few things from MW4 mercs, though. Like larger maps/complex missions. But they could be added in with an update or mod.

    Likewise, I do not understand why salvage is the way it is. A mech in perfect condition missing its cockpit should be EASIER to be salvaged than a mech that went critical and only has an arm remaining.
