Yoyoka doesn't overplay! Exactly what the song requires. So musically mature for her age! I am not surprised by her anymore, I just assume she can play anything! 😊
Really enjoyed this one. it's like what we used to call progressive jazz in the late 70's with bands like Return to Forever. I could hear an entire album of this stuff. but may be with some other instruments sprinkled in. maybe taking turns soloing. this rocked.
I have seen an early video when they practise together - they seem to have an exceptional creative bond - and it is great to see them preserve it in a piece. They form the solid foundation for the group
The famous Sonor yellow snare makes an appearance! What a groove! Ken gets to really shine backed up by the Atomic Clock of Rock! I mean Jazz! A sweet little tune!
Really cool sound!! EDIT - a few hours later - That bass is so musical without being all flashy - &, of course, the interplay with Yoyoka sets such a cool rhythmic bed underneath! i want to like it a million times! 👍❤🇯🇵 😊
Mamo878, if you haven't already, go check out her other stuff on RUclips. She covers some incredibly difficult songs and usually does better than original artist. She's no joke. 🎶
This was really cool and funky. This is all conjecture, but.... I have to believe YOYOKA is giving Ken a new found inspiration, maybe opening up his style a bit, not familiar enough with his complete discography to know for sure. But also, you can tell YOYOKA owns the drumming in this particular video. It has her signature all over it. So I'm also assuming Ken has maybe written the basic song and his part, and is maybe giving YOYOKA the freedom to "do her thing" with the drums within the context of what he has written. Very kind, thoughtful and respectful of Ken. YOYOKA has earned the right to be given that freedom, but that doesn't mean everyone would give it to her. Thanks for that KEN! And in the true Japanese style of music, each person has their time to shine a bit. They make a great team, the same as with the other members of Ken Okada's Group. Have to assume every one is having a ton of fun doing all these tracks for the various albums. Great work both of you, as well as the other members not present in this particular song!. I get the feeling Ken has written a lot of songs that he's never published, maybe waiting for the right drummer to come along, and boy has she come along! Thanks EVERYONE!
I had to listen to this three times before I liked it. It’s just that the bass really clobbers you in the beginning and then the drums dominate and not until the end of the song is there a coming together of the two, but I think that is the whole point of the song, Once I listened from that point of view it became beautiful.
That was a NICE funky piece with a groovy swing to it. To change gears a bit, the Soma family has been exposed to a lot of music, both past and present. There are a few bands/ songs that they may still be unaware of, even though they have experienced many, including adding their own original music to the list. If I could recommend just one performance that should be at the top of list, it would be Freebird, by Lynyrd Skynyrd, performed live in Oakland (1977). ruclips.net/video/QxIWDmmqZzY/видео.html
I disagree that snare is too loud. It sits within the rest of drums nicely. The levels of all the drums could come down in relation to the bass. This session seems overdriven overall (at least on the tracks release so far) and it was not caught. That is the danger of straight through, single take sessions. It almost seems like it is live to two track. They should release a live album from the San Jose Jazz Break Room show.
I thought the same thing on this song and one or two others. I refrained from commenting because i have no musical experience and have no idea if that sort of thing is changed during final mixing etc...but as a casual listener it sometimes seems to be too much in the front of the overall sound and becomes a little distracting.
@@Rob-Yule I have watched it many times. It would be great see it released as an album. They would have to work out a deal with the San Jose Jazz Break Room. While we have all these great live performances especially from Japanese performers, it seems that live albums are not released anymore. Sure I can record the audio from RUclips so I can play it in the car, but I would rather just pay the artist to do it.
That smile at the end says it all, they nailed it. Great job by both.

Agree 100%.
Indeed, and I believe that this is its greatest strength.
Same 👌🏻
This slaps hard, would love to hear a bunch more like this.
Agree 100% - in every song!

👍 Sophus-Tikada! 💕
I'm convinced that one day people will be talking about, and trying to emulate a groove called the Yoyoka Shuffle
OOOOH I just noticed it's just Ken and YOYOKA - extra excited for this!
hence , double trouble.
Wow !
That's a really good one. I always admire, when two instruments play unisono, change, and play unisono again. PERFECT execution. I love it.
Yoyoka conjuring an Art Blakey roll on that snare early on and we're off to the races--lots of fun watching this and the smile at the end, priceless.
I am digging the trend!
Bravo! YOYOKA and Ken Okada are redefining "cool and groovy." Couple world class musicians showing how it's done.
I've been following Yoyoka for 4 years and damn, girl! This track with Ken is amazing, of course. You go kiddo!
The kid's got game!
I have seen an early video when they practise together - they seem to have an exceptional creative bond - and it is great to see them preserve it in a piece. They form the solid foundation for the group
Pocket and groove. Nothing but pocket and groove 👍🏻
2 professional musicians in perfection!
The definition of cool: Ken and YOYOKA!!!
Fantastic collaboration

Just want to add this some of the most inventive drumming recorded by Yoyoka!
Double Trouble the duo that’s awesomely good.
Once again impatience overcomes me.
u rock , !!!❤
😱🤙👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Lovely.
There is something fascinating about Yoyoka and it is the level of adaptation with any group or style of music that is truly remarkable.
Drum'n'Bass, jazz style, loving those bass chords!
🎶🥳🎶 When I listen to Yoyoka, so do my neighbors!
(Weather they want to or not!)
LOL - same here! My neighbor upstairs has pinged me a couple of times!
Great 😊
My brain is drawn to the thought of Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon playing jazz…
The good kind of trouble
Both have a strong connection and good rapport
実に新鮮だ! とにかくカッコイイ
Cool Jazz.
Really cool sound!!

Yoyoka! Play more jazz, fusion & funk please.
Really really nice.
AAAAAWWWWW YEAH!!!
What skill, mad skills🤘🏻✌🏽🤘🏽😎
Top Notch
Hey, that drummer is pretty good!

Dude, _we_ know.
That's what the 'wink' means.
C'mon man, get it together already. ha
What a fantastic showcase for two amazing talents🥁🎸
groovy prof , and ken magic.
You are one of the best natural talents in the world, my friend! So proud of you, Yoyoka!
Kool stuff....😎
Awesome 🔥
Amazing!
ありがとうございます!
ありがとうございます!!
I heard about 12 songs in there😂🎉❤
Alrighty then.... Time to wait....
Výborný Yoyoka 👍🥁👏
This is sublime. She's smiling, she knows it. Are we really sure her middle name is not Tony?
Viejo funki...Bravo😊

なんか跳ねるとswingの中間みたいな感じがGood!( ◜◡^)←BIRTHDAY-ℳama🍰
デュオですか!
すごい緊迫感
That's awesome. Really ,really cool.. listen..... you always the right to blend in a distant mic.. foe depth.. like Jimmy page. Don't let them say no

@@Rob-Yule Thank you sir!
Nice LTE vibes.

Very different from the original by Fire Saga. 😉
This is getting ridiculous
The editing makes it difficult to watch.
I don't disagree - I just listen!
The snare is far too LOUD and stiffly played for this to be enjoyable listening.
There is also distortion at 0:47 and 1:42, for example.

Loud and distortion inherits in music genetics.
It’s subjective, like or dislike to individual taste!
@@dannelson6980 There is a live session from San Jose Jazz Break Room - yes that would be a great live album.
