Great looking car, congratulations on the find. The triple gauge pod is original equipment. From left to right, the gauges are oil temperature, oil pressure, and battery voltage. The temperature in the upper instrument cluster is coolant temperature.
Yes those three dials are standard on the GT. Looks like you've got a good one. Just noticed yours doesn't have a sunroof - and that's a good thing because no sunroof means no leaks and no rot in the base of the A pillar. This looks like a keeper. 👍
Mega project! Looks like a fairly straightforward one :) I had one of these years ago (bought for £250!), auto but a 5 pot and was a great car really....
@@Resto.Nation my last words are usually "why the f*&k did I buy this!?" :) Looks a tidy motor, I am looking forward to seeing some more updates on it... !
I had one of these around 1995, it had Webber carbs with a single large oval filter that roared. I also had a mk2 scirocco and looking at the Audi it now looks like a larger scirocco 😂
I had a GT5s when I was 19 The only car I wish I never sold in white 1982 Y plate I have dreams about that car to this day as if it is outside my house and I am 48 now. I have done checks and it seems not to be around now miss it so much the Reg was NAE 530Y.
@@tommysmith4088 they have got more expensive along with everything else in the market. I will be selling this when it’s done. I’m in 2 minds as to how far to go with it. Drop me an email if you want and we can maybe sort something
I used to own one of these in metallic black. Totally regretted selling it. Watch out for blocked sunroof drains which can cause rust around base of A-pillar- which was main issue I had. Windscreen out job to repair properly. Engines are tough, torquey and sound superb.
Thinking about your rattling tappets / lifters? I run mine on 97 or 99 RON petrol. If I use the cheap stuff it sounds like a bag of nails!!😂 Might be worth a test gallon to see if it helps.
Thanks, I always run premium 99. After that Initial tapping cleared it ran lovely. I think it was just because it had been sat for 6 months previously…
I’m currently trying to get my 87 coupe gt back on the road, not nearly as good as this one but mine has been in the family since new. Im excited to get to the stage you’re on, but its a long way off after being outside uncovered for 20 years… Even so theres a touch of rust here and there but nothing too bad, i believe they were galvanised from the factory? (Anyone correct me if i’m wrong) Good luck! Very cool in white!

Great to see another one being saved. Definitely going to watch the progress of this one!!

Cheers mate. Must be why it’s so rust free. I’m looking forward to the mot! Currently restoring the headlights as we speak…
@TK42138 - Your comment is 100% spot on. Sunroofs on 80s cars for the most part = A pillar rot + Sunroof panel rust.
It looks like a start of a very interesting series. Way to go James!
Cheers 👍🏻

Nice find and Pembrokeshire registration.

Cheers mate. Where do the drains terminate? I’m assuming they go from the sunroof tray down the a pillars and pop out in the wheel arches?
In the Center Console its Oil Temp and the orther one is Water.
Thankyou

Hi, very cool!
I never knew they were galvanised, nice one.
Good luck with your Resto!
They are partly galvanised, fully from 1986 on.

Bottom temp sensor is for the engine oil..
