According to Aaron Ehasz, Zuko was supposed to join them in Crossroads of Destiny but he felt Zuko wasn't ready, which I'm glad they did that because then we wouldn't have gotten what happened with his father during the invasion on the Day of Black Sun. I like to think that in the few moments before shooting Aang with lightning, Azula looked around the room, noticed everyone completely entranced by Aang in the Avatar state and thought “so nobody else is going to seize this opportunity? Okay, I’ll do it.”
I LOVE the detail of Iroh drinking tea right before he breathes fire. And it makes total sense in universe, the tea would naturally up his body heat, and as fire bending comes from the breath it would give him a little boost in power. It's also just gratifying to see his love for tea played a part in his bending. Another thing I love is during the battle between Zuko and Katara, Zuko hasn't forgotten Iroh's lesson of learning from the other types of benders to better his own firebending. He perfectly mimics what Katara is doing with the water, using his fire as a fluid weapon instead of a projectile to further his reach from that distance which we don't see done often with fire.
Zuko not joining them here is probably the best decision they made for any story line in the series.
People are always so disappointed and some even say that it sucked... but ultimately, I think (and I believe that nearly all would agree) that the story is much better for it.
How could his journey be complete if he hadn't gotten what he thought he wanted before making a decision? He needed to face it and come to a conclusion... not just turn good after one good decision and a bad night of sleep.
I think that this crucial way of telling his story is what is a big part of its excellence. It could easily have been "just good".
Its also more realistic because typically people om the fence but then offered a very good seeming offer in the ild position are really likely to go back even with all the negatives. Its only when the negatives add up again, the straw that breaks the camels back, and real change happens.

I remember how awful it was to wait between season 2 and 3. The cliffhanger was intense!
This is my favorite episode. So much happens in the span of 20 minutes, from Aang dying, azula taking control of the earth kingdom, to Zuko choosing his destiny and iroh solidifying his. Season 3 is great, but I don’t think we reached an emotional climax of this height again. Still love season 3 though, excited for the reaction.
Love the costume, definitely fitting to go all out for the Book 2 finale! Regarding Long Feng, this is the last episode of the series we get to see Long Feng, so yeah, he is done. He never recovers from Azula brutally roasting him, and because of Long Feng's manipulation, this contributed to Kuei becoming an active and strong monarch in the comics. The backstory for the Crystal Catacombs is that Ba Sing Se used to be a small underground settlement and as the earthbenders excavated further, they discovered the crystals and began to mine and export them, gaining immense riches as their trade expanded.
And something to note about this episode's details: The way Katara holds Aang after he is struck down by Azula's lightning references La Pieta, a famous sculpture by Michelangelo in Vatican City of Mary holding Jesus after crucifixion, which emphasizes the parallel between Aang's fatal injury and revival with the story of Christianity. And the Dai Li agent stopped to face when she was talking to them, is the same one questioned by the Gaang, symbolizing that she knew ahead of the time that the specific agent was a problem. Also symbolizing Zuko in a way because the agent had a scar.
I was Kataang from Day 1. I didn’t even know Zutara was a thing until I joined online fandoms years later.

That flash of his arrow when Katara used the special water to heal him was 100% his spirit returning to his body. That scene always hits me like a tractor trailer
I also have a soft spot for Jin/Zuko--she ruffled his hair and lived. That has to count for something.
And a soft spot for Ty Lee/Zuko--she's bubbly and happy and Zuko's a grumpy grouch.

Zutara shipper hands down but am perfectly content with original pairings as well. I just always felt that Zuko and Katara balanced each other well and made a good pair. But friendship is also wonderful

Personally, while I don't actually "ship" them, I have a massive soft-spot for Zuko-Toph Arranged Marriage plotlines, mostly because the idea of Toph throwing a tantrum and Zuko wanting to throw a tantrum makes me laugh.
Toph is my favorite character, love her and her personality. Great job on bringing her to life in the animated series, looking forward to seeing future work you do.

I didn't find a canonical ship to really sail with until I read the prequel novels. Which are amazing. I'm not a Zutara shipper either, though. From the original show, I ship Mai and Ty Lee. I like Korrasami, but they're kinda just there for me. The novels are truly where it's at. 😊❤

Does anyone remember watching this when it aired, getting left on this cliffhanger and being made to wait an eternity for Book 3 to come out
When this first aired, i was like 10 or so and i was sent into a full spiral of confusion, panic, and depression lol. I wasn’t really used to a low note cliff hanger at that stage of my life and i cried my eyes out to the point where i missed when Katara brought Aang back 😂 i was fully under the impression that he was just dead 😭
I think the key to udnerstanding Zuko's line "I have changed" is that while he may do the same things he used to he does them for very diffrent reasons. Early on he is convinced of the righteousness of the firenation, after his metamophosis he undestands the war is evil, but he sees the best path forward to be as the crown prince of the fire nation.
Definitely love the fact that you went full Toph transformation. You are awesome ❤️
The moment I knew Zuko fighting with Azula wasn't a ploy was when Katara had Asula trapped in her water tentacles and Zuko broke her free.

The thing I like about ships is how canons sink them.
Can we discuss for a moment how Katara had Azula on the ropes? She was dueling Azula and winning.
This was peak Azula too when she's at her most cunning, devious, and in control of a situation where everything was in her favor.
Katara was still winning the fight and would have had Zuko not interfered.
I am not necessarily a Zuko and Katara shipper, but I have never really been convinced that Aang and Katara was the right way to go. And I would say Zuko and Katara makes at least a little bit more sense to me.
This was by far one of if not THE best season finale of any show! MAS...TER...PIECE! MASTERPIECE! *chef's kiss* (Keep in mind I said SEASON finale, not SERIES finale) That being said...ARRGH!!! I love Zuko but his betrayal makes me so mad! I mean I get why it had to happen and I don't fully blame him but damn! It's just heartbreaking seeing him betray Iroh and also seeing him go from sympathizing with Katara to then trying to kill her! The more I watch this, the more justified I feel Katara is when she's the last of the group to later trust him.

For 13 years this episode was the point in which I stopped watching the show - not intentionally, though. When Book 3 was airing in 2007 I’d see the season promoted on Nick, but somehow I kept missing every airing and rerun of the episodes past this one. For me, there was no Aang with firebending or hair, no story conclusions, no Melon Lord… Until 2020, when I was able to watch the entire show from start to finish. Finally viewing Book 3 after so long was both weird and satisfying. It was like eating a cake you baked a decade ago that somehow hadn’t expired yet.

Full Toph cosplay is excellent. You should do it all the time! And I don't ship zuko and Katara in animated form, but I do in the Netflix adaption, and I ship Aang and Toph for the Netflix live action as well. Masters of opposite elements coming together would be cool!

Poor Aang got shocked in his back and got him bleed and cut on a circle hole right before the final book 3, very powerful and sad til he heals! Hope he’ll get better soon for book 3 and be back strong!
I’ve kind of liked Ty Lee and Sokka together. I’ve always thought it was funny how she would flirt with him when watching the show as a kid.

Okay, the voice actor for Toph Beifong ends up cosplaying as her as well. That’s like… meta cosplaying? I don’t know if there’s a word for it, but it feels like some sort of step-up from ordinary cosplaying. 😮
My rambling aside, you look absolutely amazing Michaela! I know I commented on a previous video that to say it was fitting when you wore Toph’s headband would be an understatement, but this is a whole new level. 😊
I always loved the battle in the Book 2 finale. It took me a while to realize it, but this whole season gave me serious Empire Strikes Back energy. In that the antagonists ultimately win and the heroes are left beaten but alive by the end of it.
And to answer your question, I always shipped Kataang. Though the Zutara shippers can just watch American Dragon: Jake Long to ultimately get their wish (Zuko and Katara’s VA’s are on the show).
Love your regular every day clothes you have on, they’re done so well. Love your character too girl, you did an amazing job! I just finished watching a reaction to ATLA with someone on YT, and she mentioned that she watches you too :) I think AniMelon? She’s adorable too and loves the world as much as we all do now too! Can’t wait for season 3!

Honestly when it comes to shipping characters i’d kinda like to see Sokka and Ty Lee as a couple, they are definitely vibing well together.
Don’t get me wrong, Sokka and Suki are a match made in heaven so I wouldn’t want to change that, but in an alternate universe I wonder what would become of Sokka and Ty Lee, they would definitely be very cute together!

It's true with Azula doubling crossing Long Feng in the Book 2 finale but during the series finale of book 3 Azula went extremely crazy and was concerned the Dai Li would double cross her, well what if the Dai Li were gonna double cross her cause in the second to last episode and final episode in Book 2 a Dai Li Agent said that the Dai Li still remain loyal to Long Feng like he was saying no matter what they're still loyal to him, and another one told about the way how Azula was cooperating to Long Feng and had a thinking look in his eyes after the conversation, what if Long Feng secretly told the Dai Li agents he wanted to let Azula take the city and control of the Dai Li and then the agents would double cross her sometime between in and after the series finale, I mean a very similar worked for Bumi when he took back his city (also Azula said in the 1 hour Book 2 Finale "whoever controls the Dai Li controls Ba Sing Se" as she saw ho the earth king ruled the city so she thought the king controlled the Dai Li I mean how else would she be aggravated that the Dai Li dragged her to Long Feng in the middle of the night it's like as soon as the agents grabbed her she found out Long Feng still controlled the Dai Li), but since Azula went extremely crazy there was really no reason anymore and probably went back to free Long Feng after being banished
Well, I have no friends on Instagram. So someone else will just have to enjoy those goodies. But for the record, I'd be an airbender.

i'm a bit late to the party but 4 things:
#1 - As much as I think Mai is a mood - I have to say that I think Ty-Lee would have been a more interesting choice to be a love interest for Zuko. He's so intense and I think her lighter disposition would be a great balance for him, although I understand how his character might see her as superficial. (doesn't he actually say that to her in the Beach episode?)
#2 - I ship Iroh and the Ba-Sing-Se gate lady who said "you're not too bad yourself handsome" 😂
#3 - Your Toph cosplay is sooo good
#4 - the MUSIC in this episode really shines. Like from the moment Aang's transformation into the Avatar State gets interrupted by Azula's lightening - and onward - the music is just....chef's kiss.

5:30 A lot of people online have been saying that Netflix Azula doesn't look like she's up to the task ever since the trailer was dropped.
What most of us sometimes forget is that Azula canonly is only 14 years old. Grey Deslisle put on such a great performance that made us perceive her as a more terrifying and older take-charge kind of villain. As a kid, I never realized that she was a teenager in the story.
Elizabeth Yu for the Netflix live-action actually does look more like a 14 year old and yes, does have, imo, a lot to live up to since she got the role of Azula... but I have no doubts she's done a great job especially since it seems like the entire Netflix cast brought their A-game and also has had huge positivity promoting the series online. We should show her and the cast lots of love for working on the live-action instead of criticizing.

Always loving to hear your thoughts at the end of each ep too, and I think you really pinpointed the complicated emotions Zuko must be feeling at this point.
That said..... I do rather ship Zuko with Toph, actually, based on their personalities and relationship dynamics, and it's an absolute crying SHAME that she didn't get a life-changing roadtrip with him ;w;
