Indie game devs always think they're going to have "I see only darkness before me"-quality dialogue right off the bat, while ignoring the twelve years of "Yes? Yes. Yes milord" it takes to get there
fucking gold.
then again the flipside of that is that then you get uh
DIFFERENT writing quality
You gotta remember this is from 1994. Having any voice acting at all was pretty revolutionary
Yes finally, I hate especially how in some stories they rush title introductions thinking it would sound cool, but in reality it's just cringey.
Oh and btw even tho ur an atheist God still loves u.
This is not an indie game

Late 90s and early 2000s were the golden age of Blizzard. Diablo 2, Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft. Been all downhill since they merged with Activision. Same with Bioware/EA. Such a shame.
@@anthonyluna352 the fact they killed warcraft 3 with the reforged abomination says all you need to know about how the operate now.
The "Welcome to the world of Warcraft" hits so different right now.
It’s where the phrase “World of Warcraft” originated.
Ahhh, the good ol' days when the orcs where monolithic hellspawned evil brutes.
more "yes my lord" than your brain has room for.
You end up feeling like a true king after so many of those, it's good brainwashing

I remember playing this game at my mom's house with speakers instead of headphones for some reason, therefore, she could overhear what was going on. Eventually after hearing it a bunch of times, she finally exclaimed "No!" Fun times. Then she said "What's with all the 'yes's?" I honestly had no reply to that.
my mother mocks me by repeating grunts lines from time to time, specially from orcs, even if more than 15 years passed from the last time I played lol
Lol 😅😆😆
That is precious.
LOL
At work we used to always "not enough mana" when we didn't feel like doing stuff.
this was the age of the RTS; C&C, C&C red alert, warcraft II, KKDN, dark reign, total annihilation, starcraft, red alert 2, C&C tiberian dawn
Tiberian Sun, Warhammer. Lots of good memories there
Dune2 was the dawn. mhm better.. The Dawn
age of empires, civilization, age of mythology, Empire Earth, stronghold
Rise & Fall
Shame there were no achievements, loot boxes, season passes and digital pre-order bonuses back then, would've really enhanced the experience

man the 4 character selection limit was so brutal in this
Wasn’t this also one of the firsts (or maybe even THE first) to allow multiple units selection on the other hand?
@@fulviopontarollo2952 well beside Dune 2 i dont know any other RTS before warcraft. Maybe command and conqure but not sure about it
incorrect it's an enhanced version because I remember selecting one by one each unit and be hugely enthousiast with warcraft 2 nine selection unit!
@@roflol100 Hmm i remember having to send my units one by one into combat in Dune 2. First game i remember with multiple unit selection was C&C 1
@@Daniel-rd6st yea in dune2 it was 1 by 1, in warceaft 1 was 4 unit select i remember because i would group 4 water elementals for attacks. But i think that c&c come after warcraft 1 so yea warcraft 1 was first to introduce group select
This was as close as we got to a warcraft city builder with the road building option.

@@5434345 Ah yes, the deamons. I still have nightmares about my first encounter with their kind. Imagine my horror when a fireball from a catapult hit it straight on the back but did not seem to affect it (one of these would decimate 9 archers); and it still proceeded to 1 hit wack 2 of my knights and went on to kill off everything I had at the base except a pair of archer
About 8 archers do the trick and kill the deamon before it reaches. Better keep something to deal with catapults though. Those are scary. First encounter was devastating, then I learned to scout ahead.

Oh the goosebumps the second I heard "Yes" "yes milord"
I played this on my dads computer in the days of dos, couldn't even boot the computer up but when dad left it on oh yeah. This gem👆 Doom, heretic, some giant wizard game, commander keen, wacky races its all flooding back.
I'm 33 now it must have been over a couple decades ago now, I reckon 23 odd years at a guess.
I used to love playing as orcs, the unfamiliar buildings ect let my imagination run wild. Like they knew something the humans didn't 🙄 can't explain it well but it was a 7 year olds mind can you blame me?
The wonder was great though.
Amazing run! So far the best Warcraft 1 player on youtube!
Holy shit you are so good at this game. I'm getting stomped by the cpu and you clear the stages flawlessly.
After watching this I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve been playing it wrong 😂.
Yes
Just build walls of ranged, move them up, use a sacrificial unit to kite stuff into your wall of ranged.
@@sarissanhunter7227 And literally just spam water elementals for late game.
Warcraft 2 improved on this game in every way imaginable. I actually started with WC2, so I don't have nostalgia for this game...I've never put more than 10 or 20 minutes into this game. The in-game menu, unit movement, etc...they're all just so primitive. I can go back and play WC2 and STILL have a great time. So many hours spent in a room with 6 PC's all networked together playing this game with and against friends. If we weren't play this then we were playing Doom 2 or Magic the Gathering (the actual card game) and then Diablo 1 soon after. Those were the last of my high school and early college years. After that it was on to the N64 with Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Super Smash Bros, etc...and then everyone drifted apart... :(
Life is a big stupid jerk whose face is dumb and looks like a butt.
lack of roads and walls though, they were such an architectural element in WC1. I largely didn't get into WC2 because of that. it looked all so scattered to me.
You can play this one in the same style as the sequel now.
@@Eye_Exist quite. Absolutely. I couldn't get into it due to the fact that the characters were insane amidst insanity.
There being a lack of dungeons in the game & such not lost on me either. 👣
I love the beta tester section at the end. In the early 90s beta testers for a video game must have been an OG thing.
You play this game beautifully, awesome!
I remember the "STOP POKING MEEEEE!!!" if you clicked on a orc too many times.
The road system is interesting. Looks like a precursor to creep and blight to discourage proxy building.
This was one of my first games, i remember playing it on my first pc, a 486dx2 over 20 years ago
Enjoyable run. Good job!
*Sees the mass of elementals laying waste to Blackrock Spire.*
Ah, these must be the Tides of Darkness.
I find it more challenging to play the Level without summoning any Water Elementals at all
The best way to play is to set up lines of archers. That way you dont have to use the clunky controls. Also their rate of fire is ridiculous and they never miss
They have some powerful repeater crossbows
Bunch of Archers lined up, use a Knight to pull their armies, and GG EZ.
Just gotta watch out for unexpected catapults, cause those things could kill 4-5 units per shot.
thanks for bringing back. I was like 6 or 7 when this game came out lol. YES YES, YES MY LORD!
- So, son, do you like Warcraft?
- YES, MY LORD.
And here we see the first ever raid into the Deadmines :P
I remember playing this with my dad as a kid, but we were both woefully untrained in strategy games, especially with the 4 unit select cap. I remember it being way harder and i don't think we ever discovered how broken summons were.
Water Elementals hurl water at buildings, setting them on fire.
Seems legit. :)
It's magic.
Making buildings out of potassium seemed like a good idea at the time.
When I played this game as a kid I never knew you could group command your units, so I would just tell all my units what to do one at a time
Yea it's so unintuitive you have to press a key to "enable" the group control of a big group of... 4 xD Rts was way different back then
Warcraft has aged so much nobody would play it again. But Warcraft II though, it's still playable and created so many standards of the genre.
" A group of horde are ganking lowbies at Northshire Abbey for self esteem as they are hardstuck at 1200 in arena, you must go and destroy these treacherous noobs at once"

@@Fenrize my favorite was “Your will, sire?” so much flavor there
Fun fact: You can kill Medivh right from the starting point by placing an archer I think where the footman is located at 47:13, using far seeing and a lot of healing 🙂
I always do that. Makes the map super easy.
Excellent video
Much easier way to deal with Mission 8: At the start zone, use the archers to scout to the upper right bend of the chamber, then have one of the clerics cast Far Seeing just outside of that vision range. Medivh will be revealed and immediately cast a summon. However, because his magic has not fully charged, he doesn't summon a daemon, instead summoning a spider. It is also possible to line up all the archers in the far right of the chamber and attack Medivh from there. Just heal the archers quickly, pulling them back when the clerics run out of magic, and eventually, Medivh will die. He has a lot of HP, the same range as the archers, high rate of fire and does slightly more than your fully upgraded archers, so he can kill them in around 4-6 hits, but if done carefully, he can be taken out without losing an archer. After that, just kill off the rest of the beasts normally, and not worry about Medivh or his final daemon summon at the end of the long raid in the tower.
Crazy how I remember discovering this game at the time, loving it then seeing the first articles about Warcraft II, then even better the first intro animation of Warcraft II waw it was gonna be so cool.... then playing it for a few years. Time flies, now so many stuffs has happened in Azeroth
i dont know why this appear on my recommendation but yes thank you so much!
Holy shit!
You can build ROADS! What is this sorcery?!
In this game, you HAD to build roads in order to construct buildings, the later games do away with this mechanic.

I never played this back in the day but recently I found my first PC, a 486DX-50, and decided to restore it and play some of the games I didnt back then. I sailed trough levels one and two but this third one broke my balls, LOL. Certainly clunky when compared to even just slightly more modern games, like C&C, but very charming.
This hit the nostalgia-spot hard, might actually give in and purchase a digital version of it.
:)))) Stu's unique signatures: killing his own ppl, selling command centers :) Other than that, he is an awesome gamer!
Wow this brings back memories. So crazy lol I remember playing this when I was like 8

I beat this n the orc campaign recently with help from this vid props to you. Also elementals op lmao
Damn it's nice to see a proper, normal playthrough of this game!!! So many bad players in youtube!!!
In 30+ years I have never forgotten how absolutely broken water elementals were. Blizzard got us back in round two with death nights and blood lust
thanks.... I loved this game. got it as a hs ggrad present for myself
the memories of this game are unmatched 😭
Fun fact: in the original CD/Floppy versions of the game, the Human campaign was impossible to beat without cheat codes. Somewhere around mission 6, a task requiring you to free your peasants first in order to build an army, would initiate an all-out attack from the Orc stronghold, that you had no chance of defeating.
Back at this time the only way to get patch versions of games was to:
A) have an internet connection, and in 1994 & 1995 that was a not a common thing, likely less than 5-8% of USA households.
B) Know what a 'patch' was, that it even existed, where to go to get it, and the what, why & how to install it! 🤣
Suffice it to say that if you were a kid playing this game without help from a grown-up who knew about the internet, you were never going to beat the Human campaign without cheat codes, using the original version.
The Humans never even stood a chance. 😈
Yep, when I got the battle chest for Christmas 96 my dad's friend told us to not even bother with War1 be cause of the glitch
I actually started playing this myself just yesterday. Having to specifically command either Move or Attack takes getting used to, especially after C&C's "do whatever's relevant" left mouse click.
Also I was not expecting the gold mines to literally collapse once they were spent! Thought I was under attack.
i remember when i was a child, this game system requirements is too high to play in my father's computer, and compromises fast movements because of lags and No Audio Outputs, miss the old days :'(
I always saw water elementals as blue smiling faces
I always saw water elemental as killing machine..
In this part of the lore the orcs were the victors. They killed King Llane and sacked Stormwind Keep.
Any remaining forces then fled across the great sea to Lordaeron where The Alliance would be formed.

Hey Stu, hast du schon mal die Mac-Version von dem Spiel getestet? Die Grafik sieht deutlich besser aus, zwar nicht ganz wie WC2, aber dennoch 640x480 statt 320x200(mehr kann WC1 nicht).

Great, I've never played WC1, but its sounds good. I was stoned by WC2
Its always a bit of a shock on how difficult it is to micro units in these games compared to modern RTS. The upside is the AI can't cheat to win.

Playing Warcraft 1 makes you realise why summons were practically absent in 2 and why dispell worked on them in 3

haha those summons are hilariously broken xD
also, good job saving those peasants!
I had no idea elementals are so strong! They're basically the Archons of WAR1, except you get them for free!
I started with WC3 and boy this feels so damn old. They really improved so much in their sequels.
When i played it I already noticed de grand summon imbalance. There was a very difficult quest in Human campaign that I won after some hours summoning spiders/scorpions (i dont remember) and later Blizzard released a patch to lower the difficulty.
